Another Wayne Rooney goal, another Robin Van Persie blank – United’s hard-fought victory at the Cottage added further fuel to the fire for Fantasy managers. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
Despite being moved to the left midway through the second-half, the former Everton man secured the points with a calm finish. Having grabbed a double last time out against Southampton, Rooney is staking a real case for consideration either as an alternative or partner for Robin Van Persie in our forward lines and looks a real differential with Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership under 7%. His consistency of late has been staggering – tonight’s goal made it eight in the last six league starts.

Jonny Evans
His return to the starting lineup made an immediate difference at the Cottage. United had registered clean sheets in each of Evans’ previous two appearances – given they had conceded in the last three without him, his calming influence at the back looks to be a major factor. With the assist for Rooney’s goal, Evans looks set to earn FPL bonus points to cap another assured display.

Going Down

Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman has now registered back-to-back blanks – coinciding with Rooney’s return to the starting XI. The Dutchman had produced in each of his previous ten and while there’s no doubting his consistency over the season, many are now contemplating a switch as mini-leagues start to heat up with the quest for differentials becoming a key factor. With a favourable run of fixtures ahead, Van Persie’s owners will be confident of a return to form but Rooney’s kinder 11.8 FPL price tag liberates budget to be utilised elsewhere.

Antonio Valencia
Handed a start on the right in a 4-4-2, the former Wigan man disappointed yet again and was hauled off on 65 minutes. It’s a single assist in 11 appearances now for Valencia and with Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa pushing for game time, he could well return to the periphery once more. Fantasy managers have been deprived of an assured midfield asset in the United squad all season: there is little sign of that situation changing.

Brede Hangeland
Owned by more than 6% of the Fantasy Premier League player base, Hangeland has been a major disappointment so far this season: yet again he’s without a goal and, with just three clean sheets, his return have failed to live up to a pre-season billing which hailed him as a potential bargain. Tonight the Norwegian suffered his latest setback, withdrawn at half-time with a knock, rumoured to be an Achilles problem, which may now make him a doubt for Fulham’s next outing at Norwich.

What are people doing with Aguero? I want to swap to Suarez but Southampton (a) is a great fixture.

Keeping, but then again I also have RVP and Suarez up top so happy to sit on him. His form hasn't been great but surely he will explode with City's next few fixtures.

    Just one question:

I can get in Gerrard for Bale for the double, and get Bale back the next week for free. That'll leave me with 5 DGWers, but means I should get 11 out the next GW without taking a hit for either... The question is, is it worth spending 2 FT's to get Gerrard in and out, if it means i won't have Bale for NEW? Gerrard's stats have been poor since Sturridge came in, but I still think he'll do really well...

As always, many thanks to all in advance!

You never know what you might need your FTs for. 4 DGWers is enough IMO.

Yeah I guess, especially with Clyne and Demel doubts... Just can't resist a big hitter DGW punt, and having 5 decent ones with no hits would be lovely 🙂

OK it's not quite the DZ, but since I'm up and Suarez is rising tonight, I could use some thoughts on my new and exciting DGW plan... I'm just gonna fire it out there...

    GW26 - Gibbs, Podolski & RVP > J.Evans, Sturridge & Suarez (-4)
    GW27 - Sturidge & Michu > RVP/Rooney/Aguero & Sissoko (-4)

I've calculated it, and the Michu downgrade allows me to easily afford RVP back if I wanted him, as well as Rooney/Aguero obviously...

I could also bring in J.Enrique and still afford to bring RVP back in GW27, but I figured I'd rather have Evans for 2 single GWs, rather than risk Enrique playing both in a DGW, with definitely no fixture in GW27... plus I want to retain Evans for the rest of the season... Enrique not so much... as a result, I've completely waived the right to have Pool defensive coverage...

I'd lose 0.4m on RVP by selling, but at this stage in the season I'm happy to take that risk since I've accumulated a decent TV... and it's all about points maximization... I also have a sneaky feeling he might get rested or only play 45-60mins with the UCL fixture in Madrid 3 days later... coupled with a slight loss in scoring form, it seems like a good time to sell and consider new options...

It also allows me to fit in another Pool player who is guaranteed 180mins... something which I wanted...

A bit long of a post at a time like this perhaps, but a quick response on your thoughts regarding this matter would be much appreciated...

    Thanks..

Only game to worry about not having rvp is away to QPR in gw27 , but they will park the bus , they kept man c out

Just thinking about circumnavigating the blank.

One of the strategies I applied last year (around GW24) was focussing on the doubles and trying to "earn" points to then spend on getting 11 for the blank.

So this year I'll have 4 doublers, who's hopefully high scores will give me enough profit to spend on getting out 11 for the blank.

    Hope that makes sense.

so you'll earn points to be able to take a hit to make 11 for the blank...yep am thinking the same...

One free gets you 11 if you only have 4 assuming all 15 are fit.

If you've got 4, you can take one out for free and field 11 (assuming no other injuries).

thinking of doing Mata > Gerrard for the double. Am doubting if he'll start against Wigan now. Then Europa + FA Cup + Europa then away to Man City....who's with me ??

He'll start. Rafa won't do that for an "easy" game again
