As we enter the final week in which the accumulation of 10 yellow cards will deliver a ban, the roll call of players still sweating has reduced to just seven (eight if you include Paul Scholes, who in the unlikely scenario of him playing tonight – and the less unlikely scenario of him being booked if he does – will join the merry band). First up, however, a summary of those already unfortunate to have fallen foul of the officials this fun filled weekend.

Despite pulling off an ingenius tackle on James Morrison using only his back in the win at West Brom, Per Mertesacker was given his marching order for a less (more?) graceful challenge in the area on Shane Long. This denial of a goalscoring opportunity not only cost the Gunners a goal (the penalty dispatched by Morrison) but also the towering German’s services for the first fixture of the Gameweek 33 Emirates double header at home to Norwich. The single-match ban means he’ll be available for the second game against Everton, though, throwing further spanners at those thinking of investing in the Gunners’ backline; Arsene Wenger looks likely to call on Mertesacker’s services to deal with the aerial ability of Marouane Fellaini for the visitors.

Similarly absent in Gameweek 33 (and also for the following couple of fixtures) is QPR striker Bobby Zamora, whose karate kick to the head of Jordi Gomez earned him an early bath in the first half of Sunday’s six pointer versus Wigan. Harry Redknapp has been quick to praise Zamora’s importance to his side’s chances in the run in, but his subsequent three-match ban, coupled with this failure to win, may take the remains of any wind from their sails.

Last but not least on the ban list from the weekend is Sunderland’s penalty taker Craig Gardner. His penchant for a booking (perhaps picked up from teammate Lee Cattermole) means he has clocked up double figures for the campaign with a game to spare and those 10 yellows earn him an immediate two-match ban taking in the Tyne-Wear derby in Gameweek 33 and the visit of Everton a week later. Spot-kick duties presumably falling to Seb Larsson or Stéphane Sessègnon in his absence.

Returning from their enforced rests, and primed for double Gameweek investment, Everton pair Marouane Fellainiand Steven Pienaar are firmly back on the radar ahead of a home clash with QPR and trip to Arsenal. At 7.4 and 6.6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) respectively, they fall nicely in the mid-priced bracket and with only 6.5 priced Leon Osman for company as consistent Fantasy performers in the Merseysiders’ midfield, it will be difficult to pass at least one of them up.

Finally, as alluded to earlier, the numbers have been dwindling as fast as the games in recent weeks but we still have seven players about the tightrope, just one booking from a two-match ban. The full list sits, as always, in the sidebar widget to the right and those of you who frequent this area of the site will know well those placed upon it.

The new name this week is Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross, who graduated from the eight yellow undercard to the main tightrope stage this week and joins the irrepressible Luis Suárez, along with Villa’s weekend goalscorer Matt Lowton, Stéphane Mbia, David Luiz, and the lesser owned pair of James Perch and Gary Caldwell.

Elsewhere, both Steve Sidwell and Youssouf Mulumbu remain on the sidelines due to three-match bans. Sidwell misses Fulham’s double Gameweek 33 clashes with Villa and Chelsea before returning for the Gameweek 34 home fixture with Arsenal; as West Brom do not have a fixture this weekend, Mulumbu will miss the Gameweek 34 and 35 showdowns with Newcastle and Southampton, to return in time for Gameweek 36.

To get ONE United defender right in any game is well done, two get TWO games out of one in a DGW is even better. Would say Evra is the best bet. Been rested lately, and is more safe than Rafael anyway.

      Fabianski*,
      Zabaleta, Wilson, Demel*,
      Cazorla*, Walcott*, Mata, Guthrie,
      RVP*, Suarez, Berbatov*.

Federici, Harte, Michu, Davies. (1 FT, 0.8m)

What should I do? Maxed out on Arsenal so can’t get another one of their defenders. ATM, I’m thinking Mata -> Fellaini, Davies -> Baines for -4. Sound good? It’s leaving me with 0 in the bank so I’ll have to make the move soon.

a - no rush - will take 2-3 days for giroud or baines to go up, and fellaini is protected.
b - berba over Giroud IMO - will also give you the chance to have fabianski if you choose.

well, think of it in isolation:

mignolet is probably 1-2 oints this week at best.
cant see fabianski with less than 4, and 1 CS out of two home games, one against norwich, is surely more than 50%.
so, like in poker, pot odds give fabs 6-7 points in average, and migs 1-2.
            sounds like a winner 🙂

so basically it boils down to this – having a great team with only 1 or 2 hits but no baines, or taking an extra hit and also killing a key asset or two and get baines in.
a – is he worth the hassle? (for example – GJ to baines for -4 worth it?)
b – is jags a decent everton defence option?

Hey guys, im contemplating several options
      Current team:
      Jaask
      Wilson Enrique JEvans (Davies, Harte)
      Mata Gerrard Santi Michu (Puncheon)
      Sturridge RVP Lambert

      A) Michu > Fellaini, Sturridge > Berba 4pt hit
      B) Michu > Fellaini, Sturridge > Giroud 4pt hit
      C) The same as A/B plus Harte > Sagna for 8pt hit (4.9-5.2m available depending on berba or giroud)

Which one do u guys think is best? Sturridge to Berba/Giroud/any options I’ve missed? 8pt hit too risky?
      Any opinions appreciated. Cheers!

Or Suarez rested to avoid a 2 game ban. 😉

But anyway I personally wouldn't make a transfer like that based on what is effectively a hunch. You also imagine that Rodgers will have told him strictly not to get booked if he can damn well help it too.

Defence is in a shambles - for GW33 currently have:

      Enrique / Cameron

With Santon injured, Davies no game and Pearce out of favour.

With no FT left, planning on -4 for Santon -> max 4.9m

I'm maxed out on Arsenal. So the only DGW defender I could afford would be from fulham or w.ham, neither that appealing.

      Any ideas?

I honestly think Benteke is almost a must have, at this stage of the season you need players from teams who have something to fight for and Benteke is the Villa player to have. 4 in 4 games is quality. So i'm not taking him out, it's just Suarez who i'm unsure about.

I'll most likely be taking him out for Kone in 34 anyways, so I could save that transfer and do that now, but Suarez, the prem's top scorer, against a weak reading defence could mean crazy points.. can't really decide at the moment

They conceded, hence don't get the points. Only defenders that were subbed off after 60 minutes that had a CS at that point in time, keep a CS...

This is what the Rules say:

        "Red Cards

If a player receives a red card, they will continue to be penalised for goals conceded by their team.

Red card deductions include any points deducted for yellow cards"

So Mert shouldn't get a CS...

Trickier than last week in my book, if Malaga cause an upset I'm screwed 😆

Its easier imo. You can judge games based on the tactics that the managers are forced to take.

Fair enough, I guess I'm just bracing myself for a disappointing week since I read last week's games quite well.

        RIP Maggie Thatcher.

Not much love for her nowadays but I grew up in Thatchers Britain and I'm grateful for it.

She had bigger balls that the poncy politicians who run the show now.

Bollocks. For once. She was evil.

I might not have agreed with all her policies but she was a remarkable lady.

At least when she sold things off she actually told people about it. Not like the backstabbing gits who govern today.

She was tough as old boots and didn't suffer fools gladly - I always thought death would allude her 🙂 Not sure I agree with you about being grateful for being around when she was at the helm though.....

I can only judge it from my perspective. Maybe I was more privileged that some but I was grateful for the opportunities back then.

Yeah, she was pure old school, reminds me of Cloughie for some reason. Neither of them took any white and told it like it was. Good movie about her too. RIP

QPR are 18/1 to stay up with Bet365. For some reason I’m still tempted to put something on this.

        Thoughts?
