Southampton battle for a point at St Mary’s as Theo Walcott endures a frustrating evening on his return to his former stamping ground. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Gaston Ramirez
Back in the side having been kept out of the heat of the Britannia battle, the Uruguayan fired home his third goal of the season to give the Saints the advantage. Ramirez has promised much since his arrival, without really catching fire as a Fantasy asset. With Adam Lallana seemingly sidelined for the foreseeable future, however, he looks to be a key figure in Southampton’s battle for survival and my yet draw our interest when fixtures fall kinder for Nigel Adkins’ men.

Jason Puncheon
A prime budget option, Puncheon has disappointed of late having looked to be making a mockery of his price tag. Nonetheless, the assist for tonight’s goal took him to six for the season and with two goals and a record that shows he’s started the last ten league matches, Puncheon is a reliable budget midfielder who offers attacking intent. He could yet show his worth if the Saints can improve their goal output.

The Southampton Defence
Prior to conceding three at Stoke, Nigel Adkins’ side had let in just four goals in six league outings. Tonight, the new resolute defence was again on show as Southampton worked tirelessly to stifle the Arsenal threat. Nathaniel Clyne missed out again with a knee problem but he and Jose Fonte are emerging as decent budget options in the light of the new emphasis on keeping things tight.

Going Down

Theo Walcott
While the Gunners man returned the assist for Do Prado’s own goal, Walcott suffered a miserable night back at his former club. Having seen little joy in the lone striker role, he was shifted to a wide role on the introduction of Oliver Giroud. Walcott cut a forlorn figure at the whistle and this was a far cry from the stunning display that helped see off Newcastle at the weekend.

Santi Cazorla
It’s just one assist in three matches now for the playmaker who has found himself dissolve into the background in Fantasy terms, as Walcott has come to the fore. Owners of Cazorla will surely have one eye on the double fixture in Gameweek 23 and hoping for a revival, while tonight’s showing from Walcott will perhaps do little to prompt the straight swap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Outside the obvius wc picks who are you expecting to double rise before the next deadline?

Dzeko, Marveaux, Zaba, Martin and Gibbs?

Looking at transfers in today, the players rising tonight and the spaces I have in my team, I have brought in Marveaux, Azp, Skrtel and Torres with the hope of them double rising. They all play tomorrow which is likely to affect their chances. Dzeko could but he isn't close to a rise at the moment so you don't need to bring him in tonight.

        A limited amount.

For example my midfield is Punch, Walcott, Fellaini, Bale, Santi.

So if I spot a midfeilder that's going to rise twice (say Mata tears it up tomorrow), I can sub him in, keep him for two price rises and make 0.1 even though i can get rid of him before the next deadline.

What people don't consider is that most of your team have added value that dissappears the moment you transfer them out.

So for my example above, say I want to keep Punch, Fell, Walcott and Bale, and i got them all cheaper than they currently are, then the only option i have is to ship Cazorla for Mata.

If you're very unhappy with your team you can make a limited amount before transferring in new players.

Dude, don't mean to be bad but givenn you already have berbatov, walcott, fellaini, RVP etc, who exactly do you figure will rise twice by the next GW???

Also your defence is pretty good so who can you drop there to catch price rises???

i really like your team, don't get the WC at all.

How long can people be patient with him? Lets say he scores next week and gets a clean sheet and 3 bonus points. That's 15 points. But since i'm ditched him i've managed to score 49 points between a combo of Rafa and then Zaba when Rafa got injured. In that period Baines got 20. The cash saved also allowed me upgrade to Mata.

I don't get the he's gonna score big one week mentality.

I would, if you have some big hitters their prices could rise. I think fellainis price will go up easy fixtures, high points hopefully!

Silva to Mata worth it for a hit? My reasoning is, I can see Mata's value rising by £0.3 before next GW making him unaffordable. Would plan to get Silva back in my post-DGW WC. Sound a good plan?

I wonder where Moutinho is likely to play for Spurs. AVB might play him deeper with Sandro and move Dembélé forward, but would people say he is more of a Modric type or VDV?

Yeah of the limited times I have seen him, he is more a Modric type. I just think that our central midfield has been our biggest asset this year; strength, guile and energy. Although I want Moutinho to come, I think he'd be better served as a withdrawn forward
