[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A trio of protagonists are set to sit out their respective sides’ upcoming domestic fixtures after the weekend’s action. Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu both picked up their fifth cautions of the campaign and are unavailable for Gameweek 18, while Gary Cahill’s dismissal in Chelsea’s World Cup Championship loss to Corinthians will earn him a one-match ban for the Blues’ midweek Capital One Cup trip to Leeds:

Sidwell’s suspension curtails his recent rise to form – the midfielder has returned a goal and assist over his last couple for Fulham, while tough-tackling Mulumbu’s loss is likely to have a knock-on effect for James Morrison. With Claudio Yacob remaining a doubt for West Brom, Morrison looks set to continue in a deeper-lying role as Norwich roll up to the Hawthorns next Saturday.

Cahill’s clash with Emerson, which led to his red card, is set to be reviewed by FIFA’s disciplinary committee this week. While they could potentially increase the ban, it is not expected to be extended, meaning he will be available for the home clash against Villa next Sunday.

Elsewhere, the tightrope welcomes five new members after their weekend indiscretions. Mike Williamson, Adel Taarabt, Billy Jones, Kevin Nolan and Jermain Defoe must now be on their best behaviour over the next three Gameweeks – another caution will earn them an automatic one-match ban before the limit is extended to 10 yellows at the New Year.

Heading into this evening’s match at the Madejski, there are five players currently sitting on three yellows apiece. Olivier Giroud, Thomas Vermaelen, Noel Hunt, Mikele Leigertwood and Adrian Mariappa are all just one caution away from joining the above-mentioned players on the tightrope as the festive period picks up in pace.

The main topic of contention this week, however, is the possible ban facing Marouane Fellain after his headbutt on Ryan Shawcross in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia. If the FA decide to act, as expected, it remains to be seen just how many matches he could potentially miss – David Moyes has already admitted Everton won’t contest any charge. Behind the scenes, we’re making tentative plans for a Fellaini suspension, with an article set to follow later this week on the myriad of exit routes available should he fall foul of the authorities.

      I have a simliar dilemma, though mine is Silva-4pts or Yaya. Given I will probably bin the City player once Fellaini's ban is over I'm struggling to justify the hit for only 3 or 4 games or usage.

    What would you do with this team:

    Foster/ Guzan
    Rafael/ Gallas/ Mertesacker/ Nelsen/ Wisdom
    Fellaini/ Mata/ Walcott/ Michu/ Sterling
    RVP/ Suarez/ Defoe

    0.3 in bank, 2 FT.

    A) Wisdom + Fellaini --> Davies/Clyne + Nasri/Yaya
    B) Wisdom + Fellaini --> Clyne + A.Young
    C) Wisdom + Fellaini + Foster (-4 hit) --> Nastasic + Puncheon + Cech

      Definitely not 50!

      You could change 10 players for -36 in points hits and that would effectively be a WC as everyone keeps a few and wouldn't want to lose them (Michu, Bale etc.)

      No more than 20.

      Outside playing for price rises, it would only ever cost you 56 points to change all 15 players in your team!

      I have in the past taken a 20 point hit when my team was a shambles as an effective wildcard though.

      I think the logical solution would be to allow accumulated days of no transfers to accumulate the amount of transfers one is allowed. At the moment it only rises to 2 free even if you dont make any transfers for say 3-4 GW's. that would be an ideal alternative i feel.

    tentative price change predictions

    risers: Yaya
    fallers: Berbatov, Fellaini (if NOT suspended today and hence red flagged today).

    Bale is not on course to fall tonight as he's orange flagged and so I think he needs to reach -150% to fall. If the flag is taken off as a result of AVB's comments saying he will play next week, we'll see if his price is frozen or not.

            that too, but being so high in the rankings and having a massive profile help keep the falls away IMO - look how long it took for hazard to start falling after Mata re-emerged. I guess in the same way the prominent coverage of his headbutt guaranteed him a firesale.

    City (h) to Reading is a risky fixture from an FPL perspective with Mancini in charge. If they game is over early doors he loves making changes and your big hitter that looked primed for a big week is subbed prematurely. You also have the likes of Sinclair and Dzeko that could play instead of a more obvious choice.

    Mancini can't afford any slip ups so it could be that he keeps the same midfield/forwards that beat Newcastle. Just don't be surprised if he throws one or two spanners in the works.

      Yeah it's always a risk. Dzeko did not cover himself in glory against Newcastle though...I would be very surprised if he started against Reading. He looked so disinterested when he came on. Balotelli being out of favour and in Mancini's bad books once again might lessen the rotation risks.

    I love the indignation towards picking Yaya over Silva.

    Yaya beats him in points per game this season and has run Silva fairly close for points in both previous seasons despite being considerably cheaper.

      Silva is so meh for me. Didn't watch the Newcastle game yet but before that his scores have been shite. Only 2 extremely dodgy assists and a scrappy goal vs Villa has saved him from a Valencia style season so far.

        Is fairly close over the season. Yaya played two games less (ok not much).

        I still think Silva will score more but doesn't mean Yaya can't be better value.

          4 less games last season wasn't it?

          Given that Yaya averages 4-5 points per game that's somewhere in the region of 18 points which brings the gap down to 27 points. That's not much for nearly £2.0m extra...

      I fkn love Ya Ya. Remember last week went he skipped away from Rooney and another two United players, made em look silly and was off charging down the wing towards goal with no United players near him and in a really dangerous position and... ref blows the whistle for a foul... on him! I wanted to punch the TV. Mancini must have wanted to murder him. Awful refereeing.

        Silva plays for a team that scores and scores well. Come end of season, United and City would have scored the most goals, with Silva being the provider for a large share of those. It would be more spread at Chelsea and Rafa loves rotation. And they have Torres upfront..

        Yeah true... but not this week for me. Avl have hit form and Che are playing midweek. Add to that what Robinho says above and it seems logical to me to get Silva in this week and Mata next.

      I have Tevez and I'm not too fussed about owning him. He's only there because I don't like Ba's fixtures, I can't afford Rooney and Berbatov's form blows.

      Aguero's form before Newcastle IRL terms was poor, not sure how he played although I see he scored.

        He looked very threathening to me, had a decent amount of chances, even though the goal he scored was probably the easiest he'll score this season. But overall their attack looked good, movement seems to be better. Yaya was pumping out some excellent through balls.

    Interesting to see in the whole of last season baines only got 4 goals and 2 assists

    134 points total

    im starting to wonder is he really that good value anymore , his peak season he was class 5 goals and 11 assists

    It seems now that everton dont get many CS its all about relying on everton getting pens.

    Now that i have G johnson im seriously thinking downgrading baines and upgrading suarez to RVP
