Tuesday’s matches lived up to expectations, as four sides low on confidence and fraught with stuttering form served up a single goal and limited returns. Here’s the Stock Check on this evening’s events…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
Thrown into the Scout Picks, the formidable Belgian striker delivered a third goal of the season to provide a vital winner for Villa. With Darren Bent kept in the stands, Benteke justified Paul Lambert’s faith in him with another muscular display. Maximum bonus beckons and it’s QPR and Stoke over the next two.

The Villa Defence
While Paul Lambert’s back four have conceded eight goals in their last five, all eight of those conceded came against United and City, meaning that the Villa back four have kept three clean sheets around those two matches. Three away games in the next four is an obstacle to investment, although their progress is clearly worth monitoring. Scout Pick Ciaran Clark has the goal threat to accompany defensive returns but he joined the suspension tightrope with his fourth booking tonight.

Adel Taarabt
There were question marks over the Moroccan’s role when Harry Redknapp took the reins but tonight’s showing indicated that Taarabt will remain a key figure and certainly QPR’s biggest threat and creative influence. While he drew a blank this evening, Fantasy managers will be monitoring his potential as QPR’s schedule improves.

Going Down

Sunderland’s Attack
With six goals in their last three matches, both Stephane Sessegnon and Steven Fletcher have attracted inevitable interest with a double Gameweek looming. However, tonight provided more evidence that we must remain cautious on their potential. Martin O’Neill’s side laboured again, with the bulk of their efforts on goal fired in from range.

Kaspar Gorkss
The Latvian was presumably rested, with Adrian Mariappa drafted into the centre of the Reading back four. Brian McDermott’s decision to omit the senior member of his defence could be significant given that Sean Morrison retained his start. With Chris Gunter also rotated out, the security of starts in the Reading rearguard is again in question.

Julio Cesar
The Brazilian reportedly picked up a groin injury in the first half and was denied clean sheet returns with Robert Green taking over for the second period. He’ll presumably be an early doubt for the meeting with Villa this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's all about the fixtures I'm afraid. I can't ignore Arsenal and Liverpool's fixtures. Baines is an attacking threat but he his return has been disappointing for me during the time I've had him.

Seriously had never looked at the Fulham av. position chart before. Assumed in games I've seen that he was just getting forward (relatively speaking) a lot, not that he was actually starting there.

He can consider himself dropped for Mertesacker then barring injuries.

don't think the yellows will be too costly. clark had 2 shots off target, whilst cuellar has been out-blocked by kilgallon and nelsen had an extra shot on target. my guess is a yellow is about -3ppi

There's understandably some doubt about Enrique remaining at left forward despite Rodgers' enthusiastic comments... would be good to put some meat on the bones here. Who do you think plausibly could replace him before the January wildcard?

I do think if Enrique is dropped at lf he won't even play lb unless GJ is injured - this is seen in his gameweek history. Do you think he will keep Suso out? I believe he pushed him out of lf in the first place.

I don't think anyone else in the squad has done enough to claim the position. Downing is terrible, Suso maybe but I think Jose will stay there for now. Good pace and strength and with wisdom back at RB, Johnson at LB he will stay in the advanced role.

I'd be happy with the Begovic/Foster pairing. The way they are playing, Sunderland won't keep many CS. Don't be swayed by the DGW, one game is against Chelsea and their fixtures are horrible after. Surely you can make better use of 2FTs.

Why not? Because of the DGW he might rise twice in two weeks. Make you some money, get you a twice-playing GK in DGW, and you can switch him back out after if your rotation wors better with Foster. No downside other than spending a transfer.

This is what intrigues me. He will surely see extra investment because of the DGW...and if I buy now that extra 0.1m would make me a profit.

I'm really unsure whether to do it because of tomorrow's games. It could come back to haunt me and I may also consider going for Tremmel/Gazzaniga instead to free up funds.

Do you think it's worth it to get that little profit?

I already have Garrido and Ruddy has a possible injury. I bought Foster at 5.1m so if he fell any further I'd be losing money too. And if the injury keeps him out for 2/3/4 more games his price will surely fall. What do you think?

Not sure what the haunting potential is. Do you mean you might need the transfers for other things? Of course that's true, but if you have two freebies I would spend on on a good GK who plays twice soon (and one against Reading at home) and will earn you some money. Seems a no-brainer to me.

Thanks mate, I actually wish I'd done the Mignolet transfer this afternoon for 8 points 🙂

I think it's a calculated risk, right? As you said, he should rise another .1m and I have the advantage of an extra game for my keeper. And with 2FT I don't see anything hugely pressing just at the minute. It might be a short term fix but I'm starting to see the positives about it more and more.

I just have this niggling doubt that it will majorly backfire somehow... 😐

So what is going on with Walcott and Wenger?

He wants £100,000 a week, but Wenger says they won't go past £25K.

If he doesn't sign a contract they lose him for £0 at end of the season.

    £25,000 a week for 5 years is £6.5 million.

Walcott is easily worth more than £6.5million right?

I just don't get it. Give him a contract for £100,000 a week, sell him at end of year for £10,000,000 or whatever - QUIDS IN.

It just seems like basic maths.

    What am I missing here?

25k? We must be willing to offer at least 75k. One of two things are happening:

      1) Theo wants assurances about the future of the club and his future as a striker.
      2) Arsenal don't really want Theo anymore.

We've done it before. Pires, Campbell & Flamini all left on frees.

assureances they just say "its all good we just got £150,000,000 from Emirates again and you can play upfront" then bench him and sell him....

Walcott does not care about the future of the club he loves the club if they got him 85 and a promise of playing center foward I believe that would suffice

but is it not basic maths?

"pay extra £25K for 6 months and get a return of £10,000,000+"

What do you reckon he would be worth on open market, assuming he was under contract?

Rumour is we'll be playing a back 3/5 tomorrow. Im not sure how this would affect FF. If its true I would expect our lineup to be,

    .......................Schwarz
    .......Hughes...Senderos...Baird
    Riether....Sidwell.......Diarra.........Riise
    ..........Berbatov.......Frei
    .......................Petric

How will Tevez owners feel at around 7.15 tomorrow, if they see the City starting line up and Tevez isn't in it?

I'd be shocked personally (even as somebody who transferred him out a fortnight ago) - he was rested on Sunday - hope he contributes little if he plays, but there looks to be goals in that game.

as a recent and regretting ex-owner I would be very happy to see him get a red card, or come on for 5 mins and do nothing.

      Ideally both.
