Strikes from Christian Benteke and Gabby Agbonlahor are not enough as the Baggies boing back to rescue a point in midlands derby clash. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A superb turn and an exocet shot that arrowed into Ben Foster’s net, handed Benteke his seventh goal of the season. The Belgian continues to be Paul Lambert’s key player and the sole Fantasy temptation in the Villa squad. With the Newcastle failing back four up next, Benteke’s chances of scoring back-to-back goals looks enticing.

Charles N’Zogbia
A former Fantasy favourite, at times in the first half, the former Latics winger sparkled and showed glimpses of talent that once made him a serious proposition. A brace of assists will immediately re-introduce him to the radar and, having made just his fourth start of the season, N’Zogbia he could yet emerge as a mid-price prospect in a Villa midfield that’s been bereft of Fantasy options.

Chris Brunt
Rather like the Norwich midfield assets, it appears that Brunt has been on a see-saw with James Morrsion as the main source of points for the Baggies in the middle of the park. A second goal in five games promotes Brunt’s stock this time around and arguably helps to oust Morrison as the primary target in Steve Clarke’s midfield.

Going Down

The West Brom Defence
With Gareth McAuley owned by over 8% of Fantasy Premier League managers and Ben Foster claiming over 6%, the Baggies rearguard goes on disappointing. Having started the season with three shut-outs in the opening five fixtures, Clarke’s side have gone six without defensive returns, conceding more than a single goal in their last four. It’s one clean sheet in 13 league outings, although McAuley’s assist for Odemwingie’s equaliser will sweeten that pill for tonight at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I planned on wildcarding this week but my team looks decent for next week so I needn't bother. Anyone disagree with that?

Change all of the defence except for Cameron. Suarez to Sturridge and upgrade Sterling to Fellaini/Bale.
        So not that much really.

All this talk of Fletcher and Sturridge.....

With Evertons fixtures, (WBA, AVL, Man, Nor, REA), has anyone considered Jelavic?

I have Fellaini, but if Everton take care of Southampton this week, I could be tempted to take a shot at Jelavic as a differential!

    Fletcher RVP Jelavic maybe?

Yea but what better way to regain form than smashing Saints on Monday (it is MOnday the match right?)

If he regains form v Saints then its a thought for me. I need to start thinking about big differentials here soon.

I think i will go elsewhere though you are right.

Worth downgrading a P5 to get Baines back in or am I going nuts now???

Baines still has nearly 20% ownership, so not really a differential, and not great value anyway given his price. If you want to go down that route I'd go with Evra

how many of you folks are going with the ultra cheap defence strategy?

my most expensive defender is cameron who i bought at 4.5, and is soon to become wilson, meaning davies will probably be my priciest defender.

this strategy has netted me absolutely crap defensive points these past 5 weeks or so, but my team has done pretty well despite this, i'm around 5k mark.

basically what i'm asking is, are defenders that important in this game at all???

I have had some nice returns from cheaper defenders tbh. Just last week doubling up on Bunn and Martin got me 13! Davies today.

(p.s my low rank is well known around here so save your time).

It's all going to change in the second half of the season imo. City and Utd's defence will have to get their act together sooner or later and should start getting consistent clean sheets.

Many say no, I disagree. As the season wears on, the better teams tend to achieve more cs, already signs of that happening. With many having similar attacking set ups, gains can be made from defenders.

I think the only reactionary one is Fletcher. I briefly only thought about him the other day because Demi owns him. He's gone from forgotten man to seemingly in a lot of WC teams. He's like Lambert: people forget the frustrating blanks when he suddenly starts scoring.

Tempted myself actually !!! Maybe should bring in for Pod

was going to spend four to bring in Aguero but the cheaper options seem to be scoring firly well

Fletch has got good fixtures and Sunderland are improving. Studge was always gonna be a decent pick if he got good game time. Davies is doing a cracking job for me 🙂

They may tighten up by the time he gets back plus he'll probs be down at 3.9 by then.

Worth considering but no point if the current malaise persists

    Any advice on this team?

    Bego, Turnbull
    Gibbs, Nasty, Demel, Nelsen, Cuellar
    Walcott, Mata, Silva, Punch, Sterling
    RVP, Suarez, Berbatov

    0.9m in bank, 1ft

Was thinking Silva -> Bale or Berbatov-> Fletcher.

Yes but do Sturridge and Berba rotate well, or are you planning on benching Michu more or what?

Id lose a p5 if you are gonna go with both Berbs and Sturridge.

Are you wildcarding? If so, why then Rooney??? Upgrade Rooney to RVP and downgrade one of the other two, or one of the P5s for me.

How does this look for a WC Team?

    Begovic Bunn
    Gibbs Davie Demel Harte X
    Mata Bale Walcott Michu Puncheon
    Fletcher RVP Aguero

Where X is a player less then 5.2 million.

How did Sessegnon play today? He seems to be inconsistent no?

If I cant figure out how to fit Fletcher in (want Aguero instead), is Sess worth the risk? Would be for free, and also for a few weeks for Sunderlands fixtures.

They have scored 6 goals in the past two matches. Sunderland........six.......in two.
