Talking of resting players I can remember the Liverpool team of the 70's and early 80's when we saw the same 11 or 12 players every single game all season. What changed???

Aye it's a tough life! Ninety minutes every 7 days isn't a lot to ask. Pace of game is a weak reason. To be fair it's Rafa that annoys me the most. He seems intent on destroying good runs and solid teams through his rotations.
The pace of the game is much faster, and there are fewer chances to have a breather (no pass-back rule then).

I remember some impressive stats a few years back showing how many players a team had used over the season. The number used reflected the final league positions almost exactly with the teams using fewest players at the top.
I guess it's partly explained by the fact that losing teams keep trying something new but mostly demonstrates the strength of a settled team in my opinion.
