City grind out a victory, with Carlos Tevez providing the vital strike and the City back four keeping a struggling Villa at bay for another clean sheet. Here’s the Stock Check from Monday’s events…

On the Up

Carlos Tevez
Drafted into the side with Sergio Aguero missing out with a training ground injury, Tevez took his opportunity once again, adding to his goal last time out against Chelsea with tonight’s winner. Despite such form, Tevez could still find himself back on the bench when City are next in league action at Everton in Gameweek 30 with Roberto Mancini perhaps destined to continue with the 4-5-1 formation.

The City Defence
A second consecutive clean sheet made it six shutouts in the last eight league outings – clearly Mancini’s side are having little trouble defending of late, with creativity and goalscoring their main issue. Pablo Zabaleta remains the mainstay and key Fantasy target in the Citizen’s rearguard – the Argentine has started the last 16 league matches, earning two goals and two assists to accompany nine clean sheets in that spell. Matija Nastasic has also returned to fray to keep consecutive clean sheets, providing a cheaper route into a City defence which has now kept 13 shutouts in total.

Going Down

Sergio Aguero
The Argentine was set to go into tonight’s game without a goal in his last two but with his owners expecting a turn of fortunes, given the opposition. A training ground injury, confirmed by City and the player himself as a knee problem, scuppered his night, however. It’s not clear just how serious the setback is, although local press claims on Twitter state that he will also miss the FA Cup tie with Barnsley. With a two week break, however, Aguero will perhaps be expected to be in the frame for a return when City resume at Everton in Gameweek 30. That’s unlikely to prevent heavy sales given the forthcoming blank this weekend.

David Silva
It’s now five league matches without a goal for the Spanish playmaker, having scored in just one game out of the last 16 starts. That kind of record has seen Silva plummet in the midfield pecking order as the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale and Juan Mata have enjoyed consistent periods of scoring. While his 11 assists are impressive, it’s difficult to think of Silva as a heavy-hitter with a price drop beckoning next season.

Charles N’Zogbia
Having fetched return in four of his last four matches, N’Zogbia was ineffective this evening and was eventually hauled off on the hour-mark. His start at Reading next weekend could now be in question.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

HVT, could you do me a favour if you have time. I have double and triple checked the simpli-special spreadsheet and I am fairly certain that I am the one that is facing you next game. I think Ginkapo has miscalculated my opponent's score. Could you check it, to hopefully confirm that I am not confused? 🙂

And I would probably ditch Mata...

      Cheers mate!

    Bunn
    GJ Davies Harte Wilson (Distin)
    Bale Siss (Mata Walcott Fell)
    Suarez Studge (Kun)

    Which options is best?
    A. Save FT (8 or 9 players depends on Studge)
    B. Use FT for Kun to Benteke (9 or 10 players)
    C. -4 to take out Kun & Distin for Benteke & Turner/Santon (10 or 11 players)

I am leaning towards C at the moment because at a cost of -4, I can field 2 more players who will play 90minutes and have points potential (goals or CS). Based on what I read here, it's looking unlikely DGWs will happen in the near term (1-3 weeks), therefore I will have time and FTs to accumulate DGW players. Agree?

No point speculating on the 5th mid position when there are blanks and DGWs to negotiate.

He always comes on as a sub even if he doesn't start anyway and his upside is a lot higher than his peers in the same price bracket IMO

Seeing it's a bit quiet atm.

For the FPL Open/Elite 64 is have a penalty of -11.5 points for a lower seed using their WC over a higher seed regardless of DGW or SGW.

    In your opinion is this

    a) fair
    b) unfair, how much should it be?

Higher seed stands no chance of winning if lower seed uses WC well. Higher seed has no penalty as they are ranked higher without using it in the 1st place.

But isn't it a H2H thing, so why does ranking matter? As you say it's a massive advantage so it seems harsh to me not to penalise the higher seed at all. I'm probably not joining anyway as I don't need the distraction, but I'd be pretty peeved if someone a couple of ranks higher than me pulled the wildcard out, especially on a DGw for example, and there was no penalty for it.

If they are seeded higher then they shouldn't get penalised. Good management got them to the stage where their rank was better without a WC. Luck of the draw in H2H & don't think too many would still have theirs. Pretend Evs #1 seed atm still had his WC which he was forced to use recently. He wouldn't deserve a penalty. Lower seed can prepare solely for the GW with the WC which has to be a massive advantage. Higher seed always has the option to take a hit if it's beneficial. Most are concentrating on rank over who they are playing in the FPL Open in most cases.

I reckon you'll be able to field 6 or 7.

In terms of deadwood, you have Turnbull and Onuoha, plus potentially Demel, Shaw and Taarabt.

If you were to put together your ideal team this week, how many DGWers could you have (including the transfers from now until GW33)?

Wildcard i'd say. Get three or four big hitters that aren't playing in preparation for the doubles (the likes of RVP, Zab, Fellaini) so you're not screwed when you get to them.

So ultimately it looks like the Daniel Sturridge injury and subsequent Suarez hattrick has put a serious nail in the coffin of my charge at the Fpl tite 🙁

Upside; I remain the highest ranked player in the world with a wildcard. And given the runaway leader,I'm only 30 points off second place, and then you never know! If there was one than player 50 points ahead of me I would say it was all over.

Repost as I need the help!

2nd season playing this, 1st paying any real attention to it!

Have used my free transfer. Have £0.4 in the bank.

    Team for this week:

    Federici

    Bassong Davies Clyne

    Sissoko Walcott Bale Gerrard

    Suarez Sturridge Lambert

    Subs
    de Gea. Mata. Evra. Zabaleta

Am thinking of maybe trading Fed (for Bunn?) if he isn't playing.

Any other thoughts? 10 playing (if I include fed) which seems okay if I'm looking at other comments on here.

Any suggestions for next week also welcome.

    Thanks!

Yep, I had RVP for ages but cut him a while back when his form / rotation / etc looked less exciting. Brought Suarez in instead.

In theory, although someone more knowledgable than I might be able to tell you the obstacles to rescheduling matches in certain weeks. In theory City and United could still have their matches rescheduled within GW29, so we just have to wait for news.

I'll just have to transfer him out again when Utd go out.

Also, I suspect that the "We know Real will score, we have to attack" is Fergie mind games to put Real on the back foot. If Utd park the bus and get a 0-0 they go through.
