[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A trio of protagonists are set to sit out their respective sides’ upcoming domestic fixtures after the weekend’s action. Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu both picked up their fifth cautions of the campaign and are unavailable for Gameweek 18, while Gary Cahill’s dismissal in Chelsea’s World Cup Championship loss to Corinthians will earn him a one-match ban for the Blues’ midweek Capital One Cup trip to Leeds:

Sidwell’s suspension curtails his recent rise to form – the midfielder has returned a goal and assist over his last couple for Fulham, while tough-tackling Mulumbu’s loss is likely to have a knock-on effect for James Morrison. With Claudio Yacob remaining a doubt for West Brom, Morrison looks set to continue in a deeper-lying role as Norwich roll up to the Hawthorns next Saturday.

Cahill’s clash with Emerson, which led to his red card, is set to be reviewed by FIFA’s disciplinary committee this week. While they could potentially increase the ban, it is not expected to be extended, meaning he will be available for the home clash against Villa next Sunday.

Elsewhere, the tightrope welcomes five new members after their weekend indiscretions. Mike Williamson, Adel Taarabt, Billy Jones, Kevin Nolan and Jermain Defoe must now be on their best behaviour over the next three Gameweeks – another caution will earn them an automatic one-match ban before the limit is extended to 10 yellows at the New Year.

Heading into this evening’s match at the Madejski, there are five players currently sitting on three yellows apiece. Olivier Giroud, Thomas Vermaelen, Noel Hunt, Mikele Leigertwood and Adrian Mariappa are all just one caution away from joining the above-mentioned players on the tightrope as the festive period picks up in pace.

The main topic of contention this week, however, is the possible ban facing Marouane Fellain after his headbutt on Ryan Shawcross in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia. If the FA decide to act, as expected, it remains to be seen just how many matches he could potentially miss – David Moyes has already admitted Everton won’t contest any charge. Behind the scenes, we’re making tentative plans for a Fellaini suspension, with an article set to follow later this week on the myriad of exit routes available should he fall foul of the authorities.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

        Already have Mata and Defoe which covers Spurs. Thinking of either Silva for a hit and including a Sess to Puncheon move....or Yaya for christmas and no hit.

          Will he score like everyone is hoping for though? That extra 2.7m in having Garcia means a huge difference elsewhere. Besides Garcia has 2 goals in 4 starts, which is pretty impressive for a DFM

        I know the point your making but Garcia actually reinforces what Yaya isn't - a pure CDM. He gets forward and if they are chasing the game gets pushed right forward.

      Is it crazy to consider A, when i can do B straight?

      A) Fellaini + Baines -> Mata + 5.8 (Clichy)
      B) Fellaini -> Michu

      I have been without Michu so far, and it has hurt me. But it doesn't feel right getting him in this week. Maybe i can catch up a bit on his owners?

        I'd say go B. If for no other reason thany you'd fell like a d!ck if Clichy doesn`t play and you spent 4 points on him. Also Mata has been rotated a little recently. Michu nailed on.

          The hit has to be taken in order to get Mata. I may regret that yes, but what do you think about the isolated issue of being without Michu this week? He could get booked as well. That would hurt if i go with opt. B.

      @JOA - Consider whether Nolan not scoring since Carroll was injured is a coincidence or not.

      Also - meanwhile - Puncheon with 2 goals and 2 assists in last 5. Plus the O'Neil Factor = Punch all the way.

          If I thought Young would start v Newcastle and West Brom I'd get him in a flash. Just so many rotation risks with United it's hard to know who to get without paying silly money for Vidic or Evra.

          He's been awesome, and Mancini would be a fool to drop him. Hopefully Maicon begins to cover LB so he's safe. Thinking of getting him in next week. Dont trust Nastasic at all with Lescott and Kolo in the waiting.

        Admittedly not the best FPL in the world, but I think they are decent options up until January.

          I'm mulling over something similar. The big worry with Young is the starts. Fergie loves to rotate and with Kags possibly coming back during Christmas too I think YaYa has to get the nod there.

            I think Kagawa is still some way from being match fit, I would give him around 2 weeks before he's back. I would have Stirling cover anyway, so perhaps going for Young could work out aslong as he doesn't get those annoying 10minute cameos.

            Toure is the safer bet, albeit not a very exciting one. I feel Young is capable of scoring big points, even if he has been disappointing so far this season.

          Depends a lot on how high variance you want in your team. My worry with Bale though would be I'm not convinced about how well he's come back from injury in the past (eg end of 2010/11 season) so I'd want to see signs of form before bringing him back. Mata worries me too given Rafa's style of play.

        Yaya or Silva? Discussion was present a few pages back but didn't get anywhere. Both nailed on it seems. City chasing games means Yaya pushing up. City winning games means Silva being involved. I have no other pressing concerns so need to decide which to pick for Fella.
