Michu climbs off the bench to net yet again for Swansea, while Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski are amongst the goals for the Gunners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Daniel Sturridge is handed a role through the middle and opens his Liverpool account at Mansfield as Luis Suarez adds to his season’s tally with a somewhat dubious strike to seal their progress:

Swansea 2 Arsenal 2
Theo Walcott was shifted back to the flank for the Gunners’ trip to the Liberty, with Olivier Giroud leading the line once again – a concern for Walcott’s owners ahead of double Gameweek 23. Kieran Gibbs continued to impress in attacking terms ahead of the double; the left-back, who has produced three assists in the last four league games, grabbed the visitors’ second, with Giroud supplying the assist, while Lukas Podolski emerged from the bench to notch.

The result means that, if they win their January 16 replay with the Swans, Arsene Wenger’s side will play seven games in 21 days – hardly reassuring for Fantasy managers eyeing up Arsenal’s assets. When asked post-match if his side could cope with the upcoming fixture congestion, Wenger went on to say:

“Today we had four players at home, and I didn’t bring on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin or Tomas Rosicky. Abou Diaby is coming back and if we find one or two on the transfer market, then why not.”

The Arsenal boss also took time to comment on Giroud and Gibbs. Wenger was full of praise for the left-back, who continues to look an assured starter in the XI:

“Kieran Gibbs had an outstanding game. He gets better and better. When you see this kind of game, it’s very positive.”

Giroud, apparently, had an issue with his knee, though his manager alleviated any fears by confirming:

“He has a big scar but I think he should be okay now.”

Michael Laudrup made four changes from the side that drew against Villa last midweek, with Danny Graham leading the line again, as Michu dropped to the bench. Graham vindicated his manager’s decision by notching his third goal in as many games and also supplied the assist for Michu’s goal, after the Spaniard notched within two minutes of climbing off the bench.

Similar to Arsenal, Swansea face a packed schedule over the next few weeks. With Capital One Cup semi-final duties to consider, Laudrup’s side could face eight games in the next 24 days if they win their replay – while rest and rotation will undoubtedly play a part, the Dane revealed Michu’s exclusion from yesterday’s starting line-up was more of a fitness issue – something of a worry, given the upcoming run of fixtures:

“He wasn’t 100 per cent. He picked up an ankle injury in the game against Reading and he also had a slight back problem.”

Mansfield 1 Liverpool 2
Brendan Rodgers made numerous alterations to his first XI for yesterday’s clash. Daniel Sturridge was handed his debut through the centre, with Stewart Downing once again starting for the Reds – Steven Gerrard was omitted from the squad altogether, while Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez were named on the bench. Sturridge made an instant impact by notching the opener, courtesy of a Jonjo Shelvey assist, before making way for Suarez on 55 minutes. The Uruguayan grabbed a controversial second to secure his side’s progress and while Rodgers spent time downplaying Suarez’s handball in the lead up to the goal, his post-match thoughts were also focussed on Sturridge’s contribution:

“I thought he was excellent. He’s nowhere near fit yet, he’s come in off the back of an injury and hasn’t done a lot of training. I think you saw in that cameo today of 55 minutes his pace, his power and he scored a good goal. He probably could have had three goals. It was a good introduction for him, a tough one because Mansfield were very committed. He got his goal and that will give him confidence – he’ll look to keep scoring.”

It’s worth noting that the arrival of Sturridge has done little to quell Fantasy interest interest in Luis Suarez. Sturridge has seen roughly 10% of the transfers in that have gone the way of Suarez with the Uruguayan enjoying over 100,000 transfers in so far in the Gameweek. Rodgers brought us this on his new strike partnership, post-match…

“They can play together, there’s no problem with that. Obviously we want to fit in good players and that’s the most important thing, to keep the squad strong and build up a competitive group. They are both wonderful players, they have both got different strengths but the idea was bringing in players that are multifunctional and can play in a couple of positions and that is what Luis has shown he can do and Daniel also. They are both tactically strong, flexible in their play.”

Can I get a RMWCT - hopefully not too generic?

    Bego / Sorensen
    Azpi / Gibbs / Demel ( Demel / Shorey)
Mata / Bale / Michu / Punch (Walcott)
    RVP Ba Lambert

    £1.2m bank

GW 23 Punch to Noble and Lambert to Sturridge/Dzeko/Berba/Ruiz etc

    Thanking you!

On the Mata v Rvp Captain choice -
How do we know Mata plays 2 games or even close ? Stoke will be tight and Soton could do a qpr on it , whereas
Persie will play 90 and he scores when he wants.

No-one knows with any absolute certainty although the fact that he was only just rested suggests he's in line for a run of consistent starts.

He has been so productive this year that captaining him over two games seems too good to turn down. So much upside despite the gamble.

If he starts Wednesday, in the League Cup, I don't think he'll then start v Southampton. But so many will have him (c), so it would be a mega gamble to go without.

An incredibly one sided argument: another way of looking at it is:

How do we know mata won't bag a few assists and get a monster score like the one he did against NOR and tot? whereas

RVP will score one goal and have a few shots off target resulting in only a 6 pointer

That's why I put it out there , it does seem to be very one sided towards Mata that's why I'm trying to balance it ,
Im not saying that I won't capt Mata - but it's quite feasible Rvp can out score him he is the form player in the league/world at the mo , Hes on fire.

I thought this about RVP last round and c-ed Mata. That went well.... 🙁

Can't really see him outscoring Mata now though, even if Mata is rested-ish vs Soton. Liverpool will be a tight game with few goals I think. Liverpool always raise their game vs United. It's their CL final

Don't know much in the way of IT but it all depends on what you want it for? It sounds like a good gaming monitor but that's it... even though it's full HD 1920x1080. What really counts with high quality monitors is their ability to show colour and contrast. You won't get very close to pro quality with £150 though. My Panasonic 17" monitor cost me £2000 a year ago.

Elo mate. Im tempted im not set up well for either DGW. I see your team very nice. Its either a 4 point hit and go in this week with Puncheon Fonte (if fit) Mata and Azpiwkneccmoe. Leaves me with only Walcott for the following gameweek, probably take another 4 pointer to get Cazorla and Gibbs, no Hammers. Really wanted to save wildcard for end of transfer window. What do you reckon?

i think you can get a decent team by wildcarding and saving the hits. if u have a wildcard i dont see why you should waste points on hits for next two weeks and still not have full coverage.

i wanted to save my wildcard but then thought about it. the players i want in gmwk 24 prices will rise and they have decent fixtures now so might as well wildcard

i had mata punch clyne walcott gibbs o brien and still wildcarded:

the way i saw it was. id end up taking a 8pt hit this week while rivals will wildcard. most likely they will gain more ground using the wildcard and make up to 20pts on me.

if i wildcard, i dont waste any points on hits, get a strong team with dgwk coverage and a good core to keep me going past gmwk 24.

i also catch all the prices while i can afford them

yeh tbh i wouldnt have wildcarded but messed up making the early transfer

                GJ >>> O'brien.

so i would have to take a 8pt hit to bring in chelsea coverage.

my defence was crippled with doubt too:

                o brien
                cuellar

Which combination do you prefer considering the Arsenal DGW 23? Considering that I have Gibbs + Walcott.

    A) Cazorla + Ruiz (mci - benched) + Fellaini (sot)
    B) Bale (MUN) + Podolski/Giroud + Kacaniklic (mci - benched)

If B, then ill get Fellaini in the next week.

Podolski and Caz could both do well or both go missing. Gotta reckon there will be points to be had between two games though.

It's Bale in that swung it for me. Can see him giving the United RB some serious headaches

    Turnbull Jussi
    Gibbs Cameron Shaw Davies Figueroa
    Walcott Bale Mata Fellaini Marveaux
    Ba Lambert RVP

Really need help with the backline.
    Should I go with:

    A) The above
    B) Sagna Evans Shaw Briggs Shorey
    C) Sagna Cameron Cuellar Shaw Wisdom

Not sure to be honest, I don't really follow Chelsea enough to know sorry 🙁 but I'd estimate that they would at least start 1 each, Lampard perhaps less likely to start both.

But I like that planned transfer, Afro has some great fixtures coming up.

    Nelsen, Sagna, Demel, Azpilicueta, Collins

    Mata, Michu, Bale, Walcott, Fellaini

    RVP, Ba, Berbatov

Effective for spotting underperformers who you spend too much money on and forever sit on the bench. Good alternative view on captain choices too. As in any blended statistical model the variances in scores are small so it's all in the interpretation of the outputs. That is, you still need to use your brain and your gut!

I think the boys in the City have this one sewn up for the last fifty years Gink.

      Nice thought though.

I strongly believe that my idea with ff players (see few pages back) is easier to implement.
Afterall, It will only take about 5000 of us to move someone. Then the herd will see the coming rise and follow.
Real shares move with big volumes

    On WC.. dilemma:

    1. Sagna and Fellaini; OR
    2. Gibbs and Nolan

Can't afford Gibbs and Fellaini.. already have 2 West Ham (Jussi and Demel)

      Dilemma indeed.

Sagna and Fellaini... sell Jussi to free cash for Gibbs?

I'm gonna use my free for Silva > Mata (c)

    Would you also do:

    a) Nothing
    b) Federici > Turnbull (-4)
    c) Cuellar > Azpilcueta (-4)
    d) Mignolet & Cuellar > Turnbull and Luiz

Thinking of just doing A at the moment.

Yours doesn't count cos you didn't give it a bracket.

Flynn, yours counts twice as much cos it is in a bracket 😉
