The Gameweek is brought to a close by one of the most memorable Fantasy hauls of this or any season, as Santi Cazorla orchestrates a mauling of Reading in front of their own fans. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events at the Madjeski…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
An incredible display by the Spaniard who, perhaps for one night only, turned his superb performance statistics into staggering returns. Our members will know all too well just how impressive Cazorla has been in terms of numbers and tonight he delivered on that promise with a midfield hat-trick haul that has surely cemented his place amongst the true heavy-hitters. Reading were woeful but Carzola punished them without mercy.

Theo Walcott
The night could have belonged to winger turned striker but, in the end, Walcott played second fiddle to the sparkling Santi. Regardless, Walcott’s move to the central striker role gave Arsenal menace up front and Theo came out with a goal to his name and facing the prospect of leading the line at Wigan at the weekend. There’s no way Cazorla owners will be making the switch just now but could their be a case for finding room for both of Wenger’s midfield assets in the short-term? We need to see this new look Arsenal against opposition less obliging than Brian McDermott’s side.

Kieran Gibbs
Arsenal conceded again but, with superior possession in matches, will inevitably keep clean sheets over the second half the season and Gibbs, as demonstrated tonight, can supplement this potential with attacking returns. More expensive that Bacary Sagna on the right, but perhaps more secure given that Thomas Vermaelen would seem set to remain at centre-back, Gibbs will earn new suitors off the back of tonight’s returns.

Lukas Podolksi
Quietly and efficiently, the German has shifted onto five goals and five assists for the season after tonight’s showing. Whilst the attention and investment will go the way of Arsenal’s midfield talent, Podolski deserves some praise for having seemingly adapted well to the Premier League stage and a role primarily out on the Gunners flank.

Going Down

Olivier Giroud
Relegated to the bench tonight, it seems unlikely that he’ll earn an immediate recall at Wigan and could now spend some time as a spectator whilst Arsenal drag themselves back into form and top four contention. Giroud has stalled again as a Premier League prospect and Fantasy asset in a less than convincing opening to his career in England.

The Reading Defence
It’s hard to sum up just how porous the Royals’ back four appeared at times. They have now conceded 13 goals in the last four league outings and it’s almost as easy as backing their opponents for three or four strikes every week. Reading go to City at the weekend, with Fantasy managers now desperately attempting to crowbar a secure City asset into their squad; easier said than done.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nastasic won't get rotated... Lescott is heavily out of favour, and kolo toure is very average.

Just a quickie to the people who think Aguero will be rested this week. Why?

If he’s rested this week, he’ll have had no game in 11 days, followed by 3 games in 7 days. What good will that do him?

If/when Aguero gets rested, it’ll be between GWs 19 and 21.

To be fair to the guy. Suarez, Defoe everyone would have played. Michu and Fellaini are the template midfielders, widely owned, scored lots of points recently. Tevez and Silva away at Sunderland, could see points there. I reckon there's only Sterling there that seems a dodgy pick ahead of Cazorla, who hadn't produced much lately. And Sterling was home to Villa. It looks bad now, but it wasn't the craziest of moves.

I dont have the fund free for anything more than 7.5, thinking west brom might be a good option. Clark has poor rotation fpl wise, but Brunt has been really threatening recently.

I got in silva instead of yaya if it is any help to you. I went against the stats simply because every time I go on a bandwagon transfer it flops.
So I decided that Silva is due to hit a wave of form or at least get the occasional assist.

Its vital but yaya doesn't count as city cover, he's a DM and won't get forward that often.

To be fair, the entire City team except their CBs will be within 30 yards of Readings goal for 80 plus minutes. It will be crazy.

I have already made a transfer so this would be for-4 points. 1.1 in bank
Should I get rid of Giroud and hope he turns into a super sub over arsenals run of fixtures ?
        or
get Tevez who may be likely to be rested.

I made a balls of the Giroud or Ba decision weeks ago. Thought Giroud would be a great "differential" whatever that is...
Giroud has made a major difference to my ranking maybe that is what it means.

Ever since the general increase in prices that happenned a few seasons back, no player priced at 5.5 has even been genuinely consistent.

That's not the criteria for why he should be in your team.

fair point. let's say 'occasionally explosive enough to warrant investment' then. those occasions won't be frequent enough and those explosions won't be explosive enough, imo.

Tevez is more involved despite playing in behind. Even if you could say both are relatively even when all things are considered (and I'd say they are), thats when the value swings the vote.

Boxing day tube strike. London games potentially postponed. QPR have said theirs is going ahead, but no word yet on Fulham-Southampton and Arsenal-West Ham...

Which knocks out the best cheap defender options.

Beautiful. Not much in the way of defensive returns going round anyway.

That's the point. There's incredible value in defence. It makes the above affordable.

Cue a Guthrie start and defensive style from Reading...

Wigan have conceded 16 in their last 7. I think I'd rather get in Walcott playing upfront than Yaya playing DM vs Reading.

Missing a player in your squad who has 'RDG(H)' written beneath them may not be the end of the world after all...

Just to convince myself, Wigan have conceded 2 or more goals at home on 8 occasions this season. There.

Walcott, Mata or Silva for me. This will be a huge decision...

        Which one is better

        Fellaini -> Yaya
        or
Fellaini Berba -> Taarabt (or any 5.5 midf) + Tevez for a hit.
