A couple of midfield protagonists are set to sit on the sidelines after accruing their fifth booking of the season last weekend. Paul Scholes and Mark Noble will both miss out as West Ham travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, with the latter’s absence particularly sore for his side, given he has started every league game so far for the Hammers.

The tightrope welcomes two new contenders after the weekend’s round of matches. Cheick Tiote may have been injured for much of the season but his penchant for picking up yellows remains unquenched – the Ivorian’s caution at St Mary’s yesterday take his tally to four yellows in all competitions ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Stoke on Wednesday. Wigan’s James McArthur fell foul of the ref in his side’s 3-2 win over Reading on Saturday and now balances precariously as the Latics prepare to welcome City to the DW.

Luis Suarez and Michu continue to avoid that fifth yellow which would earn them an automatic ban. With three strong home games in the next five, Suarez looks primed for significant Fantasy attention once again; his owners will be crossing their fingers he stays out of the ref’s notebook against Spurs on Wednesday, bearing in mind he then plays host to Southampton at the weekend.

Those players on four yellows have until New Year until the five-card amnesty kicks in. Basically, if they can avoid another booking in this calendar year, they will then be exempt from the customary one-match ban and receive no more than a warning regarding their future conduct. The limit then moves to 10 yellows, which would earn the guilty party a two-match ban. Most culpable so far are Ahmed El Ahmadi, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel, who lead the way on six yellow cards apiece.

Having served out a one-match ban in Everton’s draw with Norwich, Marouane Fellaini is available for selection as the Toffees host Arsenal, while Fabricio Coloccini will be welcomed back by Alan Pardew as injury-hit Newcastle make their way to Stoke.

Brede Hangeland and Emmanuel Adebayor are both set to skip the second match of their respective three-game bans this midweek.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

RVP & Ba > Aguero & Suarez. This would work but the fear of not owning RVP is stopping me.

    Bego, Jussi
    Wisdom, Davies, Caulker, Rafa, ShawX
    Hazard, Cazorla, Michu, Fellaini, Maloney
    RVP, Tevez, Berbs

2 FT’s and 1m in the bank, how do the following look:
    Maloney > Sterling
    Berbs > Fletcher

One of the strongest arguments that persuaded me to get RVP was the captaincy argument. I'm finding that to be a double edged sword this week - I don't think he will do very much against West Ham but I don't dare captain anyone else :perplexed:

RVP is not good value at such a high price unless you are going to captain him most weeks. However I didn't get him as id often be too scared to give him C due to rotation

I know his ownership is high but there will be a lot of people ahead of you in the rankings that don't have him. Its not like last season where a big RVP score could send you plummeting if you didn't captain him.

I'd go Defoe as adebayor still suspended and he just scored two. However if you did him as vc then he'll still come on for rvp if required. Rvp will only come on as sub if utd are chasing which is unlikely and if they are then it'll be rvp needing goals against a tired defence.

RVP no goals and 1 assist in his last 3 and has "A" form in the watchlist?

Anyway, I don't want to be accused of stirring or whatever but has there been any talk of matches being postponed with the weather? I work pretty close to Stadium of Light where their match vs Reading was postponed earlier in the season. It's been raining for over 24 hours and there's quite a few road closures. With the deadline so close to kickoff, all I'm saying is that if I were bringing a Sunderland player in this week, I'd be waiting as long as possible.

Any love for Jermain Defoe here? Do we REALLY think he is a rotation risk still? I think he's a slight risk for the odd rest but that can be said of almost every forward, but I accept that he is at bigger risk than some of the early substitution.

Upsides for me are that AVB clearly likes him, that he's in a good team, in some kind of form and not too pricey at 7.8m.

    Anyone?

I really would like JD in my team especially if Spurs pick up form- looked really good against WHU and Dembele is coming back. I just can't make room for him in my team with Suarez Tevez and Berbs.

I think Berbs is the best mid-price option around for the long term. Very close between him and JD but due to Berbs being completely rotation proof he edges it.

real answer is wait until after liverpool at least. i don't think defoe is in the class or form where you need him right now. can always get a stop gap like fletcher for 14,15,16 then get defoe if he still appeals in 17

        Hmmmmm.

I just kind of think that I need a replacement for Demba Ba this week, and Fletcher doesn't appeal to me. I think Sunderland are rubbish and that he's been lucky to score this well this far. Oh, and I don't think their fixtures are as good as the ticker makes them out to be either.

regarding fletcher i think a good way of looking at him may be in the next 4 matches(3gw for him) if he scores just one goal he should get 12 points. i think that's a decent and realistic minimum target with 3 blanks, no assists and no bps. same as say 4,4,4. i kind of want to buy him myself now, with the same guy, ba, the culprit

By then, want to do same policy with Arsenal considering their kind December programme. I admit i have a problem with leaving out players from city/arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool..Had bale until 2 weeks ago (doh!)

No need to go overboard on this DGW, Sunderland's extra fixture is Chelsea, and Reading's defence is shipping too many goals. I would consider Morrison for his goal threat from corners, or Fletcher/Sess for one Sunderland attacker max.

Considering Van Persie as a captain option, I think the injection of Anderson into midfield, just makes VP a more attractive captain option. More creativity and speed on the ball, and he can play lovely through balls as well, and we all know that Van Persie's positioning is top notch. Also, the fact that he hasn't gone three games without scoring in the longest of times.

Should be in for a nice score this GW. Thoughts??

Anderson playing is irrelevant IMO, it all depends on Hernandez/Welbeck. If Utd play 4-4-Rooney-RVP, I'd be confident captaining RVP. If they play that Diamond formation, i won't expect much from him.

For all those that are thinking of ditching RVP.

Last year RVP scored an average 9 points per appearance.

So far this year has has only managed 6.7 if we don't count his first 20 min appearance.

This is obviously markedly poorer than last season. As I see it the reason is RVP is no longer the player that the team is built around. If arsenal scored well last season RVP was involved. He was there focal point.

With Man U this is no longer the case. As was ably demonstrated last GW Man U have plenty of goal scorers.

However this said I am finding it hard to find an able replacement. Sure I could spread the funds but then I'm a potential captain down and on the few occasions he's gonna score big I would miss out.

In short while RVP is not the big hitter we had all hoped for where else do we go? For this reason alone he won't be leaving my team any time soon.
