The Premier League have this morning confirmed a new date for Chelsea’s home game with Tottenham, which was initially due to take place in Gameweek 29. The fixture has now been shifted to Wednesday May 8, handing both clubs a double Gameweek 36 – the Blues travel to United on Sunday May 5 while Spurs entertain Southampton the previous day:
It now clarifies matters for Fantasy managers over the final few Gameweeks of the season and affords us the chance to plan with a greater degree of certainty. We now know that six sides – City, Chelsea, Spurs, Swansea, West Brom and Wigan – all have a double Gameweek 36 on their upcoming agendas, though Chelsea’s Europa League commitments are a definite factor to consider here.
With a couple of semi-final matches against FC Basel also taking place, Rafa Benitez’s side have eight games in 24 days from tomorrow night’s trip to Fulham until their Gameweek 37 home clash with Villa – also bear in mind that the Europa League final is four days after their game with the midlanders and rest and rotation could severely undermine our Fantasy plans, regardless of whether they get the better of the Swiss side.
With City’s schedule also affected by FA Cup Final commitments, Roberto Mancini can be expected to utilise the depth of his squad – as a result, Tottenham’s assets look likely to be of particular interest to Fantasy managers on the back of today’s news. Providing he recovers from an ankle problem, Gareth Bale looks an overwhelming armband favourite, while Jan Vertonghen’s recent attacking exploits are sure to earn the Belgian a bandwagon of his own as Andre Villas-Boas’ side attempt to clinch a top four finish.
As always, we’ll have Scouting the Doubles articles on all six sides in the lead up to Gameweek 36 but for now, this is just a heads-up.
