As we enter the final week in which the accumulation of 10 yellow cards will deliver a ban, the roll call of players still sweating has reduced to just seven (eight if you include Paul Scholes, who in the unlikely scenario of him playing tonight – and the less unlikely scenario of him being booked if he does – will join the merry band). First up, however, a summary of those already unfortunate to have fallen foul of the officials this fun filled weekend.

Despite pulling off an ingenius tackle on James Morrison using only his back in the win at West Brom, Per Mertesacker was given his marching order for a less (more?) graceful challenge in the area on Shane Long. This denial of a goalscoring opportunity not only cost the Gunners a goal (the penalty dispatched by Morrison) but also the towering German’s services for the first fixture of the Gameweek 33 Emirates double header at home to Norwich. The single-match ban means he’ll be available for the second game against Everton, though, throwing further spanners at those thinking of investing in the Gunners’ backline; Arsene Wenger looks likely to call on Mertesacker’s services to deal with the aerial ability of Marouane Fellaini for the visitors.

Similarly absent in Gameweek 33 (and also for the following couple of fixtures) is QPR striker Bobby Zamora, whose karate kick to the head of Jordi Gomez earned him an early bath in the first half of Sunday’s six pointer versus Wigan. Harry Redknapp has been quick to praise Zamora’s importance to his side’s chances in the run in, but his subsequent three-match ban, coupled with this failure to win, may take the remains of any wind from their sails.

Last but not least on the ban list from the weekend is Sunderland’s penalty taker Craig Gardner. His penchant for a booking (perhaps picked up from teammate Lee Cattermole) means he has clocked up double figures for the campaign with a game to spare and those 10 yellows earn him an immediate two-match ban taking in the Tyne-Wear derby in Gameweek 33 and the visit of Everton a week later. Spot-kick duties presumably falling to Seb Larsson or Stéphane Sessègnon in his absence.

Returning from their enforced rests, and primed for double Gameweek investment, Everton pair Marouane Fellainiand Steven Pienaar are firmly back on the radar ahead of a home clash with QPR and trip to Arsenal. At 7.4 and 6.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) respectively, they fall nicely in the mid-priced bracket and with only 6.5 priced Leon Osman for company as consistent Fantasy performers in the Merseysiders’ midfield, it will be difficult to pass at least one of them up.

Finally, as alluded to earlier, the numbers have been dwindling as fast as the games in recent weeks but we still have seven players about the tightrope, just one booking from a two-match ban. The full list sits, as always, in the sidebar widget to the right and those of you who frequent this area of the site will know well those placed upon it.

The new name this week is Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross, who graduated from the eight yellow undercard to the main tightrope stage this week and joins the irrepressible Luis Suárez, along with Villa’s weekend goalscorer Matt Lowton, Stéphane Mbia, David Luiz, and the lesser owned pair of James Perch and Gary Caldwell.

Elsewhere, both Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu remain on the sidelines due to three-match bans. Sidwell misses Fulham’s double Gameweek 33 clashes with Villa and Chelsea before returning for the Gameweek 34 home fixture with Arsenal; as West Brom do not have a fixture this weekend, Mulumbu will miss the Gameweek 34 and 35 showdowns with Newcastle and Southampton, to return in time for Gameweek 36.

But Remy has good fixtures, and Pool have a good run in (except Chelsea of course), whereas as Pearce is benchfodder, Davies has a blank (and DG of course) but Swansea have nothing to play for.

          lambert or berba then...
judging from west ham's performance lambert might find it difficult to score...
on the other hand berba has villa and CHELSEA but has to score one more goal...
i would go lambert in this case and keep the 4 points...

if united win tonight, we'll see this a lot more for the last 6 games of the season

    Lindegaard
    Jones Smalling Vidic Buttner
    Nani Powell Anderson Kagawa
    Hernandez RVP

    - RVP will be going for the golden boot
    - Kagawa, Powell, Jones, Smalling and Buttner need more expereince in the PL
    - Nani, Anderson and Lindegaard need to prove they have a future at the club
    - Vidic needs to prove his knees wont fall apart
    - Hernandez deserves some starts, but other strikers will rotate in and out

Fergie has no reason to let him do so.

SAF has said that Rooney needs games though.

There's a lot of player bias when it comes to Rooney and RvP, and I admit to being just as guilty of it as anyone else 😀

i know what you mean about that, I am monitoring RVP gametime, particularly the next match after tonight - if he's left out, will probably have to push him out for Aguero / Tevez
Hope not tho, and I do think Fergie respects his "Marquee" players and their particular demands, ie. "play me boss, I want the golden boot"; "OK Robin"

davies, samba and hazard out (i have mata)

    to

baines fellaini and sagna for -8

    leaves me with

    migs (fed)
    baines, sagna, demel (GJ, dawson)
    mata walcot caz fellaini (sissoko)
    rooney berba suarez

    or

only 4 point hit, and not do davies to sagna but play GJ instaed.

8 points or 4 points - that is the question?

I was just thinking about the whole Lindegaard-DDG debate.

Even when the title is won, DDG is going to be next season's first choice keeper again. Thus, because he is so young and relatively inexperienced, the games post-title will allow for De Gea to make all these little mistakes and develop on his confidence and such.

Playing Lindegaard in these games will prove nothing really. He is going to have a different defence in front of him more than likely each game, which won't be a true reflection in his performance or a sign to play him in future games. He will probably be given a game, maybe two to stop him from whining on the bench if anything, but as far as I can see it, this is the perfect time to give DDG some responsibility-free game time to develop for next season.

People saying Walcott will jeopardise Giroud's first team place on here are dishing out misinformation IMO. Walcott's chance up front came when Giroud was injured and by and large the experiment went badly. Walcott has the hold-up game of a whale with a beach ball at Seaworld. The 4-3-3 requires a tall central pivot and Giroud is the only one Arsenal have got for now (for our sins) so barring injury he should start every game. His height is relied on in defence as well and while he's not been scoring loads, he's been pretty effective for those around him.

i might be talking out of my arse but arsenal seem to have formed two game plans recently.
i think walcott is effective as a striker on a counter attack team (a bit like they played against swansea away). As both games are home, i agree with you that in the dgw walcott will not affect giroud but later in the season maybe.....

as i say - i might be talking out of my arse.

How's this looking for GW33 (and beyond):

    DDG (Bunn)
    Sagna - Clyne - R Martin (Wilson - Davies)
Santi - Fellani - Mata - Schneiderlin (Michu)
    RVP - Suarez - Lambert

Am on a WC (so further transfers not an issue) and have 1.1 left available. Don't want to drop RVP or Suarez really so not got money for Baines but he's be my first target otherwise. Thoughts?

    C) Clichy + Benteke

    D) Clichy + Mirallas

    E) Other (0.1 short of Clichy + Berbatov)

Having read the Scout tweet on Rosicky, Granville's talk up on him a few days ago is making real sense especially if he does play in the hole. Any thoughts ?

What was the thoughts? Rumblings that Wilshere was being rushed back early and may now be given another week or 2 off with Rosicky's form.

Thoughts on transferring him in. I am for Bale but will wait until late Friday before final decision

Good option. Wilshere won't be rushed back.
Each time Rosicky makes a comeback from injury he seems to regain another bit of his game (from his peak). He couldn't score for toffee a few years ago (he was hitting everything too hard) - but his ball-striking is looking quite natural now.
He's one of my favourite Arsenal players to watch of the 'Emirates-era'. Weight of pass is sublime. And his 'trivela' passing is - mwah!

He was one of my favourite players in Euro 2004. Class player, shame the long injury ruined him abit

I'm waiting on Walcott. If he's out of the Norwich game, I'm shifting him for Rosicky.

Is it worth trying to cling on to Davies through blank for the DGW36? or get rid for Demel to allow extra funds elsewhere?

I will have to hold onto him this week with Santon injured. Neil taylor is back on the radar and I think Ben Davies has looked a bit shaky the last few games - "play it by ear" is my advice...

Taylor's due back, so I think a Davies DGW is unlikely in any case. Demel is not an ideal DGW choice but, of the two, I'd go for that one.
