The Gameweek is brought to a close by one of the most memorable Fantasy hauls of this or any season, as Santi Cazorla orchestrates a mauling of Reading in front of their own fans. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events at the Madjeski…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
An incredible display by the Spaniard who, perhaps for one night only, turned his superb performance statistics into staggering returns. Our members will know all too well just how impressive Cazorla has been in terms of numbers and tonight he delivered on that promise with a midfield hat-trick haul that has surely cemented his place amongst the true heavy-hitters. Reading were woeful but Carzola punished them without mercy.

Theo Walcott
The night could have belonged to winger turned striker but, in the end, Walcott played second fiddle to the sparkling Santi. Regardless, Walcott’s move to the central striker role gave Arsenal menace up front and Theo came out with a goal to his name and facing the prospect of leading the line at Wigan at the weekend. There’s no way Cazorla owners will be making the switch just now but could their be a case for finding room for both of Wenger’s midfield assets in the short-term? We need to see this new look Arsenal against opposition less obliging than Brian McDermott’s side.

Kieran Gibbs
Arsenal conceded again but, with superior possession in matches, will inevitably keep clean sheets over the second half the season and Gibbs, as demonstrated tonight, can supplement this potential with attacking returns. More expensive that Bacary Sagna on the right, but perhaps more secure given that Thomas Vermaelen would seem set to remain at centre-back, Gibbs will earn new suitors off the back of tonight’s returns.

Lukas Podolksi
Quietly and efficiently, the German has shifted onto five goals and five assists for the season after tonight’s showing. Whilst the attention and investment will go the way of Arsenal’s midfield talent, Podolski deserves some praise for having seemingly adapted well to the Premier League stage and a role primarily out on the Gunners flank.

Going Down

Olivier Giroud
Relegated to the bench tonight, it seems unlikely that he’ll earn an immediate recall at Wigan and could now spend some time as a spectator whilst Arsenal drag themselves back into form and top four contention. Giroud has stalled again as a Premier League prospect and Fantasy asset in a less than convincing opening to his career in England.

The Reading Defence
It’s hard to sum up just how porous the Royals’ back four appeared at times. They have now conceded 13 goals in the last four league outings and it’s almost as easy as backing their opponents for three or four strikes every week. Reading go to City at the weekend, with Fantasy managers now desperately attempting to crowbar a secure City asset into their squad; easier said than done.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I know it's never good to plan to far in advance, but how about this as a draft?
    Allows a bit of flexibility...

    GW18

    Giroud > Aguero (c)
Fellaini > SWP (funds the Aguero move, sits on bench) -4

    GW19

    Play SWP (WBA)
    Suarez/Aguero > Benteke

    GW20

    SWP > Walcott/Mata

    Repahst

    Current team is

    Bego Foster
    Cuellar Ridgwell Baines Clyne Shorey
    Snodgrass Cazorla Michu Sterling Fella
    Rvp Ba Berba
    4.4 in the bank

This is my plan for the next weeks

Berba -> Tévez for this gw then I swap him for Benteke and I do Snodgrass -> Bale
Snodgrass -> Silva for this gw then I swap him for Bale.

    More suggestions would be welcome

In my opinion, he'll be rested in GW19 against Stoke away. Sterling is too lightweight for the game at the Britannia. One tackle and he'd be gone for 6 months. Rodgers should be wise enough not to risk him.

I agree, but it's annoying isn't it? Some heavy team need to give Stoke a going over (apologies Stoke fans). Back in the day there'd be a number of teams who'd play like for like with the physicality, now it's like teams rock up to the Brittania expecting nothing more than a point and a bruising.

This year's gotten really worse, hasn't it? We now see more teams play the passing game thus more technical players than physical ones. Partially due to the diving craze, referees seem to give less freekicks for fouls and definitely less penalties. This does seem to benefit Stoke players who often get away with strong and potentially dangerous tackles.

It really has. Sometimes you managers to grab their players and shake them and say 'Hey! You're just as big, just as strong, and just as fast, so get into them before they do you!' They never seem to.

    Benching problems :

Need to know whom should i play and keep on sub bench

    1. Ridgwell or Cameron
    2. Jask or Ming
    3. Fletcher or Snodgrass

Currently am leaning to this team and sub line :

    Jask,
    Demel, Ridgwell, Enrique
    Snodgrass, Walcott, Mata, Sess, Yaya
    Rooney, Suarez

Subs : Ming, Fletcher, Cameron, Shorey.

Rafael: provide more attacking points, will get more clean sheet with the return of Vidic, 75% chance of playing (not nailed on) ==> keep him, if you have 4 other defenders which are 99% nailed on

Enrique: has potential of 25% OOP chance, injury prone, good clean sheet chance, 99% nailed on if he is fit ==> keep him, if you only have 3 or less other defenders which are 99% nailed on

Finally convinced my gf to make her own FPL team for fun..

Without my help, this is what she's come up with:

    Hart, Cerny
    Nelsen, Fonte, Turner, Baker, Hughes
    Silva, Hazard, Yaya, Pienaar, Guthrie
    RVP, Suarez, Berba

    Thoughts? 😆

Cazorla's in the box play today was so atypical of him.

Gary Neville, pre match did this great analysis on how all Arsenals main attacking midfielders used to make runs in the empty pockets into the box. Wilshere, Rosicky, Hleb, Fabregas etc...and points out through video footage that Cazorla is exactly the opposite. Goes towards the ball asking for it instead of running into small spaces and expecting a pass....and then he goes and does that in the RDG game 😀

For sure but you gotta be in it to win it. The odds vary depending on the player and I'd say Aguero and Tevez will be odds on to do well as a result of the good fixtures. Much more than Yaya and Silva anyway
