It says a lot about Santi Cazorlaโ€™s importance to Arsenal that no other player has been selected as often for the Gunners first-team this term. In his debut season for the north London outfit, the Spaniard has featured in all of his sideโ€™s 29 leagues fixtures, with 28 starts and a single sub appearance to his name thus far.

Snapped up from Malaga last summer, Cazorla arrived with a reputation for the spectacular โ€“ his threat from long range and set-piece ability had lit up La Liga many a time, though a single goal in his first six league games suggested his settling-in period at the Emirates would be a gradual one. Handed a role in โ€œthe holeโ€, Cazorla also chipped in with a trio of assists over that opening period; an indication that his Fantasy contribution would be steady, if somewhat unspectacular. As Theo Walcott struggled to establish himself with just one start in the first 10 matches and with Olivier Giroud toiling under the weight of expectation after Robin Van Persieโ€™s exit, Cazorla seemed the obvious route into Arsenalโ€™s attacking options.

Come Gameweek 11, though, the Fantasy landscape started to evolve. Reinstalled to the first XI, Walcottโ€™s blistering form saw him rack up returns and with his initial price having dropped, many Cazorla owners jumped on board the bandwagon as a means of freeing up budget. Although Walcott increasingly proved the more popular pick, Cazorla kept pace with his fellow midfielder and in spite of a move to the left flank to accommodate the returning Jack Wilshere centrally, has recently overtaken his fellow wide man in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings, scoring three goals in the last five in a spell where Walcott has failed to find the net. Having now produced double figures for the season, the playmaker has spoken of his determination to push on as Arsenal chase down Spurs in the race for fourth:

“I think a figure of 11 goals this season is good for a midfielder, but I think I can score more and improve in that facet of the game. It’s an aspect of my game I’ve always tried to improve. Last season at Malaga I hit nine and my target was to go beyond that. Everything influences it (the improvement in front of goal). You have to try and improve as an individual and, ultimately, if you’re better, the team makes you better too. It all works in tandem and you need the two to come together, the individual and the collective.”

The league situation could be a deciding factor for those eyeing up Cazorlaโ€™s acquisition. Having upset the odds with a valiant win at Bayern and followed that up with a victory at Swansea, the Gunners seem to have found their stride at the right time. The short-term schedule looks more than favourable as Wengerโ€™s side now entertain Reading and also have back-to-back home fixtures over double Gameweek 33, as Norwich and Everton make their way to the Emirates.

While all of the top four are either still in the FA Cup or Europe (or both in Chelseaโ€™s case), Arsenal have only the league to focus on โ€“ crucially, then, no rest and rotation can be expected at a time where the likes of other premium priced midfielders such as Juan Mata, Eden Hazard or even David Silvaโ€™s game time may suffer in their respective sidesโ€™ hunt for silverware. At 9.3, then, Cazorla looks an obvious like for like swap, while owners of Marouane Fellaini and Michu may also be eyeing up his acquisition if budget can be freed up โ€“ Fellaini is suspended for the next two while Michu has one goal in nine and has a blank Gameweek 33.

As the likes of Giroud and Lukas Podolski struggle for form or game time respectively, Cazorla, along with Walcott, looks key to the Gunnersโ€™ fortunes over the remaining few matches. Thereโ€™s little doubt that the Spaniard is his sideโ€™s form attacker โ€“ a return to the centre as a result of Wilshereโ€™s ankle problem merely heightens his appeal and the recent revelation on Walcott’s pelvic injury, making him a doubt for the Gameweek 31 Emirates clash with the Royals, has surely compounded matters.

While many are content to hold fire on their transfer plans, perhaps waiting for the result of the Chelsea โ€“ United FA Cup replay to get a clearer picture, Cazorla’s 23 point haul against Reading last time out makes a more than persuasive case for inclusion; he has received more transfers in than any other player since the end of Gameweek 30, though many will be content to wait until the upcoming internationals are at least out the way for fear of tempting fate with any acquisition.

What are people's thoughts on Mancini with his time at City as a manager?

I know he won the title last season, but I have major doubts over his rotation for the sake of rotating. The fact that he dropped Tevez to the bench at least twice this season directly after scoring goals is just plain stupid. Dzeko was playing well not so long ago, but he too was rewarded for being dropped.

He also seems to get into arguments with some of his players - Balo and Tevez at least 2 but think he's had run-ins with other players as well.

FPL wise, I think we'd be better off if he moved on in the summer. Non-FPL wise I have my doubts about whether he really take Fergie to the wire again.

His problem is he obsesses with the height of his team. He doesn't like Dzeko because he's not very technical but plays him to close off games when defending corners etc is important.

Nastacic kind of caused the problem. Last year with Kompany and Lescott the height issue was less relevant.

Problem with Dzeko is he playing in a very technically strong team, doesn't fit their style of play, as my gut feeling is Chelsea may find that with Ba, who I feel are a better side with Torres in the team.

Hard to know with Tevez what goes on behind the scenes, as for Balo he was almost impossible to manage. Selling De Jong was the move I could not understand the moment it happened. Some poor players added this season also. If it ain't broke don't fix it, perhaps add a couple of players in required areas that further improve the team.

I don't, lots of managers, which ones? He put together a team and brought success. Winning a pl title takes somedoing regardless of how much money you have, and with that comes plenty of egos to manage. As regards Europe City are still rookies in that tournement at a time when other parts of Europe are ahead of the PL. Not done everything right but much of the football he coached his team to play was f the highest quality.

When you say 'put together a team', you would usually think of managers who were starved for cash like Pulis, Martinez or Moyes. Mancini has been aweful. He was told to basically spend as much as he likes and win the cups for the club. He has massively underachieved.

Until the managers you have mentioned are put in that position and succeed their potential means nothing. It is a whole new ball game. He formed a team of players and got them playing as a unit, football of the highest quality, and did achieve. What he has achieved for City can not be taken away from him.

^This their play last year was truly of the highest order with the odd cricket score against top 4 teams thrown in to boot.

Ridiculous statement. He has no more world class players than Utd or Chelsea. And winning the league is winning the league, it doesn't matter if you do it by 12 points or on goal difference. His best players have constantly picked up injuries this season. Yes, he is partly at fault for a poor season, but he has earned another year in my `opinion.

You still don't get my point (and don't read it correctly either)

I said he had a unlimited pool of players and finances AT HIS EXPOSURE. None of the other managers had that. [Chelsea managers did not have half the involvement in the new player signing process as Mancini did. So it was more a case of Roman picking the team and not the Chelsea managers themselves]

He had the go-ahead to have as many world class players as he likes. He bought everyone he wanted to his hearts content and to then fail is just not permissable.

I did think it was crazy to lose de Jong with African cup of nations this year but new rules are probably why the likes of Barry and Milner were ahead in the pecking order.

Surely it is his fault if his big players are out of form. He should work out why and fix it. I'm not saying that would be easy, but were talking about the Manager of the second best team in England.

Exactly, second best. You can't be the best every season. Were people questioning Fergie when Arsenal or Chelsea beat them to the league?

Why do you persistently refuse to acknowledge the financial side of things? Fergie never had a 'buy whoever you want at whatever price you want as much as you want' card. Not that he needed one either!

Why do you persistently refuse to acknowledge the complex nature of management? Finance is just one factor.

If management being complex is his excuse then he shouldn't be a PL manager in the first place. All I am saying is that Mancini started with a golden spoon and has underachieved.

I dont rate Mancini as a manger.

But my main point here is I really dont rate you as an arguer. Your points are so one-sided with apparently no awareness of the whole issue.

The spends you have mentioned have been over such a long period that they average out to being quite a low spend per year, as compared to Mancini. Plus Fergies been selling them at good prices, unlike Mancini selling De Jong for 3.5mill!! Also, dont forget the salaries Mancini is showering his players with.
All that expense would have been warranted if there were better ManCity results though.
And I am in no way affiliated with Man United.

                    Fergie sold:

                    Berbatov - 4m
                    Pique - 6m
                    Tevez - free
                    Rossi - 6m
                    RVN - 10m
                    Forlan - 2m

All managers make mistakes and losses in the transfer market. Lets not forget that Mancini signed the most promising CB in the league last Summer. Yet he never gets credit for playing him over Lescott. He just gets criticized for buying Sinclair & Garcia.

They are still second though, it says as much about how relentlessly good utd have been than how bad city have. There are alot of egos in the city dressing room too and Mancini doesn't have the respect of these mercenary footballers that fergie has of his players.

You're right though he has to take a considerable amount of the blame.

I think that reflects more on how crap the standard of the PL league is, the majority of it is becoming an extended version of the championship. Certainly not the greastest UTD side, they have won with less pts many times with far better teams.

That's hard to judge. If the gap between the top teams and the rest is small then does that make the league stronger or weaker? CL hasn't been great this year but 3 sides still in europa.

Can't help thinking utd have got away with not having the great midfield of previous teams though. Rooney and rvp have to be their best ever front two don't you think?

He's like hundreds of managers before him who have had money to spend...It's fine and works for a while...sometimes... but that's it. After that managers have to manage people and their are precious few about...It comes down to choosing the players you can manage and are professional in every sense and then the manager has to get the best out of them. Mancini is not one of those.

I dont get it, in the second race in the season there can be no clear favourite.

In the tour de france Wiggins was lead rider and so Froome supported him through everything. This year in reward he is lead rider. Yet in motor racing there appears to be no situations where the teams care about which of their drivers gets the points.

From a constructors point of view all that matters is that they get two podium places as the money comes from that. But we all know two drivers on the same team should not be fighting for position, it should be a clean pass or nothing.

I think from a team perspective keeping things as they were was the safe thing to do. If they give consent to Vettel to overtake does it not run the risk that Webber goes on the defensive and they could end up taking each other out the race unnecessarily?

Vettel said "It's a win I'm not proud of".
That comment makes absolutely no sense, what it means is I'm a greedy git and I wanted to win at all costs, feck the team I AM VETTEL". Webber should start the next race, finish half a lap, pull up the handbrake, pull a donut , get out, piss on the seat and walk off the course.

Webber's interview said more. A lot of things when through my head during those last 11 laps. Like why the hell am I on a team with this tw@t.

Hamilton's move to Mercedes couldnt have gone better even if it is early days. If Webber wasnt much older he should be looking to change teams.

As if F1 did not need any more help to elevate its status as one of the worst spectator sports in the world along with:
      Squash
      Cycling
      Cricket
      Badminton

This makes F1 the worst sport in the world for me. They are just very fast advertising hoardings.

Squash way too fast to see the ball.
Cycling riddled with drugs, also if you are a spectator watching Cycling you will just see a blur for ten secs.
Cricket it is a very slow ponderous game where its takes DAYS to finish. To make cricket more of spectator sport they decided to have less of it like 20/20. Most of the time the commentators are talking about birds on a roof or the weather. If it rains there is a draw, how mad is that?
Badminton awful to watch on television, obviously a lot more fun to play

I like badminton cause it is a more extreme version of the positional play seen in Tennis. Its where my interest in most sports comes from, not watching the flashy moves, but the underlying tactics that make it seem effortless.

There is a difference between the tour de france and velodrome cycling, and I will admit that some of the velodrome events are not spectator sports. But having been inside a velodrome during races I can say that the atmosphere is amazing and that alone is worth it. But yeah it is better left to the tv to watch the splits.

I agree with Squash and Cricket, but I am surprised you didnt include snooker? I like it but it fits with the rest of your list.

haha I did think of Snooker. But I think that is an ideal spectator sport. Particularly for TV the frames can be slow or fast.
As for the cycling I was thinking of the Tour the De France. We had a stage in Ireland a few years ago and its just a blur of bikes flying by.

I got really into the Tour de France this year, and it was great having it on in the background whilst knowing who the main guys were and there usual tactical plays.
