With clean sheets so scarce again this season, Fantasy managers have been largely forced to look to their defenders for attacking returns. With budget options also proving popular acquisitions, there is a drive to identify those defenders who can perhaps offer supplementary points to add to those rare occasions when they can keep their opponents at bay.

Thankfully, the role of the modern-day full-back in the Premier League also appears to have changed, with the emphasis now on joining the attack and helping provide a stream of opportunities for others.

In this latest article for our members, we cast an eye over those full-backs who have recently impressed in this area, assessing those most likely to deliver those occasional assists that can make all the difference to our Gameweek totals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Are clean sheets actually that scarce? e.g. Stoke got 9 clean sheets for the whole of last season, they are already on 8 this season. Does anyone know where I might find the data for last season compared to this season please?

    Which option is better?

    A) Suarez + Rooney + Snodgrass

    B) Suarez + Ba + Bale

    ***Third forward is RVP

    C) No RVP- Suarez + Rooney + Torres + Bale

    D) No RVP- Suarez + Rooney + Defoe + Mata

Man-United and Liverpool both have easy fixtures coming up and Snoddy is in good form so I'd say go with A. Definitely don't go with B because Bale is most likely not going to feature tomorrow and he's against Stoke next week who are having a great season when it comes to defense. I wouldn't choose C simply because I don't think Torres is 'back' just yet. I wouldn't mind going with D but there's no fun without RVP now is there.

    what do you think about:

    walcott+fletcher -> morrison+rooney (4 pt hit)

    whole team atm:
    jaas (bego)
    cameron enrique* shorey (cuellar) (clyne)
    dempsey walcott* fellaini michu sterling
    rvp suarez (fletcher)

if i do the transfer, sterling will be 1st sub and i will be no more thinking about that bib theory.

Similar situation for me got Clyne Cuellar & Enrique,

I had some money in the bank and swapped out Cuellar for Johnson.

Crossing fingers for Enrique to play, if the news comes in he isn't, I've only got 10 men playing due to no Chelsea v South, so may get rid of Enrique for a hit

Wait until he's comfirmed out, hopefully we may get some news before 11:30.
If he's out it's worth doing a hit cos Cuellar probably wont score much!

Hazmat at this stage last season there were 87 cleansheets compared with 79 so far this season.

The main difference is that United looked reliable, Fulham, Newcastle and Swansea were all value options and Norwich, Blackburn, Wigan, Wolves could be excluded. This season there are a lot more on a middle number of CS so less easy to predict.

Depends on your current team. If you have Tevez then I wouldn't recommend getting Silva. If Walcott is fit, he'd be a good option since he basically plays striker even though he's listed as a midfielder and plus, he's not heavily priced. If you have to choose purely between Santi and Silva, then I'd go with Silva.

hillbilly - im bringing in silva for 2 games then shifting to bale once he is back to full speed.

id rather have silva for newcastle and reading than bale with a blank then stoke

Without Cabaye you have to fancy Silva to control the game and Man City to dominate. Obviously that might not translate into points though.

Ok then, Gibbs, Mertesacker or Sagna?

With Sagna, contract negotiations/rumours of him leaving seem to have jeopardised his position.
Gibbs doesn’t seem as nailed on as Mert, but does his attacking potential outweigh that?

Really can't decide between the 3.

I'd go with Mertesacker. Arsenal aren't really scoring goals at the moment so you can't depend on a defender to score when even the attackers aren't getting the job done. Plus, Mertesacker isn't subject to rotation risk at all.

Afternoon all. I need a defender in for S.Taylor to play this week but also have decent(ish) upcoming fixtures. I was going to get Olsson, but I already have Foster who now looks like he might be fit. Given that I have Nolan playing this week, it seems silly to have him up against 2 of my backline. And I've got Fellaini up against one or more of Cameron and Begovic too.

Long and short of it is, I don't really know what the hell to do. Any ideas??

Cheers Doos.... Got Hughes already, and therefore reluctant to double up with Riise. Not sure Reid is worth 5.1...

Nelsen is one I'm half-tempted by, although this week he'd be up against Berba, who I also have. It seems like every half decent defender I think about is up against one of my attacking players this week. Which I guess doesn't bode massively well for my attackers!

Hypothetically, if you couldn't change your front lineup for the next 8-10 weeks, would you rather have:

    A) Defoe/Suarez/RVP
    B) Defoe/Rooney/RVP

      Defoe/Rooney/Suarez for me

We all know Rooney's form goes in short sharp bursts. Get hold of it while you can.

On that logic, B is the best choice out of your 2.

I'm holding Berb/Rooney/Suarez with the funds to go Berb-->Torres if necessary.
