[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

As the days tick by towards the next raising of the suspension threshold, the conveyor belt of footballers vying to show off their balancing skills grows ever richer. This week saw the second player to fall foul of the 10 card limit instantly replaced on the tightrope widget by three more eager faces, each now with nine cautions to their name. Elsewhere, a couple more red cards ensured that the ban list at Soho Square is kept fully stocked for the weeks ahead.

Marouane Fellaini
It’s not a huge surprise to see the Everton man grace these pages again. After picking up his ninth card in the previous weekend’s FA Cup home loss to Wigan, Fellaini lasted just seven more minutes on the high wire before crashing down to earth with a bookable challenge on City’s James Milner. The standard punishment for reaching double figures in yellows before the April 14 is therefore headed his way, with the Belgian set to sit out the following pair of fixtures at home to Stoke and away at Spurs respectively. From a Fantasy perspective, however, it means the ban is no longer hanging over him ahead of the Toffees’ double Gameweek 33 – Fellaini will be freshly rested and available just in time for a home clash with QPR and trip to Arsenal; with attacking returns in three of his last five, he can expect plenty renewed investment once he’s served his spell on the sidelines.

Steven Pienaar
The South African also misses the Stoke and Spurs games, further adding to David Moyes’ midfield woes. Pienaar saw red an hour into Saturday lunchtime’s Goodison game after collecting a pair of yellows due to fouls on Gareth Barry and Javi Garcia – the standard one-match ban for such a misdemeanour is doubled as this is his second dismissal of the season. A couple of spots in the Everton midfield immediately therefore open up – Steven Naismith and Bryan Oviedo could be set to benefit, though Nikica Jelavic may return to the starting XI if Moyes decides to utilise Victor Anichebe in “the hole” as a result of Fellaini’s absence.

Mark Bunn
Completing the ban list for Gameweek 30, the Norwich goalkeeper was sent off after less than half an hour of the draw against Sunderland. Bunn’s dismissal, as a result of handling outside the area and denying a goalscoring opportunity under pressure from the onrushing Danny Graham, carries a single match ban, but he has cause to feel aggrieved at the decision with the replays clearly showing the ball came off his chest. The Canaries stopper looks under threat to retain his place now, though. Chris Hughton admitted in last Friday’s press conference that John Ruddy is closing in on a comeback from the thigh injury which has sidelined him since Gameweek 13 and is expected back in a fortnight’s time. No doubt the ‘Hot Cross Bunn’ jokes were doing the rounds as Easter approaches later this month.

Luis Suárez
Having gone three games without a yellow card, and with just one solitary booking in his last 11 games before this weekend, you would have been forgiven for thinking Suárez might not trouble the disciplinarians again this season. A yellow card accrued in injury time at the end of the loss to Southampton – incidentally his third yellow in five domestic losses since Christmas, contrasted with no cards in the nine games Liverpool have won or drawn – sees the tricky Uruguayan climb aboard the Tightrope for potentially the next three games. Can he hold out and avoid the mass Fantasy sales that will result? Maybe if Liverpool return to winning ways he will.

James Perch and Stéphane M’Bia
Suárez is joined on the tightrope by Newcastle’s utility man (and third choice right back yesterday) Perch, and the midfield rock at QPR, M’Bia, with both also picking up their ninth yellows of the season in the weekend games. The Suspension Tightrope in full therefore reads as follows, with all players needing to navigate a minimum of 3 fixtures unscathed to avoid a two match ban:

  • Matthew Lowton (AVL)
  • David Luiz (CHE)
  • Luis Suárez (LIV)
  • James Perch (NEW)
  • Stéphane M’Bia (QPR)
  • Craig Gardner (SUN)
  • Gary Caldwell (WIG)

A trio of protagonists climb off the naughty step and return to action in Gameweek 30. Fabian Delph is welcomed back by Villa for the home game with Liverpool after serving a two-match suspension for picking up 10 cautions. Robert Huth and Pavel Pogrebnyak return for Stoke and Reading respectively – their three-match bans for violent conduct have now come to a conclusion.

Hey guys, what should I do with this team?

    Begovic--Cerny

    Clyne--Martin.R--Samba--Davies--Harte

    Walcott--Michu--Sissoko--Mata--Bale

    Suarez--RVP--Pogrebynak

1 FT, 3.3 in the bank.

Right now I am looking at Sissoko-->Cazorla.

Considering if I should also do Davies-->O'Brien (4 pt hit) because I can't see Davies getting many more clean sheets for the rest of the season considering Swansea's fixtures. And WHU have got decent fixtures right up until the end of the season and of course a DGW 33.

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks! 🙂

I'd hold the transfer depending on injuries, bench Pog, Harte and Clyne... captain Suarez or Walcott .

That leaves you with a total of three transfers before gwk 33. Use them wisely to get one or more of

Arsenal defender, Fellaini, Cazorla and Rooney if Man Utd double is on.

        Solid advice.

If I were to use a transfer this week, it would be to upgrade Pog, but benching him and saving the FT would make sense.

        I also wouldn't waste a transfer on Davies > O'Brien.

there is the chance, but good defence wont keep them up, they need to attack, and think style of football of the opposition influences alot the number of goals. Arsenal quick passing style and fast runners seems to hurt them

One of Rooney or RVP will almost certainly be rested ahead of the Chelsea game...possibly both will be.

I still see Man Utd winning based on Sunderland's inability to score from open play and Man Utd having one of the best benches in the league. Hernandez, Wellbeck, Giggs etc are all more than capable of scoring. Also Sunderland humiliated Man Utd in the final game of last season...there are those such as Rooney who have publicly said they will never forget that.

Those that think RVP will be rested:

Remember Hernandez' record v Chelsea. And Rooney 'needs games' (apparantly, even this far into the season, but anyway..)

Could very easily start with Rooney/Hernandez again vs. Chelsea

And with RVP out of scoring form, Fergie might want him to play Sunderland to try and boost his confidence

      So maybe think again?

It's hard for me to even think about transfers with 12 days to go and internationals to get passed, but is anyone NOT getting Fellaini for the double? What with his patchy form and tendency to attract yellow cards? For me, his ownership is so high that it would be dangerous to go without. He is still getting the ball in dangerous positions, and is still unbeatable in the air, and still has the afro.

Yeah he's gotta be had for the double, IMO.

Depends if you're chasing leads in ML's or not though of course. If not, then get him, if are, then can risk someone like Osman or someone.

Cole is overrated, hasn't ever done much for England. Missed penalty in the Euros. Baines has a goal threat and would be excellent at a tournament. This is why England never do anything as players are picked on reputation. Cole has been awful this season and Baines has been great.

Cole is better defensively, Baines is better offensively. It isn't inconceivable to play them both on the left. I can see Baines doing a good job left of midfield.

You can't question Cole ability to defend and I know there are doubts on his ability to attack compare to Baines. However, if Cole gets cover on the left wing, he can be excellent offensively too. Look at his season under Ancelotti.

There's a Zen saying, "What you resist persists, and what you allow to be disappears." Thinking outside the box without understanding the box is a petulant exercise in resistance — every idea that comes from the process has the box written all over it. It's a reaction to the box. It's fighting the box. It's a child of the box. Zune was Microsoft trying to think outside the box, which they saw as the lack of a product to compete with the iPod. The doomed MP3 player became a monument to the real box, which was Microsoft's inability to innovate. It was screaming so hard "Look, we're innovative" that it never had a chance of being anything but the antithesis of innovation.

Be economical with the truth in cases where you've not done the job but are more than capable. If you've showed someone how to turn on a light that counts as training, etc. If they ask "what part of the job will prove most difficult to you"? Reply "none, after you complete the training" you're looking forward to the challenge.Always let them think you're a positive person.

Well it's just that the title race is practically over and they have Chelsea a few days later at the bridge. You'd imagine Fergie will see Chelsea as the MUST win game. That's why I think there is some doubt over the team that will play Sunderland.

If the Man United DGW goes ahead in GW33 ; my plan is a 4 point hit in GW31 and a 4 point hit in GW33.

    Walcott, Cazorla, Fellaini, Pienaar.
    RVP, Rooney, Giroud.

No DGW defenders or GKs, no West Ham. Feck it...balls out time of the season.

You say 'No West Ham' like it's some kind of disaster or something.

      The simple truth is:

      1) They have an away fixture vs. Southampton. Not an easy game with Southampton still not safe from relegation, and have just come off the back of a win vs. Liverpool
      2) A home game against Man Utd
      3) You realistically wouldn't captain a West Ham player anyway

So it's nothing like a big disaster that you make out.

Saying that, your front 8 for that week looks very nice mate

He is. I suspect it might just pan out a similar scoreline when they met in the first half of the season. Plus, ARS are looking to grab that top four spot.

I've thought about doubling up with Cazorla as well as I have Walcott but would not want to offload any of Mata/Bale big hitters. Got Puncheon and Sissoko alongside but don't have to funds to upgrade one of these.

As you said, Cazorla is a great shout too.

Most ppl are doing cazorla/walcott/one arsenal def

giroud might be a great call for the dgw provided he keeps his place in the team

it might be possible with wilshere out for a further 6 weeks 🙂

Liverpool always seem to bounce back after a shocking loss, so I expect them to put at least 3 against AV so you might want to buy suarez and double up on Lpool over their next 2 fixtures.

If you bring in Giroud, would you:

      a) Captain Giroud ahead of Walcott or any other player?

      - If so, bring him in and captain Giroud

      b) Captain Walcott or any other player ahead of Giroud?

      - If so, only bring in Giroud if you think the transfer from another striker > Giroud is also a good long term (up until you use your WC) option
