A couple of midfield protagonists are set to sit on the sidelines after accruing their fifth booking of the season last weekend. Paul Scholes and Mark Noble will both miss out as West Ham travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with the latter’s absence particularly sore for his side, given he has started every league game so far for the Hammers.

The tightrope welcomes two new contenders after the weekend’s round of matches. Cheick Tiote may have been injured for much of the season but his penchant for picking up yellows remains unquenched – the Ivorian’s caution at St Mary’s yesterday take his tally to four yellows in all competitions ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Stoke on Wednesday. Wigan’s James McArthur fell foul of the ref in his side’s 3-2 win over Reading on Saturday and now balances precariously as the Latics prepare to welcome City to the DW.

Luis Suarez and Michu continue to avoid that fifth yellow which would earn them an automatic ban. With three strong home games in the next five, Suarez looks primed for significant Fantasy attention once again; his owners will be crossing their fingers he stays out of the ref’s notebook against Spurs on Wednesday, bearing in mind he then plays host to Southampton at the weekend.

Those players on four yellows have until New Year until the five-card amnesty kicks in. Basically, if they can avoid another booking in this calendar year, they will then be exempt from the customary one-match ban and receive no more than a warning regarding their future conduct. The limit then moves to 10 yellows, which would earn the guilty party a two-match ban. Most culpable so far are Ahmed El Ahmadi, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel, who lead the way on six yellow cards apiece.

Having served out a one-match ban in Everton’s draw with Norwich, Marouane Fellaini is available for selection as the Toffees host Arsenal, while Fabricio Coloccini will be welcomed back by Alan Pardew as injury-hit Newcastle make their way to Stoke.

Brede Hangeland and Emmanuel Adebayor are both set to skip the second match of their respective three-game bans this midweek.

i also believe he will be fielded alongside Tevez could be a great diferential Kostja... and 8,2 is the exact amount i have but i also got Tevez already 😉

indeed it is but i need a striker for more than 1 week punt to rearange my defense as well over the coming weeks... so i believe i'll wait for tomorrows team sheets in order to see if Daren Bent doesn't come into contention since he was already fit this GW and might push into the starting 11, and for city cover i'll hope that Tevez gets me the points... thanks for your advices Kostja

@Berbilly, just read your excellent summary of the Soton mids. It really is tough to choose. Ramirez's positioning as second striker/in the hole is making me eager to get him. But like you said...there isn't much difference in an attacking sense between them all. They are all equally involved and Puncheon represents a bargain but is less nailed on. Lallana being captain also means he'll start every game.

I'm really struggling here to decide.

The way I saw it was Ramirez was camped in the box a lot and the reason he got that assist and goal was he was always in the right place when something was played in or bouncing around. He benefited from being a poacher essentially and he even poaches more than Lambert!

This is going to be a tough decision...

Cheers. I think if I was buying now I would get on the Gaston Martin. His goal was purely a poachers effort from him being in the right spot at the right time. I think Lallana is as good a pick until Ramirez is playing 90mins week in week out.

The Gaston Martin 😆 A double pun too!

Ramirez did play the 90 against Swansea and I don't think Adkins took him off early because he was injured last game but just because the game was won and he'd tried hard all game. Do you think it's a real issue him not playing the 90?

He said he's not quite used to the PL yet, but given time he'll be able to. I'm thinking along the lines of Lallana –> Sess for the DGW and then Sess –> Ramirez after the blank.

Ramirez for me too - he has the ability to explode for big points. I watched him in the Olympics a lot too and he was Uruguay's best player by a mile.

Yeah the explosion element is a significant factor. He looks like he poaches enough to be on the end of lots of things. It's still very hard to rule out Puncheon and Lallana

Maybe Nani and Valencia's replacements play better and therefore aid RVP in getting more points, understand now?

TBH the replacements would be Young and Powell most likely, not sure if that is an improvement. The main point is that RVP drifts wide when there is less width (Valencia is as wide as you can get) so that might hurt RVP's scores. Though not necessarily United's scores.

Not on the face of it, but Anderson starting might well make more difference than you think. Having watched the game, Anderson is much more useful in midfield right now than either of the slow and immobile Scholes and Fletcher.

Definitely, but that won't benefit RVP who will be drifting out wide. His best scores have come when he's played as the target man with Rooney behind.

That's right - 4-4-Rooney-RVP has worked best for RVP returns so far. When there's less width (Valencia out) RVP compensates by drifting wide. Even so he'll be in the box as much as out of it. He had 5 chances against QPR and three were good ones IMO. Rooney had 3.

Definitely, Clev and Ando would be good shuttlers with plenty of energy and Clev has been used that way in the diamond already.

Why didn't Clev play against QPR though? He wasn't injured was he? His energy would have been better too.

Yeah, I can see Anderson through ball, RVP one touch, then boom. Feels like there's more movement when Anderson is on the field, not just in the midfield but overall.

Ba to Fletcher worth it for a hit?
Got 8.9m to spend replacing Ba, or should I just ride the price drop and hope he delivers?

I am also doing Pienaar to Ramirez. I think he has potential for bigger returns than Lallana.

Looking for a bit of a refresh with 2 FTs and 3-weeks of average returns on the bounce:

    Bego Foster
    Baines Sagna Cuellar Wisdom Nelsen
    Mata Cazorla Michu Pienaar Sterling
    RVP Ba Berbs

Pienaar definitely out today; Gaston Ramirez, Puncheon? Foster maybe to Mihill or Ruddy (if injury not too bad). Ba out for _____?

    Most pressing need?

Gone for Baines & Nolan > Sess & Clark. Feel bad dumping two absolute stalwarts but I've left some money to play with and wanted a change, without doing anything stupid in the RVP department.

That said, Sess as captain is now awfully tempting.

Wasn't a great match all around. Everton had more chances to score though - especially Baines. He should have had two-goals in that match but Ruddy was superb.

Enough for me to hang on to Baines for the time being - there are goals to come from him.

ya he was very unlucky, if they had kept a clean sheet I think he was nailed on for BP. His PPI was 15, that was with no clean sheet and a draw, a 1-0 win would have meant he had PPI of 20+ and 8 points would see people talking him up.

His mazy run in the 2nd half was superb, I'm keeping him for that reason alone!!!

    Crouchies Monday moan,
The Chelsea Fans. What a spoilt and brainless bunch they are. To turn up at a game against a rival for the Championship, and make it their mission to abuse their manager, wishing him to fail than their club to succeed is appalling. What I find most irritating, and cowardly, is the fact that not one of the banners had Roman Out on it. He fired RDM, and employed Rafa, that is in a logical world where fans would vent their outrage. However that will not happen, not because of any love for Roman, but for fear of losing his unlimited cash. Shame on you.

My last question for the day:

Over the next four gameweeks, Will Fletcher or Suarez score more points? Take into account that Suarez will almost certainly miss a game at some point, so you're potentially looking at 5 games to 3.

    Fletcher: QPR, nor, CHE-REA, ManU
    Suarez: tot, SOT, whu, AVL

      I would say neither.

QPR are on the up, Norwich at home is very tough, so basically Reading and 2 pts to start v a now tough defensive Chelsea squad.

Your other option is Mr. Red-Card-Waiting-to-Happen.

I kind of fancy Shane Long.
