A stunning Sergio Aguero effort silences Old Trafford, puts the brakes on United’s title charge and hands City the three points. Here’s the Stock Check from Monday night’s pulsating Gameweek climax.
On the Up
Sergio Aguero
Not fit enough for the starting XI according to his manager, Ageuro’s introduction nonetheless proved devastating as his sublime finish capped a powerful run across the United defence to seal the City win. The Argentine has suffered a stuttering season but, having failed to start a game since Gameweek 27, he could yet be a factor in our Fantasy season’s as a potential differential if City can use tonight’s result as a springboard for an end of season flourish.
Matija Nastasic
Restored to the starting lineup at the expense of Joleon Lescott after missing the win over Newcastle through injury, the young Serb looks to back installed as the first choice partner for skipper Vincent Kompany. At just 5.3 in the Fantasy Premier League, Nastasic presents a cheap route into a City defence that offers the potential of strong returns over the remaining fixtures, with a double Gameweek also in the offing.
Going Down
Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman’s run without a goal continues. While Van Persie earned praise from his manager post-match and provided the whipped cross for the Vincent Kompany own goal, his contribution went unrewarded and handed him another blank. Van Persie has now scored just one league goal in his last eight league appearances and, with Rooney also failing to impress on his return to fitness, United’s forward line looked jaded ahead of their double Gameweek. Those two fixtures will doubtless stem the tide of Van Persie sales but, if he fails to convert against Stoke and West Ham, we can surely expect his ownership to decline markedly for the final fixtures – particularly if United claim the title early.
Nemanja Vidic
Having started the last five in the league, the commanding Serb was absent tonight as he failed to shake off a knock which meant that Sir Alex Ferguson started with Phil Jones alongside Rio Ferdinand in central defence. Clearly, along with Jonny Evans and perhaps even Rio Ferdinand, it’s very doubtful whether Vidic will start both of United’s double Gameweek fixtures. Patrice Evra and David De Gea still look the most assured defensive options on show.
David Silva
Forced off with a hamstring problem at the death, it’s being reported that City have commented post-match that the Spaniard looks a doubt for the FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea on Sunday which will also cause concern for Fantasy managers ahead of his Gameweek 33 fixture against Wigan the following Wednesday.
