[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A trio of protagonists are set to sit out their respective sides’ upcoming domestic fixtures after the weekend’s action. Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu both picked up their fifth cautions of the campaign and are unavailable for Gameweek 18, while Gary Cahill’s dismissal in Chelsea’s World Cup Championship loss to Corinthians will earn him a one-match ban for the Blues’ midweek Capital One Cup trip to Leeds:

Sidwell’s suspension curtails his recent rise to form – the midfielder has returned a goal and assist over his last couple for Fulham, while tough-tackling Mulumbu’s loss is likely to have a knock-on effect for James Morrison. With Claudio Yacob remaining a doubt for West Brom, Morrison looks set to continue in a deeper-lying role as Norwich roll up to the Hawthorns next Saturday.

Cahill’s clash with Emerson, which led to his red card, is set to be reviewed by FIFA’s disciplinary committee this week. While they could potentially increase the ban, it is not expected to be extended, meaning he will be available for the home clash against Villa next Sunday.

Elsewhere, the tightrope welcomes five new members after their weekend indiscretions. Mike Williamson, Adel Taarabt, Billy Jones, Kevin Nolan and Jermain Defoe must now be on their best behaviour over the next three Gameweeks – another caution will earn them an automatic one-match ban before the limit is extended to 10 yellows at the New Year.

Heading into this evening’s match at the Madejski, there are five players currently sitting on three yellows apiece. Olivier Giroud, Thomas Vermaelen, Noel Hunt, Mikele Leigertwood and Adrian Mariappa are all just one caution away from joining the above-mentioned players on the tightrope as the festive period picks up in pace.

The main topic of contention this week, however, is the possible ban facing Marouane Fellain after his headbutt on Ryan Shawcross in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia. If the FA decide to act, as expected, it remains to be seen just how many matches he could potentially miss – David Moyes has already admitted Everton won’t contest any charge. Behind the scenes, we’re making tentative plans for a Fellaini suspension, with an article set to follow later this week on the myriad of exit routes available should he fall foul of the authorities.

Doesn't seem to get many FPL points. Rich man's Gervinho; dribbles a lot but likes to lose it / not shoot.

It's not great "cover" ... if you pick him, you're picking him for the player rather than to cover the team. He could easily not be involved in a 4-0 win. Looked very wasteful yesterday, to me.

    Last ask:

Pilkington v Puncheon long term, taking into consideration Norwich’s FA Cup tie against Peterborough and Southampton’s FA Cup tie against Chelsea?

Also take into consideration Puncheon's price is much lower (freeing up $$$ for transfer window - Suarez > Falcao anyone?!) and also that Southampton currently have a game in hand. Balances out against their high chance of going out the FA Cup in the first game?

Three high-profile Premier League games are now at risk of postponement after London Underground drivers voted in favour of striking on Boxing Day.

Members of the ASLEF union continued their long-running row with Tube bosses over bank holiday pay by deciding on three, 24-hour strikes - including a third consecutive Boxing Day walkout.

The decision puts Arsenal v West Ham, Fulham v Southampton and QPR v West Brom under threat, with many fans using the Underground network to travel to stadiums and many modes of public transport already affected by reduced services.

True enough, but London's so over-populated compared to most of the UK and generally people are reliant on public transport (I don't know anyone in London who owns a car)... one tube line goes down on a weekend and the place goes crazy - if the whole thing is shut I wouldn't be suprised to see all 3 games off.

I have Silva and am deciding between Bale and Mata. I slightly favour Bale, as he's nailed on, but then Mata has better fixtures and Bale's returning from an injury

Depends who else you've got in your team really (if you fixed your link it would be much easier to decide on) but someone like Sterling or Puncheon could free up some funds for you. Sunderland's fixture isn't exactly that bad this week so not so sure why you want to shift out this week (especially as you held onto them).

    It's come down to this:

    A: Fellani + sess >> silva/mata/bale + any mid upto 6.3m
    B: Fellani + Enrique/Rafael >> silva/bale/mata + any def upto 4.5

    Between bale/mata/silva....
Bale: gets a high proportion of spurs goals...way more explosive...bt has stoke at home and then avl and sland away which can be tough...

Silva: consistent bt doesn't get in the box too much...similar to cazorla..assists the assister. Not as high proportion of city goals as compared to bale...sland and Norwich awAy and then stoke and ars

Mata: in the middle between silva vs bale when it comes to explosive and consistent...bt like silva, less proportion of goals then spurs...myt be rotated...after villa, have Norwich and everto away both very tough

    Sooooo
Thinking of doing option B and go with bale...

    Thoughts?
