Having suffered a last-gasp defeat at Newcastle on Sunday thanks to a Papiss Cisse goal, Fulham are now offered a chance to return to the form that harvested a run of five games unbeaten prior to their trip to Tyneside. Martin Jol’s side travel to Villa Park this Saturday before entertaining London rivals Chelsea the following Wednesday – bearing in mind the Cottagers have taken four points and returned two clean sheets against their upcoming opponents, confidence in their Fantasy assets will be high. Indeed, with three home games in the following four to follow (ARS, REA, LIV), the upcoming schedule looks kind for Jol’s men:

The Prospects

Despite scoring just three goals in their last five road trips, Fulham will be confident of finding the net away to Villa. The hosts have conceded in each of their last 16 league matches and seem incapable of keeping out their opponents; encouraging signs for the Cottagers, then, given they have drawn blanks in three of the previous five on the road. Fulham’s chances of a clean sheet look unlikely, though; with Christian Benteke rattling in 10 goals in his last 12, the visitors have a hard task on their hands but, as their 1-0 win at White Hart Lane in Gameweek 30 showed, they are more than capable of upsetting the odds.

In front of their own fans, Fulham have lost just one of the last five – a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of United. Jol’s side have registered three wins and a draw over those fixtures, including victories over West Ham, Stoke and QPR – bearing in mind that Chelsea have picked up just one point (away to Reading) in their last four away games, the Cottagers have reason for optimism, though a derby tends to through the form book out the window.

The Likely Lads

Mark Schwarzer’s consistency of selection makes the shot-stopper an obvious contender ahead of the double. With many clubs rotating or blighted by injuries between the sticks, the Australian is nailed-on by comparison and so far this season has supplemented seven clean sheets with three penalty saves. Schwarzer sits sixth in the keeper standings on 112 points; just five points short of his best season since 2009/10.

The attacking potential of Sascha Riether has come to the fore in recent matches. Fulham’s raiding right-back has been in sparkling form, producing a goal and a couple of assists, in addition to five bonus points over his last five appearances. Like Schwarzer, he comes in at 5.1 in FPL and with two clean sheets also thrown, he’s registered double figures twice from Gameweek 27 onwards – so far this week, he’s second only to a certain Bulgarian for transfers in amongst Jol’s side.

There’s no doubt his season has somewhat slowed after a superb opening couple of months but Damien Duff remains on the radar for the Cottagers’ double. With three goals and eight assists to his name this term, the Irishman is Fulham’s second highest scoring outfield player in FPL, having accrued 100 points – with a security of starts unquestioned, a price of 5.8 is kind on the budget, too.

With five goals and 11 bonus points in the last five Gameweeks, Dimitar Berbatov has climbed up the Fantasy standings ahead of the Cottagers’ double. The Bulgarian has been Fulham’s top performer by some distance – 13 goals and four assists over 26 appearances since moving from United last summer. Intriguingly, Fulham have lost just one of the 13 matches in which Berbatov has scored or assisted this season; highlighting just how crucial his contribution will be.

Cheeky Punt

Similar to Duff, John Arne Riise’s season has failed to push on after a scintillating start. Four assists in the opening eight Gameweeks had Fantasy managers scrambling to get on board the bandwagon but since then, he’s teed up just one more for the Cottagers. Crucially, though, this arrived in Fulham’s previous home game and with three clean sheets thrown in over the last six, the 5.2 priced left-back offers a definite alternative to Riether for those eyeing up investment at the back.

So far this season, only five other forwards have bettered the eight assists delivered by Bryan Ruiz. Tucking in behind Berbatov in “the hole”, the Costa Rican seems more content with orchestrating play than finding the net – he’s scored just twice in 22 appearances this season but at 5.0 in FPL, may appeal to those on the hunt for a cut-price cheap third forward.

Cheers for the replies on the previous page guys, all comes down to this, help in picking one up now.

    A) Sess, Federici and Mata/Hazard to Fellaini, Fabianski and Gervinho/Walcott (-8)

    B) Sess, Mata/Hazard and Benteke to Maloney, Fellaini and Rooney (-8)

If B, then would you add another hit? Federici to Fabianski?

Hmm tough as i think you'll want a DGW keeper, but you want United attack IMO. In the same way people trusted that our defence would come good (and it did) our attack will also come good.

Could you afford Fed, Mata and Bentekkers to Fab, Fellaini and Rooney?

It's no popular on here I know but i got rid of Suarez. But I have personal reasons. I simply couldn't stomach wanting the guy to do well, I just hate him. I could tolerate it with Tevez, but I draw the line at Suarez and JT. I tried to put it aside, but i couldn't so I went Rooney and RvP. But I'd probably keep Suarez.

If you are that short I'd go b and stay at -8, and try and get by with the keepers. I'd rather spend points on attackers.

Cheers JK, I don't really hate Suarez, and so, transferring him out before Reading sounds a bit odd to me. I don't even know if I'd be able to play Maloney in that week.

It all depends on how they come through training I guess. Whether '90%' means there ready to start or now. With some fit viable replacements available, plus it being a home game vs a bottom half team - I don't think Wally or Willy will start. I think it will be Podolski coming in for Rosicky and Cazorla back in the hole.

    DDG*
    Evra* Baines* Demel*
    Cazorla* Walcott* Pienaar* Fellaini*
    RVP* Berbatov* Giroud*

    Robles, Rangel, Nastasic, Maloney

    Issues:
    1) I could do Rafael+Zabaleta instead of Evra+Nastasic. Would this be a better combo?

    2) Do I bin Walcott for Gervinho? Either way its not long terms as they will be sold for Michu.

Anyway I think your team is amazing and should do really really well this week. I would go with Walcott and not Evra (rotation risk). I like your forward thinking too. You should do really well in the final stretch.

Hello and good afternoon my fellow football fans, I've just registered ( yes a bit late in the day I know) and I'm still working out how to link my team and put up a gravitar so please be gentle with me, I think I've done both but please correct me if not. I'm just wondering if anybody would be so kind as to check out my team and give some pointers if need be, any help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Anyone else planning on doing RVP > Kone after GW34 Aston Villa and having 7 mil free'd up to spend elsewhere?

How many -4 hits would you take for the following players and which would you pick?

    Riether
    Piennar
    Rafael
    Mirallas
    Koscielny
    sagna

Rafael has a good chance of getting 2 clean sheets so probably him. Possibly Sagna and Piennar too (unless you already have Fellaini)

    A) Is it a legit news piece, or just another leaked lie to drive up his price?
    B) DO Utd want/need him?
    C) Who would we sell?
    D) WHo else do we need to sign first.

would be a HUGE loss, even if he has been awful this season, we would need to replace him with a big name and some other 'Workers'

Strootman, Falcao, and a GOOD winger would be AMAZING!!

Would Swap Anderson, Rooney, Nani and Hernandez plus cash for the above.

SAF is ruthess when it comes to moving big players on regardless of their rep, needs to spend on the midfield big time. Don't forget Young, who isn't goo enough either. Valencia looks past his peak also. Add Scholes add Giggs to the list an some major work to be done.

Well as the news suggests Hernandez is going the other way, so no need for Rooney to move he will just officially become a midfielder.

Is RVP highly likely to be benched in one of the DGW games?

Surely Cazorla is the only player nailed on from Ars/Utd for both games, making him the best captain candidate?

I am tempted by Giroud still though..

I would be surprised if RvP is benched after the result on Monday. Bear in mind United will have 8 days rest since the Derby, although they only have 3 until West Ham, they play Villa in another Monday night game. So again a fair few days rest.

Although RvP is snatching at chances he was burying earlier, a major problem in the last few weeks has been a lack of service from midfield (though it's been that way most of the season given the form of our wingers) RvP will come good.

Good comment...having watched Monday's game I was impressed by the positions both he and Rooney took up...It was the midfield who played badly not the forwards. In the end all a forward can do when he hasn't got the ball is find space...the rest is up to the mids...

Just can't make my mind up about Sagna or Rafael...

    Sagna

pros: cheap, value, nailed on, better fixtures overall imo, allows me to easily get Bale back
cons: not much attacking threat, would be doubling on Arsenal defence

    Rafael

pros: attacking threat, man utd on great run of Clean sheets, 3 fixtures in a row against lower opposition
cons: not 100% nailed on for both games, expensive, may inhibit me getting Bale back easily

    arrrrgh!

      Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Not having Suarez this Gw scares me more than not having any DGW player.

Reading are the type of garbage team Suarez scores shedloads against.

I may get Gerrard just to mitigate my losses from not having Suarez.

Could be golden given his ownership, but too risky...?

Keep that madness reserved to your own team! 😉

It could be a hell of a differential, but too rich for my blood (I wouldn't risk that in the top 1k). I'll probably be keeping him on my WC, but other captaincy options look too strong for that risk. I don't expect him to start both games.
