Southampton battle for a point at St Maryโ€™s as Theo Walcott endures a frustrating evening on his return to his former stamping ground. Hereโ€™s the Stock Check on Saturdayโ€™s evening kick-offโ€ฆ

On the Up

Gaston Ramirez
Back in the side having been kept out of the heat of the Britannia battle, the Uruguayan fired home his third goal of the season to give the Saints the advantage. Ramirez has promised much since his arrival, without really catching fire as a Fantasy asset. With Adam Lallana seemingly sidelined for the foreseeable future, however, he looks to be a key figure in Southamptonโ€™s battle for survival and my yet draw our interest when fixtures fall kinder for Nigel Adkinsโ€™ men.

Jason Puncheon
A prime budget option, Puncheon has disappointed of late having looked to be making a mockery of his price tag. Nonetheless, the assist for tonightโ€™s goal took him to six for the season and with two goals and a record that shows heโ€™s started the last ten league matches, Puncheon is a reliable budget midfielder who offers attacking intent. He could yet show his worth if the Saints can improve their goal output.

The Southampton Defence
Prior to conceding three at Stoke, Nigel Adkinsโ€™ side had let in just four goals in six league outings. Tonight, the new resolute defence was again on show as Southampton worked tirelessly to stifle the Arsenal threat. Nathaniel Clyne missed out again with a knee problem but he and Jose Fonte are emerging as decent budget options in the light of the new emphasis on keeping things tight.

Going Down

Theo Walcott
While the Gunners man returned the assist for Do Pradoโ€™s own goal, Walcott suffered a miserable night back at his former club. Having seen little joy in the lone striker role, he was shifted to a wide role on the introduction of Oliver Giroud. Walcott cut a forlorn figure at the whistle and this was a far cry from the stunning display that helped see off Newcastle at the weekend.

Santi Cazorla
Itโ€™s just one assist in three matches now for the playmaker who has found himself dissolve into the background in Fantasy terms, as Walcott has come to the fore. Owners of Cazorla will surely have one eye on the double fixture in Gameweek 23 and hoping for a revival, while tonightโ€™s showing from Walcott will perhaps do little to prompt the straight swap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Aguero injured his hamstring. Tevez should start next game right?
Anyway, I am selling Shorey, 3.1m in bank. Suggestion?

    My team:
    Begovic
    Obrien Nelsen Davies
    Walcott Mata Bale Michu
    Suarez Tevez RVP

    Foster Shorey Puncheon Cameron

Who goes through the fpl cup A or B

    A) 29 points + Suarez, Sterling, Nelsen

    B) A Cole, Ivanovic, G Johnson, Sessegnon, A Johnson

Surely A has a large enough lead...

look at it this way. play it now and you get 17 matches with those players that you want, play in in 3 games time and get 14 matches. i know there's other considerations but that the way i look at it

Surely when Llana is back Puncheon's starting role will be under threat? And surely they won't bench Ramirez?
Also, now Sturridge should take over Sterling's role, right?
    So Sterling > Ramirez?

puncheon brings pace to soton that no other player does so dont see him being dropped when fit.

no united! but puncheon is the only out and out winger in the team and is in good form was in the team when lalana was fit before.
tbh i just rarely spent more then 5 mil on players from lower end of the league as even with 'favourable' fixtures can be so unpredictable. i would usually have them as cheap cover which is why i go with puncheon from soton,
for example of his 3 goals ramirez has scored home to arsenal and away to everton in both situations he would probably be on your bench.

This DGW is overrated. Especially Gibbs and Sagna...I don't see an Arsenal CS against City or Chelsea tbh and West Ham striker O'brien is on fire

2 goals for Mata, then 2 goals for O'Brien. 2 points for Arsenal defenders and that's before yellow cards ๐Ÿ˜‰

+1. the amount of talk about stocking up on arsenal and west ham defenders is lolable considering neither will keep 1 clean sheet over the 2 games imo. Walcott will suffice for me.

I never had the intention of getting an Ars def for the dgw. Plan was to get obrien, even before his haul today.

I'm fine with just Walcott. I had my eye on Podolski, but he got subbed off early today :/

DGW is overrated, but I hurt myself with only having Mata the first gameweek lol...

I have 10 days or so to agonise over my WC, going to 3-5-2. It will come down to...

    Azpilicueta/Nastasic + Suarez

    vs

4.9 DEF (likely to be Cuellar) + Aguero

suarez plays every min and involved in everything pool do.
i wouldnt get azpilicueta/nastasic both rotation risks imo.
i would get rangel as def lot of goal/assist potenial which is where most points have come from for def this season (evra/ivanovic for example) not many teams getting consistant cs.

Hear you about Suarez, he is also on 7 bookings though. When he gets to 10, a 2 match ban will be so annoying!

Rangel is a no go, I have Davies and will keep him.

ah hard to suggest with team link!
if/when suarez gets ban you can always transfer augero in which is what i will probably do and settle cuellar/hughes in def. usually mid priced def for top teams are susceptible to rotation so if u really want top def go with bit more expensive zabaleta/luiz
