Friday evening’s final article sees us pick our way through the weekend’s depleted schedule to highlight another trio of overlooked alternatives. Our headline act has hit the ground running since arriving from Serie A in the winter transfer window, while the remaining couple of protagonists have crucial home battles on their respective agendas tomorrow afternoon.

Philippe Coutinho

While he’s been somewhat overshadowed by the exploits of fellow Anfield new boy Daniel Sturridge, the Brazilian is starting to look a canny acquisition. Whether in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, Coutinho is flourishing on the left for Liverpool and, having grabbed a goal in the 5-0 win over Swansea on his home debut, followed that up with a pair of impressive assists in last Saturday’s romp at Wigan.

Fantasy managers have been suitably impressed. Coutinho’s mid-price appeal has already persuaded over 38,000 to snap up his services in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game – making him the fourth most popular midfielder this week, with his price rising from 6.5 to 6.6 as a result of his recent endeavours. Brendan Rodgers has been quick to laud his displays, too. While admitting the 20-year-old is currently “up to 65 to 70 minutes” as he builds his fitness, the Reds boss enthused:

“He’s adapted and fit in very well. He’s a very talented young player who is a wonderful technician. Tactically, he participates in the game well and understands this way of working and playing.”

With Rodgers limiting Raheem Sterling’s game time due to concerns over fatigue, Coutinho certainly looks to have the platform to establish himself in the Reds’ first XI from here on in. Knocked out of the FA Cup and now devoid of European duties, Liverpool can now focus fully on the league and are set for a superb run of fixtures that could boost their chances of a strong finish in Rodgers’ first season in charge. While a home clash with Tottenham is tough to call, the following four fixtures sees them travel to three of the current bottom five (sou, avl, rea) and with a home clash against West Ham also on the agenda, Coutinho (who comes in at just 5.5 in the Sky Sports game) looks a real differential for this weekend and beyond.

Adam Le Fondre

A three-match ban for Pavel Pogrebnyak has afforded Reading’s “super sub” the chance to prove himself in the first-team. Having notched each of his last six goals after climbing off the bench, the diminutive forward was handed his first start since Gameweek 16 last weekend as Brian McDermott shifted to 4-4-2 as a result of the Russian’s absence.

With Pogrebnyak still sidelined for two more fixtures, Le Fondre’s starting berth looks secure in the short-term – while a trip to Old Trafford next weekend is hardly enticing, a home clash with fellow strugglers Villa could appeal to Fantasy managers looking for a one week punt for Gameweek 29. A win for the Royals at the Madejski would take them above their midlands rivals and could, potentially, see them scramble out the bottom three before they pay visit to United and Arsenal in back-to-back Gameweeks – all the more incentive for McDermott’s side to produce, then, before the schedule turns nasty.

Priced at just 5.0 in FPL and 6.5 in the Sky Sports game, the stage seems set in this proverbial six-pointer for Le Fondre to stake his claim for a regular starting berth and help fire the Royals to safety.

Junior Hoilett

It’s not been the best of seasons for the former Blackburn man so far. Having opted for QPR over Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, Hoilett has cut a peripheral figure for the Loftus Road outfit, with hamstring injuries scuppering much of his campaign. Finally recovered from the problems, the Canadian was handed his first start under Harry Redknapp last weekend, taking up a spot on the left flank as Adel Taarabt unexpectedly dropped out.

The decision proved decisive, though. Hoilett played a pivotal part as the R’s won for the first time in seven – providing an assist for Loic Remy’s opener, he also picked up a single FPL bonus point for a display that bristled with both industry and creative endeavour. Compared to the Moroccan’s somewhat lacklustre approach, Hoilett’s work-rate may well have helped cement a starting berth for tomorrow’s crucial home clash with Sunderland as Redknapp looks to engineer back-to-back victories for the first time this term.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.1 in the Sky Sports game, Hoilett also has games against Villa, Fulham and Wigan in the following three and could well be primed to produce if Redknapp keeps faith in his abilities.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Seeing you are 16K, you probably won't qualify for any.
The 1st two are the same as the FPL Cup or the FFS Cup on here.
The 3rd is a knockout comp which you got knocked out last week in with a GW rank of 1,024,811

Can you really use the captain's poll this week like other weeks?

Suarez and Bale were always going to be the template captains...because they're owned by so many. By virtue of them being so vastly owned they are inevitably the ones at the top of the poll.

But much less people own the other candidates...and this week is an odd week. You can't really say that there's a no-brainer captain, can you?

Although who am I to say that Suarez isn't one of them?

You're right, everyone tends to vote for their own player, so low ownership players get less votes. If you had £100 to place on an anytime goalscorer, who would you put it on?

2 FTs, lots in the bank and 8 playing. Already spent one on Giroud > Suarez which was a bit of a no brainer. Thinking of two more to get me to eleven for a hit - Fellaini > Sissoko looks like the standout option. That just leaves me trying to decide who to replace Anichebe with - Benteke, Remy or Lukaku. Leaning towards Benteke...

Well, I got Remy in for 2 reasons - better over the next 6, IMO, and I can afford to get RVP in for Fletcher next week too.

Not gonna lie, I'm concerned about Benteke, but a part of me is convinced that Villa are woeful going forward. Although Reading are woeful at the back, so this is negated somewhat.

Yeah Remy's reduced price has swayed a lot of people. Letting you get RVP back is a very significant sell. He could be terrific value.

It's his high number of goals from few shots that makes me unsure - would prefer to play the numbers myself. Even that isn't very clear, Benteke and Lukaku are similar but Lukaku's per minute stats are considerably superior...

If all 3 of them were sub 6.0m, I'd have had a real problem on my hands! If they were ... I think I'd possibly have gone with Benteke, although I've been wanting to take a punt on Remy since he signed.

It's frustrating that a player like Lukaku can rack up such impressive points per minute but it never seems the right time to get him. I really can't justify getting him in for a home game against Swansea, followed by away trips to the Britannia, Upton Park and a home game with Arsenal.

I guess by elimination that leaves Benteke since Remy's been converting shots at a seemingly unsustainable rate.

Alreet lads. Ice cream season is upon us here in China, so I have been super busy at work, meaning I have hardly had the chance to keep up with the articles in here, never mind post. What have I missed?

Who's the flavour of the month for a 5th mid? Needs to play this week. I don't mind paying up to say 6.5m to have an option I would be happy to count on when I have injuries. I'm thinking Snodgrass. Or do we think that Hoilett will keep his place? N'Zogbia? Anyone else?

N'Zogbia and Snodgrass seem the flavourest of the month... think there might be some serious upside in the Zog, though his subbing off for Holman in the final third against City didn't really encourage me. Still it was City.

So here's the play and I'd welcome views. Taking a 16 point hit this week as I only have 6 starters and that gets me a full XI (recently moved to Nepal, so taken my eye off the ball and not planned for GW29). Check my history and you'll see I'm consistently in the top 1000 so no mug.

The thinking is that as I'll likely get 2 points minimum from each the most I can be down at the end of the GW is 8 points, plus it strengthens my team exponentially for the coming weeks. Should I get attacking returns - which I'm expecting - then I'm quids in.

    Not playing are: Baines/Zab/Evans/Mata/Walcott/Fellaini/RVP/Pog

I'm swapping Baines, Zab, Fellaini, RVP and Pog for Enrique, Wilson, Sissoko, Suarez and Remy.

The Everton transfers are no-brainers given their upcoming fixtures, Suarez is obvious, Remy is a better 3rd striker and has good fixtures, while Wilson is the enabler.

    Thoughts?

You're not getting it. It's effectively only a 2 point hit, and it's with an eye on their upcoming fixtures too. It's not as black and white as other GW's where I would normally agree it's not worth a 4 point hit.

Should say I'm bringing RVP back next week directly for Lambert, so gives me a squad for GW30 of:

      Begovic/Bunn
Enrique/Evans/Davies/Harte/Wilson (love the 3 cheap defender strategy)
      Bale/Mata/Walcott/Michu/Sissoko

    Bego, RVP, Walcott, Nastasic

Not particularly confident in my own team - but feeling a little smug that one of my ML rivals can only field 3 players this week...

One of my mates only has Begovic, Fletcher and Jake Livermore.

I'm a tad embarrassed for him.

I was on Suaz but have now changed to Siss. He was my VC anywayz. I have a strong gut feeling that he'll do something v STK who seem to be shipping away goals at present.

I'm slightly concerned that Liverpud struggle v top teams.

      A gamble worth taking imo.

As you don't have the Suarez/Bale dilemna - i think it's an easy choice - Bale all the way...

That is unless you fancy a punt - in which case i would go for Benteke rather than Sissoko...

Bale due a blank and im gambling it will be this week against an improving pool. Tekkers could get a pen and some bonuses and they will be scrapping for the points in this game as it is a 6 pointer. I think there will be goals. I think I have made my mind up. Thanks.

    so I am thinking Mata/Walcott out for Sessegnon/Gerrard [-4]

    which gives me

    no GK
    Harte Martin Enrique
    Bale Sissoko Michu Sessegnon Bale
    Lambert Benteke

Not sure at all about Gerrard...... any other suggestions or should I just pull the plug on it?

This is a gwk for avoiding hits and just sitting tight with more or less what you've got. The fixtures just don't justify that sort of outlay and then you are lumbered with these players with more points lost to get rid of them.

        +1

I saw some guy post earlier that if ever there was a week to take hits, this was it. Seemed like madness to me

Agreed - the only 'week to take hits' is a week with a DGW in it...

If you're not sure - save yourself a hit and sit tight... most people will field compromised teams this week and the fixtures don't scream goalfest...
