[sbu_large_image] The Stock Check

A bitterly disappointing goalless stalemate brings Saturday’s events to a whimpering close and leaves us hoping for a Sunday blowout. Here’s the somewhat limited Stock Check on this evening’s “action”…

On the Up

Kieran Gibbs
Back fit and in the frame, Arsene Wenger restored the left-back to his back four and decided to omit Thomas Vermaelen. While this casts some doubt over Wenger’s first choice central defensive pairing, Gibbs looks assured of starts at left-back when fit.

The Villa Defence
It was only their third clean sheet of the season but a determined showing will have encouraged Paul Lambert. With Reading, QPR and Stoke in the next three, there could be some low-to-mid price potential on offer, with Brad Guzan in goal and Ciaran Clark perhaps short-term punts. The injury to Ron Vlaar, which saw him withdrawn just after half-time, will be a concern, though.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Having fetched double figures against Spurs, Cazorla’s impact was again reduced by the abject performances of those around him. Without Theo Walcott, the Gunners again appeared to lack pace and penetration and for all Olivier Giroud’s neat touches, he failed to present a significant threat to the Villa defence.

Bacary Sagna
Somewhat surprisingly rested to the bench, the rotation with Carl Jenkinson could be a concern from this point on. With the Gunners progressing in the Champions League, tonight’s teamsheet would indicate that Wenger will look to give Jenkinson numerous opportunities at Sagna’s expense – another boost for Gibbs as the weapon of choice in the Gunners back four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

You were going on about this earlier slagging off Sunderland...but the performance against Fulham showed how Fletcher and Sessegnon are good players up top. And they got attacking returns again today...so what has changed? We learnt they are once again a threat...now pipe down.

Not rubbing it in or anything but I'm at a pretty good rank right now and I've got there without having a expensive big name midfield. Been without Mata since GW 3 and had Cazorla in for really shitty point scores. Haven't had Bale or Hazard either.

So I dont know, maybe some people need to take a step back and realise that you don't need to flood your team with expensive players to do well. Just a perspective to take into account.

    Cuellar - Cameron - Clyne - Demel - S. Taylor
    Nolan - Michu - Sterling - Mata - Fellaini
    RVP - Jelavic - Tevez
    4.5m in the bank

I'm looking at Clark from a defensive point of view for the next 3 games. And I know what you mean, but I think they need to play 5 in midfield, and Long is there permanently. So Long would be preferred, especially whilst he keeps scoring.

I would say Garrido, following the logic set out by most Baines fanboys (i.e. that clean sheets are so rare this season that attacking returns are equally, if not a little more important than defensive returns and Garrido gets a fair few of then)

Rooney looked so dangerous when he switched with RVP. I'd like to see him used as an plain striker again, with RVP deeper. Fellaini has proved that tenacity and aerial bullying can go a long way in the penalty box. Rooney is still United's best player, they need to clone him.

I gave up on Rooney this week for RVP (fail). I hate watching him when he drops as deep as he does. You don't get many FPL points for running around a lot and tracking back. It's too much stress watching United without RVP.

Have 2 FT so was thinking

    Baines - Huth
    Ben Arfa - Silva

    Rest of team is
    Begovic
    Rafael, Mertesacker, Simpson, Clyne, Baines
Nolan, Routledge, Cazorla, Fellaini, Ben Arfa
    Suarez, RVP, Berba

This the best, have 2ft and 0.0 in the bank.

Despite another horrendous looking week so far, I'm actually considering exactly the same team for midweek:

    bego
    baines cuellar rafa
    sterling walcott mata ramirez
    rvp(c) ba jelly

is that such a bad team?

    Evening Fellas

Was it just me or did Rooney look a bit more up for it today than RvP?

and sidenote: this was not a good week to take an 8 point hit 🙁

Right, after a very (un)productive 20 minutes tinker I have come up with this solution.

    Mignolet, JussiJ.
    Baines, Rafael, Cameron, Clyne, Davies.
    Mata, Bale, Fellaini, Michu, Maloney.
    RVP, Ba, Berbatov.

    2FT, £0.4m in the bank.

    Baines, Michu & Ba ➡ B.Jones, Walcott & Tevez for -4.

Obviously I'll wait until Walcott news first but...
