[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

After a festive hiatus, this renaissance of tightrope fare comes to you from a departure lounge in Vienna, proving once and for all that while we may not travel to the ends of the earth for you here at the Scout, we will at least go well out of our way to ensure we’ve got your back – even if you might be one of the seven managers who brought in Fabian Delph last week.

With nine yellow cards in just a shade over 1500 minutes of football this season, including four in eight cup appearances for Aston Villa, Delph now stands alone atop the booking charts and is the first player to taste the home comforts of the second suspension tightrope. The sanction for 10 yellow cards received prior to the second Sunday in April (or Gameweek 33 to you and me), is now set at a two-match suspension – so Delph now faces a hard task to navigate the six remaining fixtures without troubling the referee.

Further down the list on eight yellows a heavyweight triumvirate lurk in the shadows of the sidebar widget – David Luiz, Marouane Fellaini and Luis Suárez all just a couple of bookings from a ban alongside Paul Scholes, Craig Gardner, James Perch and a couple of new faces in the shape of Delph’s teammate Matthew Lowton and Chelsea’s Brazilian midfielder, Ramires.

On to the suspensions, and with West Brom’s Goran Popov set to serve the last of a three-match ban (Gameweeks 26-28) for spitting at Kyle Walker, another Eastern European import joins him this week for an act of petulance. Pavel Pogrebnyak, attractively priced at 4.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game and resident on the benches of over 200,000 teams, was unilaterally called into action this week amongst squads stretched by the excesses of Gameweek 26. The Russian’s straight red card for a kick at Maynor Figueroa and the -2pts delivered are only the tip of the painful iceberg as a three-match ban immediately ensues, taking in the testing times of Gameweeks 28, 29 and 30. There’s not many alternatives at that price I’m afraid.

** A late addition to the article comes after the FA announced they have charged Robert Huth with violent conduct in relation to an incident involving Philippe Senderos during Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Fulham. The Stoke centre-half has until 6pm this evening but now looks set to miss the following three Gameweeks against West Ham, Newcastle and West Brom.

I currently have Aguero RVP Sturridge. If I ship RVP out, I guess I could opt for Lambert and upgrade Guthrie to Bale.

Do we have official confirmation on GW29 blanks yet?

given I have a wc left with which to bring him back, and I have Sturrudge, best striker to replace RvP with given he is looking at 2 straight blank weeks given he won’t play v Norwich and looks like having a blank GW29

Cisse looks interesting but I’m looking at getting Sissoko next week. Is there any other option bar Suarez since Lukaku also has a blank this week?

      Hi JK,

I've got very similar options to you at the moment, i.e. RVP in the team, WC in the bank etc...

I think I'm going to go for Suarez, and double him up with Sturridge for a few weeks. This will allow me the funds to also upgrade Taarabt to Bale for a -4 hit.

I will then consider RVP back in when the WC comes around.

Main thing for me is that I keep the WC for these potential DGW, which could make or break my season and mini leagues. I have to play them correctly and the WC will be crucial to that.

It means Man U will definitely play either Chelsea or Middlesborough on Sun 10th in the FA Cup. Also means Chelsea might have to play 4 games in 8 dyas (Sat, Mon, Thurs, Sun) which would imply a frenzy of Benitez rotation 🙂

Doesn't change the date/time.. it's just genuinely THE only time it can possibly be played in line with FA guidelines. Imagine Chelsea would play a weakened team in the potential replay.

Can't see them putting it back 3 hours at 2 days notice, with West Brom fans presumably booked onto trains etc. Would still give them over 48 hours until the replay but we're probably having a pointless debate as Moses, Torres & Co will likely have too much for the Boro anyway.

If they were going to call it off, surely they'd then play the replay on the weekend, rather than the Monday.

The worst that could happen is move it to 12pm on the Saturday which is far-fetched at best but if anything, would be good news for some pre-deadline action.

It's a VERY important game. We will field the strongest side available, and we have no injured players. The only change is Pinto in place of Valdes in goal, as he plays cup games. I don't know what your bet is on, but I will tell you that it won't be a 0-0 draw and Barca will need to win to advance, so I like our chances 😀

A question for people who are, like myself, considering doing RVP > Suarez this week.

Does the fact that Suarez is going up tonight and RVP most probably going down tomorrow make you want to do the deed today? Or are you waiting till the end if the week for some confirmation on what's going on, even though it will affect your selling/buying price?

I'm waiting. The reason I'm considering selling RVP is that if he has two blanks I think selling him is the best way to maximize my points. Unless you think losing .1 or .2 is going to make it difficult for you to get RVP back later, I think making a move early is too risky.

hmm so Lambert going up tonight, Suarez getting close, too much to go in to next week with Suarez, Lambert, Sturridge AND the Mag 5, even for 1 week is too much, I mean who do you bench this week?

Could just sell Pog to ALF or another striker for 5.2 and bench RvP?

I am thinking about getting rid of Jan Vertonghen he is proving not to be good value for money i am also considering dumping RVP and Pogrebnyak but for who?

    Pogrebnyak sell value 4.3
    Jan Vertonghen sell value 6.3
    RVP sell value 13.5
    In the bank 0.2
    Total 24.3m to spend

Can i get suggestions for 2 strikers and a defender please?

Interesting article on the Bale machine

140ShareFacebookTwitter.print..Gareth Bale: From Spurs jinx to 'world class' performer
By Jeremy Butler & Chris McKenna
BBC Sport Comments (237) "An inspiration", "world class" and "player of the year". After scoring two goals in the victory over West Ham on Monday, it is no wonder Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas talks about his standout performer Gareth Bale in such glowing terms.

The Welshman has risen to new heights this season with several stunning goals, big-match winners and breath-taking displays.

So much so he is now heavily linked with moves to the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, with transfer fees of more than £50m mooted.

But life has not always been so rosy for the 23-year-old, who was once seen as a jinx at Tottenham and even reportedly linked with a £3m move to Birmingham City.

Here is a look at the rise of the Cardiff-born attacker.

    The early days
Bale was spotted by Southampton scout Rod Ruddick at the age of nine playing in a five-a-side tournament for his local club, Cardiff Civil Service.

    Bale's career so far
    •Born: Cardiff, 16 July 1989
    •April 2006: Makes Southampton debut v Millwall aged 16.
•August 2006: Scores first league goal v Derby
•May 2006: Makes debut for Wales v Trinidad and Tobago to become his country's youngest-ever international
•May 2007: Joins Tottenham in deal worth £5m reportedly rising to £10m
•August 2007: Makes Tottenham debut v Manchester United. Spurs lose 1-0
•September 2009: Tottenham win first game with Bale in their side with 5-0 victory over Burnley
•October 2010: Scores hat-trick v Inter Milan at San Siro in 4-3 defeat
•December 2012: Scores first Premier League hat-trick v Aston Villa
He started training at the club's satellite academy in Bath but travelled to Southampton at 14 for more intensive training. At that age, he could run the 100m in 11.4 seconds.

A year later, the south coast club contemplated releasing him as they were worried he would not grow enough to make it in professional football.

But a growth spurt allayed those fears and he made his debut as a left-back in the 2-0 win against Millwall on 17 April, 2006. Aged just 16 years and 275 days, he became the second-youngest player to turn out for the club's first team.

Southampton rejected a bid of £10m for Bale, believed to be from Manchester United, in January 2007, with George Burley, manager of Saints at the time, asking if that money was "for his left foot or right foot?".

Bale was then named Football League Young Player of the Year in March 2007, finishing the season with five goals from 45 games.

    Early struggles
Having moved to Tottenham as a left-back for a fee that could potentially rise to £10m, big things were expected of Bale at White Hart Lane.

But, amazingly, the Premier League side failed to register a win in his first 24 appearances, leading some journalists to question whether Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was right to select him.

The Sun's Pat Sheehan covered Tottenham's 1-0 defeat by Everton on 30 November, 2008. He wrote: "One glance at the score and any Spurs fan will tell you without looking at the line-up that Gareth Bale must have played."

A foot injury and a knee ligament problem also hampered Bale's development, keeping him sidelined for a large part of his first two years at White Hart Lane.

The Daily Mail even linked Bale with a £3m move to Birmingham.

Bale was still not sure of his best position, having arrived as a defender but showing potential going forward. Redknapp believed he should remain at the back, saying in December 2009: "I'm not looking for a left-back because you won't get a better one than Gareth Bale."

    Turning the corner
After undergoing knee surgery in June 2009, Bale broke his hoodoo in his first game back by playing as a left-back in a 5-0 defeat of Burnley.

“He has everything to be a top player. He has to learn how to defend, learn how not to let people play balls inside him, learn to recover, just learn parts of his game. But it's all there.

    Harry Redknapp, December 2008
Within months, rumours of a bid from Manchester United began to surface, although Redknapp quickly dismissed the notion of selling the Welshman.

"His game has gone up so many levels this season," said Redknapp. "He's got stronger, he's a fantastic athlete, great ability. He can do everything."

Bale made 18 starts that season, scoring three goals. He then played a starring role in Tottenham's Champions League campaign the following season, after stepping into a new left-sided midfield role.

His hat-trick against Inter Milan in October 2010 confirmed his status as one of Europe's top stars.

    Bale in numbers this season
Bale's goals in the 3-2 win over West Ham took his tally to eight goals in his last six games and he is now widely regarded as one of the Premier League's top performers.
Manchster United's Robin van Persie and Liverpool's Luis Suarez lead the scoring charts in the Premier League on 19 and 18 goals respectively but Bale, not a striker like his counterparts, is not far behind on 15. Two of those goals have come from direct free-kicks.
The Tottenham player has had more shots on target - 51 - than both Van Persie and Suarez, while his shooting accuracy of 57% betters both the Dutchman and Uruguayan.
Bale has a chance conversion rate of 17% but has only notched one assist in the league so far this term.
The Welshman has made 791 passes with a success rate of 78%, while he has completed 45% of his dribbles and runs this term

If City blank is OFF(moved to mid-week):
RVP+Podolski ➡ Aguero+Suarez (can get back RVP for free)

    Is City blank is ON:
    A) Podolski ➡ Suarez (Play RVP -- or if City game is ON in 29, get Aguero)

    or

    B) Podolski+Schneiderlin ➡ Sturridge+Sissoko(-4) (Bench RVP)

Which do you guys suggest for the latter option, if City blank remains in GW29?

Tough one. I would do A) and then you have to decide whether to play RvP or Schneiderlin 😀 RvP likely won't get ANY playtime so you will end up playing Schneiderlin anyway.

yes, and that is the problem, I would need to get a cheap mid instead of Sissoko as I don't think Lambert is rotation worthy. Maybe as a short-term punt Fletcher is better.
