The win, which saw Demba Ba score twice on his Blues debut, now gives up back-to-back doubles to plan for, with winter wildcards likely to be wielded in substantial numbers ahead of next weekend’s deadline.
Chelsea face a tricky trip to Stoke on Saturday January 12, while Southampton are also on their travels – Nigel Adkins’ side make their way to Villa Park before rolling up to Stamford Bridge the following Wednesday evening.
