Another Wayne Rooney goal, another Robin Van Persie blank – United’s hard-fought victory at the Cottage added further fuel to the fire for Fantasy managers. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Wayne Rooney
Despite being moved to the left midway through the second-half, the former Everton man secured the points with a calm finish. Having grabbed a double last time out against Southampton, Rooney is staking a real case for consideration either as an alternative or partner for Robin Van Persie in our forward lines and looks a real differential with Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership under 7%. His consistency of late has been staggering – tonight’s goal made it eight in the last six league starts.

Jonny Evans
His return to the starting lineup made an immediate difference at the Cottage. United had registered clean sheets in each of Evans’ previous two appearances – given they had conceded in the last three without him, his calming influence at the back looks to be a major factor. With the assist for Rooney’s goal, Evans looks set to earn FPL bonus points to cap another assured display.

Going Down

Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman has now registered back-to-back blanks – coinciding with Rooney’s return to the starting XI. The Dutchman had produced in each of his previous ten and while there’s no doubting his consistency over the season, many are now contemplating a switch as mini-leagues start to heat up with the quest for differentials becoming a key factor. With a favourable run of fixtures ahead, Van Persie’s owners will be confident of a return to form but Rooney’s kinder 11.8 FPL price tag liberates budget to be utilised elsewhere.

Antonio Valencia
Handed a start on the right in a 4-4-2, the former Wigan man disappointed yet again and was hauled off on 65 minutes. It’s a single assist in 11 appearances now for Valencia and with Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa pushing for game time, he could well return to the periphery once more. Fantasy managers have been deprived of an assured midfield asset in the United squad all season: there is little sign of that situation changing.

Brede Hangeland
Owned by more than 6% of the Fantasy Premier League player base, Hangeland has been a major disappointment so far this season: yet again he’s without a goal and, with just three clean sheets, his return have failed to live up to a pre-season billing which hailed him as a potential bargain. Tonight the Norwegian suffered his latest setback, withdrawn at half-time with a knock, rumoured to be an Achilles problem, which may now make him a doubt for Fulham’s next outing at Norwich.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

How many points would you take as a hit before considering using a WC?

If, around FA cup semi-final time, we have a bumper DGW I imagine an unused WC could be worth a lot of points, but I may have to take an 8pt hit even to field 10 players in GW27 (damn you Demel and Guthrie!)

Thanks Acqua - so I was forced to field 9 players this GW and, with 3 DGW players, this could escalate for GW27. In your opinion, worth WC'ing to be absolutely sure of fielding 11 that week? Otherwise I'm at the mercy of Big Sam, Rafa and McDermott's rotations...

keep tinkering that myself, have gibbs, demel and clyne + no suarez

wc now - prob not wise
wc gw27 - may have to do it
if I don't use my wc in those weeks, I'll prob take -12 hits in two weeks

Cheers Butters. Interesting you seem to disprove the myth that you can't get a decent rank if taking hits. I might just look at a 12pt hit strategy and see if that can get me out of this mess.

Cabaye usually just ahead of Tiote in the 4-4-2,

Or as one of two further forward mids in the 4-3-3

So Cabaye's advantage has never been that he plays that high up

I'd appreciate your advice guys...having trouble with my decision for dgwk, not sure if I should change my midfield or not. I have 2 FT. Thinking after dgwk of doing Michu > Sissokho

    Bunn Federici
    Rafael Davies Cameron RMartin Demel
    Walcott Bale Fellaini Michu Mata
    RVP Fletcher Pog

    a) RVP Fletcher > Suarez Sturridge free
    b) Walcott Fletcher > Gerrard Sturridge free
    c) Bale Fletcher > Gerrard Sturridge free
    d) Walcott Fellaini/Bale Fletcher > Gerrard Suarez Walters/Kebe -4pts.

    Thanks!

chronic, do you just think Arsenal will get the usual slice of luck to pip us to 4th? I have to say i am worried about it but at the same time like i said, if we can keep a 4 point lead or more on Arsenal before the game at the lane then i think we can and will do it.

RVP to suarez should work out well for guys struggling with funds -

will rvp start vs everton 75% chance starting with midweek friendly and real midweek next
    gw27 - qpr away - tough
gw 28 - norwich home - rested almost guaranteed 3 days later play madrid, not captain worth anyway catch casuals out
gw 29 - west ham away - another fairly tough game
gw 30 - reading (home) but if they go through in champs league prob wont be worth getting him then either

Yeah not having him is killing me a bit; slightly tempted by Fellaini -> Sissoko and Michu -> Mata at some point soon, although Fellaini's 2 goals have obviously put me off that a bit.

i think man city will be very hard to break down at home, so prob a draw or a low score win......however gerrards home form is fantastic and hes got 2 decent home games in the dgw...itl prob end in tears
