[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

A raft of weekend bookings saw as many as five Premier League protagonists clamber onto the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their ninth caution of the campaign. One more yellow for any of our quintet triggers an automatic two-match ban now – bearing in mind the curfew is up to and including the Sunday April 14 (Gameweek 33), there’s every chance at least a couple could succumb to suspension.

The five guilty parties are Marouane Fellaini, David Luiz, Gary Caldwell, Craig Gardner and Matthew Lowton, with the first two the obvious concern for Fantasy managers. With Everton looking forward to a double Gameweek 33 (QPR, ars), Fellaini will be a clear target for investment but, in order to avoid the ban, has to engineer four league matches without falling foul of the referee – a Gameweek 31 home clash with Stoke, where he comes face to face with Ryan Shawcross once again, is likely to test his temperament. The frustrating thing for those looking to draft him in for the double is that even if Fellaini manages to go the next three without receiving a yellow, a booking in the first match of the double (at home to QPR on Saturday April 13) would take him over the 10-card limit and leave him unavailable for the second match of the Gameweek, away to Arsenal three days later.

Luiz will potentially teeter on the Tightrope for five games. The Chelsea defender currently has four league games and an FA Cup Sixth Round replay against United also set to take place before Gameweek 33 – depending on the result of that match, he will subsequently have either three league fixtures and a Semi-Final on his agenda or four league games, should United knock the Blues out. There’s also the somewhat unlikely scenario of a sixth game, though. If Rafa Benitez’s side are knocked out of both the FA Cup and Europa League, the Premier League could theoretically reschedule their trip to Fulham, initially set for last weekend, to a date prior to Gameweek 33.

While Gardner, Lowton and Caldwell all have four games apiece before the deadline, the latter could have five matches to prevail. Wigan’s trip to City, initially scheduled for Gameweek 29, has yet to be given a new date – although both sides are through to the Semi-Finals, City’s lack of European action may yet see the match take place before Gameweek 33, affording both clubs a double and adding an extra fixture for Caldwell to navigate.

In terms of those already on the sidelines, both Pavel Pogrebnyak and Robert Huth are set to serve the last of their respective three-match bans for serious foul play and violent conduct respectively, this weekend. Villa’s Fabian Delph sits out the second of a two-match ban – he was the first player to break through the 10 card barrier earlier this month.

    Getting concerned Rafael, Santon and Clyne could leave a big hole in my defence this week.

    People are talking a lot of DGW and RVP. When there is a DGW, do we think RVP will start 3 PL games in a week? I mean Hernandez is more than capable of scoring goals and the league isn't that far from being wrapped up. I just see him getting more gametime, he's rather good and has been patiently waiting all season.

      good point, i guess it depends how far into the season the dgw comes. the earlier, the more likely RVP will play. if the titles already wrapped up by the dgw, then rvp is a bit of a risk.

      Yeah, well my point is what does SAF care about the Golden Boot?! It's useless to him, and he's the one that picks the team. I can't see it factoring into his selection policy, no matter how much RVP wants his sticky Dutch fingers all over it 😀

    Right, let's really assess this week. Players who I haven't got, whom I think could do well:

    Kone, Remy, Benteke, (bottom 7 with Lamb) Lukaku, Tevez

    That just leaves the Chelsea and Utd contingent. Chelsea look a particular minefield in midpark. Incredible potential but they do struggle at home. I know I would end up picking the wrong one, so let's keep things simple and ignore.

    So that leaves the final debate: Sturridge/Lamb to RVP/Rooney?

    I may just stick with double Pool and Lambert all things considered.

    What a fine mess complicated by Pog and now Sess needs to be benched...

      I see we're in the same position, I think I'll give Sess one last chance, he'll be out for Cazorla next week for me to double up on Arsenal in midfield. Think I'm passing any United coverage for the week and hiding behind the couch on Saturday night. Hammers don't travel well at all, and after our draw with united, the fans are very positive, so are the players. I think we'll win this game by a margin of 2 goals.

        It's just no Utd striker that is concerning and now I've looked at the GW methodically, it's the only troubling aspect.

        I could get either for a free but RVP looked shattered on Sunday.

          I think one of Rooney/RVP is essential surely for this week. But I'm too stubborn to part with either of Lukaku or Benteke to get one of them in, cause long term, it really doesn't look so good with United virtually winning the title and resting and rotation will kick in.

      Not nailed on so there are better options out there imo.

      Mancini been playing 451 recently and Aguero's back this week I think.

      With Lambert, Benteke, Kone, Lukaku, Remy etc, all scoring and playing every week, not sure Tevez is worth the gamble.

    Not sure if i should get RVP, Rooney or just leave it. The last choice could backfire spectacularly. Ahead in all my Mini leagues, Everyone below me has RVP.

    Mig (Fed)
    Rafael/Zabaleta/Enrique (Davies/Clyne)
    Mata/Bale/Michu/Walcott (Sissoko)
    Suarez/Lambert/Sturridge

    A. Sturridge/Michu -> RVP/Maloney
    B. Sturridge/Davies -> Rooney/Harte
    C. Something else

    Who are people considering for Arsenal & Everton's DGWs?

    Have Walcott, may do Bego > Szcez next GW, but beyond that (with Fell teetering on suspension), I'm somewhat confused!

      I have only Walcott. Considering Michu -> Cazorla next week. Not too keen on Everton, considering their fixtures and form. Of course this could change when it gets closer and DGW-madness start setting in, but for now I'd be happy with Caz and Walcott (c).

          I got Sess in last week so feel compelled to play him this week. I'm still leaning towards benching Michu. Think Le Arse will be sensing blood as Spurs lost this week and so will be up for it against Swansea (who's playing style will probably suit Arsenal).

      I keep telling myself I made the right call not doing Kebe -> Sissoko last week, so I would avoid the benching dilemma this GW... hard to convince myself though 🙂

      Out of those I'd bench Sissoko indeed. Michu at home, that's very hard to bench even with his form lately.

      I think Sissoko will outperform Michu for the rest of the season. Newcastle is still trying to avoid relegation, Swansea is content with their European qualification and in no danger of being relegated, and Michu just signed a new contract with Swansea.

        Not sure I'd agree, but they do have better fixtures. Michu has an amazing eye for goal, not sure Sissoko is even in the same league, but at the moment he seems hot. I'm still backing Michu to come good over his back-to-back home games.
