Another article-packed Friday finally comes to a close with our weekly look at a trio of overlooked options for the Gameweek ahead. With one of last week’s three, Jose Enrique, racking up an 18 point Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul, our new protagonists have a lot to live up to…

Stephane Sessegnon

A total of 161 points in the previous campaign earned the Sunderland midfielder a starting price of 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) but it’s fair to say he’s yet to vindicate his hefty cost. Sessegnon’s attacking potential saw him rack up seven goals and 12 assists last season, meaning he played a part in 45% of his side’s league goals, but Steven Fletcher’s arrival has seen the former Wolves man take up the mantle of talisman instead.

Prior to last week’s trip to Fulham, Sessegnon had failed to find the net but a spectacular strike at the Cottage, in addition to a run of four home games in the next four, has brought him back onto the radar. Ahead of his side’s crucial run of games, Martin O’Neill has revealed an upturn in self-belief could be all the midfielder needs to reignite his under-par campaign:

“Sometimes we have had to wait some time to see that type of form. His goals don’t have to be spectacular but he should score more for the ability he possesses. There was frustration about his game because he got himself into some great positions. You would not believe he would be suffering any sort confidence because his training has been very very good. He is getting sharper which is important. He should be able to score double figures with his ability and something he should be putting into this thought process.”

There’s no doubt the Sessegnon is a real punt for those considering his acquisition but if he can maintain his level of performance from last weekend, there’s clearly potential for points. Now down to 7.3 in FPL, he is priced at 7.7 in the Sky Sports game and, with an ownership of around 1% in both games, he could prove a real differential for those who fancy a real flutter over the next few Gameweeks.

Nicky Shorey

Having managed just a single clean sheet all season, Reading’s defensive resilience is not much of a selling point for Fantasy managers. Shorey, however, more than makes up for his side’s inability to keep out opponents – over the last few weeks, he has even rivalled Leighton Baines in terms of creativity from the back, with an assist against Everton last Saturday long overdue.

The 2-1 triumph over the Toffees earned Brian McDermott’s side their first win of the season and will boost confidence ahead of a run of games which pits them against four of the bottom six in the next four, double Gameweek 16 inclusive. With a substantial share of corner kicks also boosting his appeal, Shorey’s constant supply from left-back could well harvest more points hauls if the Reading frontmen can convert even a fraction of the opportunities provided.

A cut-price cost of 4.1 in FPL and 4.0 in the Sky Sports game, with 1.3% and 0.7% ownership respectively, he’s one to mull over for those Fantasy managers seeking a way to free up budget at the back for pricier acquisitions further up the field.

Jack Wilshere

It’s not just Arsenal’s trip to Villa tomorrow that looks appetising; a strong upcoming schedule could well prove profitable for Arsene Wenger’s troops. With that in mind, we turn our attentions to their fit-again midfielder after he continued his impressive return from injury by notching the opener in the 2-0 Champions League win over Montpellier.

Granted, Wilshere’s deep-lying role in the doubt-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta means he’s unlikely to match the potential of Santi Cazorla, but could possibly mirror the Spaniard for value if he carries his eye for goal onto the domestic stage. While Theo Walcott and Gervinho may vie for the right flank role, Wilshere now seems to be an automatic first XI pick again and could be an intriguing mid-price midfield punt over the next few. Priced at 6.4 in FPL and 6.0 in the Sky Sports game, with an ownership of around 1% in both games, he’s a relatively budget-friendly alternative to Cazorla’s 9.4 and Walcott’s 8.7 FPL price tags.

Still on the fence about who start between berba and sterling....

berba is missing a lot of creative players around him (kacanalkic + ruiz)
and he is up against a mean stoke defense that concedes very little, especially at home.

As much as I Love Berba, he tends to score against weak defences - I would hardly say that of Stoke, Stoke lack a little pace in defence but that is hardly Berba's strength - however with creative players out Berba will get more ball....if he does not he may sulk - i am playing Sterling

Who to get in for Berba this week?

    a) Giroud (avl, eve, SWA, WBA)
    b) Fletcher (WBA, QPR, nor, REA/CHE)
    c) Keep Berba (sto, che, TOT, NEW)

Fletcher has the fixtures and an extra game, Giroud is in the better team and offers more threat.

I'm thinking of ditching for the next 4, and then potentially bringing him back afterwards. Will probably lose 0.2-0.3m on the trade, but I think Fletcher will comfortably outscore him over the next 4 GWs, so it's worth a punt imo.

I dont trust him honestly and I have never had a plan to get him in my team so far this year. Even at his peak at Spurs, he couldnt score >15 goals. Now he's 31 and at Fulham.

Yeah, I think if you're going to take a punt on SUN attack it has to be this week for their decent little run of games. He gets a lot of stick, but he's the 5th highest scoring striker in the game.

Fletcher also has the highest conversion rate which history shows is not sustainable in the long run. I think he's at 60% right now. Not saying not to get him but that there are risks involved.

Yeah, his stats (other than conversion) aren't great, but then the same could be said about P Cisse last season, and he did great. Didn't realise Fletcher has already got 15 BPs this season, i.e. the same as RVP and more than Suarez)!

It's a risk, but with SUN looking a little better going forward of late, and with their fixtures and the DGW, I think it's worthwhile.

Giroud has hit form lately, but not so good away, Fletcher does score goals and the double game week - its tough, I just loaded up with Arse players as their run looks easy, just find Giroud unpredictable - keep in mind Walcott's contract negotiations are ongoing and he demands to play central - with the busy xmass period, he may get that chance against the poor teams

Everton have a horror run after this week - I just ditched Baines this week - even at the odd number point - If i had to choose one of those I would go Fletcher - personally I would grab Sanga for Baines (assuming his thigh holds up) then bank the money and see what happens with the concentrated game weeks and injuries...anyone injured this week will struggle to get through the busy week...so wait one week - banines may play well against Norwich

Okay DZ.....debate time Berba > Fletcher yes or no.

Berba is class but how often do you have an opportunity to bring in a player that has 5 fixtures in for weeks and 4 of those fixtures are @ home.

    Reasons FOR transfer;

    1. 5 Games in 4 weeks,,,,4 of them @ home
    2. Fletcher in on 70% of sunderlands goals 6G 1 A
    3. Sunderland looking like they are turning the corner attacking wise
    4. Ruiz/Kaca/Richardson out for FUL.....berba deeper?
    5. Fixture difficulty favors Fletcher.. WBA/QPR/nor/CHE/RDG vs sto/che/TOT/NEW
    6. Surely Fletch to recive heavy investment leading up to DGW (make money)
    7. If not planning to captain either until DGW16 so what is really the risk?
    8. Fletch gives an good (C) alternative for the Mancester Derby week.

    Reasons AGAINST transfer,

    1. Berbatov is class
    2. SUN have not shown much by means of attack....last weeks out burst vs FUL 10 men
    3. Paid only 7.0 for Berbatov now 7.6 might be tough to get him back if Fletcher fails.
    4. Berba can score on the road (3 of 5 are away)
    5. Berba on Penos
    6. Berbatov gives hope to us smokers
    7. Berbatov is class.......I could keep using this one.

Team linked....FYI already brought in Sterling for Kaca....have another FT this week.

      Other reasons AGAINST transfer

      8. Berb is the man and we all like him
      9. He offers assist potential as well as goal threat
      10. Sideways transfer
      11. A waste of 2 transfers if you want to buy him back
      12. Fletcher is set for regression as he has an unsustainable strike rate.

not really if Fletcher suceeds then he will recieve heavy investment over the next few weeks (especially for DGW) and could be priced close to berba by then

Battling with this decision - play Cameron or Berbatov? Confused!

    Pros:
    Stoke are tight at home
If they keep a CS, i get double points (have Bego)

    Cons:
If Fulham score, i lose my CS (and Berba may be involved)

    Begovic - Foster*
    Baines - Ivanovic - Cuellar - Demel - Gorkss
    Bale - Fellaini* - Michu - Nolan - Sterling
    RVP - Tevez - Berbatov

    Options:

    1. Foster to Mignolet
    2. Demel to Garrido
    3. Ivanovic to someone (but who?)
    3. Bale to Cazorla
    4. Nolan to someone (but who?)
    5. Two of above (but which two?)
    6. None of above (and lose transfer)

Foster to Mignolet sounds good with 4 home fixtures in 5.
Demel also seems to find it difficult to get a starting spot so you might want to do a sideways move to another West Ham def

Nah, WH fixtures are not looking good. Want to move out of WH all together for the next 5 or 6

      I'd be stuck with Nolan.

Ivanovic might disappear from Chelsea since Benitez will probably will prefer Azpillicueta over Ivo.

Finally caved in and did Demel > Cuellar. No point in having a liability like Demel for this quick run of fixtures. Also felt a little dirty not having a Sunderland player in my team after I sold Fletcher 😀

So my team now looks like this for today:

    Begovic
    Cuellar Rafael Baines
    Cazorla Mata Nolan Sterling
    RVP(c) Ba(vc) Berbatov

    Subs: Gorkss Garrido Fellaini

    Bring it on! 😀

I like your team. I believe that Mata could improve even more with Benitez. If thats the case, bye bye Haz for me .

Oh and we have the same strikers.

I would play Garrido over RVP, his name is too cool to put on the bench

Yep, has averaged 8.7 PPG over the last three compared to RVPs 5

I'm kinda hoping Demel starts this week as he is my only bench option. Wishful thinking no doubt

OK, so since that transfer came first, presumably you see Fletcher as a worse option than both Berbatov and Ba
