A bitterly disappointing goalless stalemate brings Saturday’s events to a whimpering close and leaves us hoping for a Sunday blowout. Here’s the somewhat limited Stock Check on this evening’s “action”…

On the Up

Kieran Gibbs
Back fit and in the frame, Arsene Wenger restored the left-back to his back four and decided to omit Thomas Vermaelen. While this casts some doubt over Wenger’s first choice central defensive pairing, Gibbs looks assured of starts at left-back when fit.

The Villa Defence
It was only their third clean sheet of the season but a determined showing will have encouraged Paul Lambert. With Reading, QPR and Stoke in the next three, there could be some low-to-mid price potential on offer, with Brad Guzan in goal and Ciaran Clark perhaps short-term punts. The injury to Ron Vlaar, which saw him withdrawn just after half-time, will be a concern, though.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Having fetched double figures against Spurs, Cazorla’s impact was again reduced by the abject performances of those around him. Without Theo Walcott, the Gunners again appeared to lack pace and penetration and for all Olivier Giroud’s neat touches, he failed to present a significant threat to the Villa defence.

Bacary Sagna
Somewhat surprisingly rested to the bench, the rotation with Carl Jenkinson could be a concern from this point on. With the Gunners progressing in the Champions League, tonight’s teamsheet would indicate that Wenger will look to give Jenkinson numerous opportunities at Sagna’s expense – another boost for Gibbs as the weapon of choice in the Gunners back four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's really is messing the game up him being this expensive. If he was 1m cheaper then it'd be happy days. It's hard to justify owning him all season if he's not going to be the focal of the attack always and goes on these blank runs.

West Brom. This season's Newcastle 11/12 or will they be a flash in the pan who falls off very quickly?

I really like their squad, versatile and consistent rather than reliant on one main player. Mulumbu is class as well.

Fantasy wise - best options Ridgewell and Morrison? Lukaku is a fantasy beast waiting to happen but until he starts on the regs he's just not an option.

They play like Mourinho's Chelsea. I can't see them falling off as Clarke seems to know what he's doing. They bounced back from 2 unlucky/late defeats to Man City and Newcastle by winning 4 on the trot and they don't have European games to worry about.

Really difficult to gauge. Really difficult. It was a little alarming how they conceded the two cheap goals today, but maybe Foster will re-steady the ship.

Ridgewell and that's it for me. There's too many variables and a spread of points to get an attacker imho.

    Another transfer idea:
    Baines, McAnuff -> Gibbs, Sess

    Yay or nay?

If you sell Baines, Berbs or RVP you will regret it big time...... the more the merrier as they are all season keepers. Carry on... 😎

I'd rather have Tevez than berbs for a season keeper personally

Baines is only a season keeper because that's the only way of benefiting from him...by playing him every game and hoping he strikes gold once in a while.

RVP is too expensive for a player who will blank three times in a row against easy opposition.

      Berba...well just no.

RVP, Berbs definitely staying for me. Starting to lean towards keeping Baines.

you've spoken sense all season (and before) and I completely agree. This season's all about keeping faith in the tried and tested.

Rotation worries me next week. Can players like Mata, RVP, Ba and Bale really play both games? 😐

A wait to confirm Sunderlands starting XI and wack the armband on Sess/Fletcher might not be a bad idea.

this is why I'm holding off on Aguero, 3 games in 5 days of he starts tomorrow. RvP had a rest midweek, he will be ok.

Saving my FT and having 2 for GW15 seems the best way IMO

Ba yes. Who else do Newcastle have?

Same with Bale. Cant see AVB resting/dropping him.

Other two I am worried about.

I think it refers to the giroud substitution. I think giroud got a knock which is why he was replaced

QPR are top the fixture ticker. The Arry effect will be worth monitoring over the next couple.
