With the Fantasy Premier League community given an airing in yesterday’s article, we now turn to the Sky Sports game – Granville’s current favourite Fantasy pursuit. The Mancunian closed on my lead in the Scout League but both of us are looking up at the very top, where we herald another new leader – one we predicted just seven days ago.

The Scout League

We discussed the rise of Pascal Evans in last week’s article and, a week later, our prophecy has come true. The manager currently sitting on second in the live Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame and fifth in the Career table, has climbed to the summit of our Sky Sports league. Pascal sits on 1488 points, with a four point advantage on Simon Davies “Nags Head Rovers” in second. Paul McAnulty’s “Housewives Favourites” sit in third on 1481 points.

Pascal is ranked fifth in the overall table, some 91 points behind the leader, however, having picked up momemtum in recent weeks, we wouldn’t bet against him closing that gap to set up a close finish in the race for the 25k prize. Pascal has been here and done it before.

With seven managers in the overall top twenty, the Scout League remains on top of the private league rankings, still some 13 points ahead of our nearest rival.

In terms of the contributor standings, I’m still leading the way in 411 spot, 75th in the Scout League, but I’m now just a single point ahead of Granville, who closed with a strong score last week, thanks to an inspired Moussa Sissoko transfer.

A reminder that if you’re playing the Sky Sports game and have yet to join our league, you can sign up to the FFScout League with this Pin: 8004519. We have a home cinema system, worth £600, available to the winner.

Market Forces

Luis Suarez has been the most popular signing in the Sky Sports game this week: the Uruguayan has featured in over 25% of the transfers in over the past seven days, continuing his steady climb in ownership. That’s perhaps a surprise with Daniel Sturridge emerging as a force in the Liverpool frontline, although, clearly, Suarez is much fancied for the impending home matches with West Brom this Monday and Swansea a week on Sunday.

Liverpool and Swansea are, of course, the only sides to play in that particular Gameweek so fetching their assets prior to that fixture makes good sense, with Suarez likely to be a popular choice for the armband. He still sits at the very top of the value rankings for forwards in the game – offering 18.5 points per million over the season so far – Robert Snodgrass (17.9) and Rickie Lambert (17.7) trail him in second and third.

Goalkeepers continue to dominate the market trends with lots of activity surrounding the trio of Joe Hart, Asmir Begovic and Simon Mignolet. It appears that many Fantasy managers are constantly looking to change their stopper, with clean sheets the only method of scoring on offer. Hart has enjoyed the most traffic this week, acquired in over 22% of the total transfers made. Begovic and Mignolet have been fetched as part of 19% of transfers, although the Stoke keeper again suffered a loss of ownership, with more managers choosing to transfer him out over the week following his recent run of poor form.

Petr Cech was the player to suffer the most sales, however. The Chelsea keeper was an injury doubt earlier in the week having broken a finger and was shipped out as part of 27% of the transfers made this week. Cech is available for Chelsea’s meeting with Wigan this weekend, however.

Robin Van Persie, off the back of two consecutive blanks, also suffered losses this week- 23% of the transfers made saw the Dutchman cast aside, with Suarez the player most likely to profit from the switch. Jermain Defoe’s injury also saw him sold on by many of his remaining owners, while Eden Hazard still earned losses, with 19% of the transfers made this week seeing the Belgian making way. Hazard makes a return to the Chelsea fold following suspension this weekend.

The Fantasy Football Club – Tonight 10pm

John Barnes shuffles into the Fantasy Football Club dressing room to join the squad for the rest of the season. I just wonder if we’re get a chance to see “that” goal from Rio in 1984? Barnes joins Fenners and Merse at 10pm tonight on Sky Sports one, a show that also features Alex McLeish dishing out his all-time XI based on players that he’s managed. I somehow doubt that any Forest players made it: let’s be honest, he barely had time to learn their names.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Here's my dilemma;
    I have Guthrie, Hughes and Jones who I need to get rid off before gw 27 to be able to play 11 players. I have two free transfers this week and with the one next week I should be fine. But this plan does not include any dgw-players. Those three would be swapped for the likes of Clyne, Shaw, Hill, Onouha, Figueroa, Noble etc etc.
    But instead I could sell Jones and Begovic this week, and get a cheap defender and Reina for free this week, and then swap Hughes for a cheap defender the week after. But then I need Guthrie to play to get 11 players. And I also have dawson, who is not nailed on either. And if you take into account that injuries and suspention may occur, or rotation, and that there is a cup round to be played before gw 27, maybe I should just play Begovic and be happy with Sturridge, Michu and Davies?
    This is really doing my head in, and as I sit here at London Natural and History Museum, I should be out there watcing dinosaurs instead of in the cafe because of the free wi-fi....! Please help!

      I admire your complete shunning of a fabulous place to concentrate on the addiction from which we all suffer.
      Stick with Begovic mate and make do with the Michu Davies and Sturridge.

      I don't know much about Jones at West Brom, but I'll assume for the purposes of this that he will play and Hughes won't.

      I'd do Aguero --> Suarez and have 2 FT next week.

      The following week I'd be looking at something like:

      Michu & Hughes --> Sissoko & Santon... as Newcastle have a nice fixture and another nice fixture in GW29 when a few teams have a blank. If it looks like guthrie won't play, you can always go Guthrie --> Kebe for a hit leaving you with a good xi in 27. It'll be strange benching 2 Liverpool strikers but it's no worse than benching Suarez & Gerrard which many will do. Could always look at Cisse as the strikers option for Suarez and keep Michu if that appeals more.

        Cheers, guys. I forgot to say that I play by two rules; never do hits and never have two players from the same team in the same section (defense/midfield/attack) on the pitch....

      In your circumstances my advice would be to ignore the dgw and the blank and sort your squad out for the long term. If you can do so in a way which gives you good fixtures over these two gws, all the better.

      Don't ignore Liverpool. Their fixtures over the next two are among the best - home to QPR & Swansea are appealing fixtures regardless.

    Cheeky repost of a mischievous idea. The talk so far has been how users' posts will be rated. What if articles were treated as posts that could also be rated and affect author rep? There would be ugly scenes amongst the authors as they fought their way to the top! Proper Anchorman style stunts.

    Nothing good could come of this...

      Yes, Bertrand's versatility in being a Def that can play OOP is also his downfall in that when he is on the bench there is more chance of him coming on for a 5 minute single pointer.

      I suppose the problem is plucking up the nerve to captain him too, we got stung putting him in the picks a few weeks ago and him not starting - for that kind of cash I want a bit more certainty in terms of minutes.

        Exactly, and he could have had 2 or 3 at QPR. My point is, when he clicks, I want to be there, so it's all about going with your gut. Though with alternatives £3m cheaper in Giroud and Sturridge, it's a big risk. Could cost you going with Cuellar instead of Baines. Food for thought!

          I've kept him and sold RVP for Suarez. Yaya back will only help City as Aguero seems to be coming deep alot and then having to dribble many yards, which is something Yaya does consistently. Add to that City's plight...it's do or die for them from now.

    Is it worth losing .2 value in Walcott to bring Gerrard in for this gameweek, only to potentially switch back to Walcott next week? I have Sturridge, but can't afford Suarez. I could also just bring Fellaini in for Marveaux, but I'd like to have two Pool players.

        RVP is for good there and Kun and Rooney will be rotated. I don't see any team scoring that much as Utd, Simple as that. Also I might captain Rooney/ Kun from time to time. City play Chelsea, Liv has blank. There isn't better option IMO

    Repost:
    About the “DGW”:

    I’m not averse to taking hits – even up to 8pt hits.

    I’ve used my free transfer(s) this week and last to build a squad with 6 DGW-ers in. In order to get 3 of them out it would be a 8pt hit – but if I get my selections right, I get an extra 2 x 7 (6 DGW players, one is captain) = 14 points from my DGWers, so it works out 6 points profitable before anyone gets any more points. Even considering just the 3 I need to transfer out to field 11 next week, it still costs me 8 points to get minumum 6 back – and most likely more.

    tl;dr

    6 DGWers = 8 point hit to fix for 11 playing in GW27;
    The extra 3 DGWers get me 6 points minumum;
    Worth the 2 point gamble.
