The Gameweek is brought to a close by one of the most memorable Fantasy hauls of this or any season, as Santi Cazorla orchestrates a mauling of Reading in front of their own fans. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday’s events at the Madjeski…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
An incredible display by the Spaniard who, perhaps for one night only, turned his superb performance statistics into staggering returns. Our members will know all too well just how impressive Cazorla has been in terms of numbers and tonight he delivered on that promise with a midfield hat-trick haul that has surely cemented his place amongst the true heavy-hitters. Reading were woeful but Carzola punished them without mercy.

Theo Walcott
The night could have belonged to winger turned striker but, in the end, Walcott played second fiddle to the sparkling Santi. Regardless, Walcott’s move to the central striker role gave Arsenal menace up front and Theo came out with a goal to his name and facing the prospect of leading the line at Wigan at the weekend. There’s no way Cazorla owners will be making the switch just now but could their be a case for finding room for both of Wenger’s midfield assets in the short-term? We need to see this new look Arsenal against opposition less obliging than Brian McDermott’s side.

Kieran Gibbs
Arsenal conceded again but, with superior possession in matches, will inevitably keep clean sheets over the second half the season and Gibbs, as demonstrated tonight, can supplement this potential with attacking returns. More expensive that Bacary Sagna on the right, but perhaps more secure given that Thomas Vermaelen would seem set to remain at centre-back, Gibbs will earn new suitors off the back of tonight’s returns.

Lukas Podolksi
Quietly and efficiently, the German has shifted onto five goals and five assists for the season after tonight’s showing. Whilst the attention and investment will go the way of Arsenal’s midfield talent, Podolski deserves some praise for having seemingly adapted well to the Premier League stage and a role primarily out on the Gunners flank.

Going Down

Olivier Giroud
Relegated to the bench tonight, it seems unlikely that he’ll earn an immediate recall at Wigan and could now spend some time as a spectator whilst Arsenal drag themselves back into form and top four contention. Giroud has stalled again as a Premier League prospect and Fantasy asset in a less than convincing opening to his career in England.

The Reading Defence
It’s hard to sum up just how porous the Royals’ back four appeared at times. They have now conceded 13 goals in the last four league outings and it’s almost as easy as backing their opponents for three or four strikes every week. Reading go to City at the weekend, with Fantasy managers now desperately attempting to crowbar a secure City asset into their squad; easier said than done.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Does anybody remember what day of the week the Cup opponents get listed? Last year in my league, I did some background checking, trying to put a profile to the otherwise totally random opponent and wrote up a little Cup profile each week. It was a lot of fun going up against an actual person rather than just a team name. This year I am running the league and have been writing a weekly wrap of each GW. Our league has grown in size and I am a bit nervous about the amount of work I have bitten off. League members are loving it though, and clamoring for more. Want to get a jump on the first week writeups.

They lack the writing skills. I enjoy the writing. The creative outlet is something that can be hard to find elsewhere in work.

Rotation problem not avoided by the switch, but I think it's a better investment. Save the money and spend it elsewhere. Really hurts to have that much money on bench, so slightly less pain with Tevez.

After that Santi Claus brace last night, my hope has pretty much ended.
    Or what do you think?

    Here's some bad stats;
    1. gap for ml leader 130 points
    2. gap for 10th place (last money price) over 70 points

    My choices are
    a) keep going and hope for the best
    b) forget my season rank and start playing monthly competition from january

I'm thinking b) and maybe actually have some fun with this game next year..

    Advice please!

    With 2 FTs do I:

    Caulker to Johnson
    Fellaini to Puncheon
    Giroud to Torres
    -4pts

    or

    Caulker to Zabaleta
    Giroud to Torres

or any variations on that theme...I have £1.9m in the bank at the moment.

poor marking by Reading defence. If I am not mistaken, all Santi's goals came from crosses/passes on the left side by Gibbs/Podolski

Mainly crap Reading defence, but Walcott's runs allowed Caz to run into dangerous spaces

Walcott had 2 one-on-one situations (from Caz passes), but shoot straight at Fed in both occasions

Yeah, what I thought, may get Walcott as a result. Just watched it on Footy Room, W's first chance I think he had time to round the keeper but chose the wrong option. But if he is occupying the defense that will let Caz weave his magic behind him.

I'm most likely doing Fellaini, Lallana & Hughes –> Silva, Puncheon & Baker to give me

                Bego / Tremmel
                Rafael / Shorey / Nelsen / Baker / Jones
                Santi / Silva / Michu / Sterling / Puncheon
                RVP / Rooney / Suarez

😀 With enough to get Bale and/or Mata for Silva and/or Santi.

I see there's not big gap between big hitters and cheap defenders. Actually Rafael just scored 63p, while Cuellar, Nelsen still scored 4x points. With big hitters in Mid and FWD, just 1 game you can get a lot of points (at Cazorla yesterday)

What a night! Got home from my wedding anniversary meal to see that Caz had carried on...
Obviously, I wasn't checking the scores during the night out. That would have been rude. Obviously.
    Anyway. Now what to do?

    Fella + Giroud (-4pt) to:
