Christian Benteke inspires a superb display of attacking football from Villa that blows away a bewildered Black Cats, dragging them into the relegation scrap as Stephane Sessegnon sees red. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s events.

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A stunning hat-trick from the hugely impressive Belgian forever scribed his name in Villa folklore and left his faithful Fantasy owners beaming. Benteke has arguably been the signing of the season, registering 18 goals that have almost single-handedly kept Villa afloat. His consistency in a struggling side is quite extraordinary: Benteke has now struck 13 goals in his last 15 league starts, returning incredible value having started the season priced at just 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Matt Lowton
While Benteke will, quite rightly, take the plaudits, Lowton’s recent performances from right-back deserve recognition. Tonight’s assist was his third in six league matches, a spell which also brought that stunning strike in the 3-1 win at Stoke. Villa’s survival this season will assure Lowton of a place on our pre-season watchlist for next term.

Gabby Agbonlahor
Whilst, inevitably playing second fiddle to the mighty Benteke, Agbonlahor has produced some stunning recent form that have boosted Villa and directly translated into hefty Fantasy profit. Tonight’s goal and brace of assists ensured that Agbonlahor has returned attacking points in five of his last six starts, with four goals and three assists in that spell.

Going Down

Stephane Sessegnon
A straight red for violent conduct brought the Benin international’s recent run of form to an abrupt end and was perhaps the biggest blow to Sunderland on a miserable evening. The spark in Sunderland’s recent revival under Paolo Di Canio, unless there is a successful appeal, Sessegnon will miss the remainder of the season. His Fantasy owners will now be pushed to get rid to swap for double Gamweek assets, while Di Canio will have to hope that he has the attacking resources to compensate for the loss.

Simon Mignolet
Di Canio’s rearguard simply had no answer to the pace and industry of Villa’s flanking forwards, whilst they buckled under the presence of Benteke. Having kept back-to-back clean sheets, tonight’s damaging defeat is ill-timed. Sunderland could yet be lured into the relegation scrap, although with home fixtures against Stoke and Southampton to come, Mignolet and his defence have the opportunity to rediscover their resolve.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Im still an outsider, as i think top 5 in with a shout.

I think I need to play sensible this week, as a lot could 'swing' in a dgw - the outcome of this week, will depend what I do the next two . . .

Brought in Bale (c) and Benteke for a hit last week.
Was 1 point behind my opposition
I'm a Villa fan; he is a geordie, who had Sessegnon (-1) and Mignolet (0)
I am now 33 points clear.

Could yesterday have gone any better.

I'm hoping Warburton, but as an outside chance Alun Wyn Jones... If you want an outside bet.

He may be boring and go safe with BoD or O'Connell.

Has to be assured of captain making tests, back row competition is fierce - hence AWJ (c) punt 😉

Warburton is the hot favourite but his personal form was such that he wasn't sure of his place in the Wales 6N team and Lions backrow should be very competitive. I think it should be O'Connell, nailed on starter and the most natural leader

This is the top of my ML:

    ----------2----------Me-------------1,977
    ----------3----------Rival----------1,904
    ----------4----------Rival----------1,903

Stick with Bale (c)? I'm pretty sure that's what they will all be doing.

Games are running out and I don't know if 22 points is catchable without punting.

    Robles
    Dawson - Kompany - Baines

Normally I'd agree with this but 3rd/4th aren't catching up. You don't want to die wondering...but Cup Final rotation doesn't really give you a clear captain alternative. Not easy - I have until Saturday to give an answer, right...?

    Request your wisdom re UCL:
The rules state I'm allowed to make 6 transfers before 1st leg semifinal and then 2 trannies before 2nd leg. Thing is I forgot to make any changes before the 1st leg. Does that mean I can now make 8 changes?
The UCL system warned me they would deduct 8 points from the 6 changes I was planning?
But it wouldn't make sense. Bollocks!

Take each hit on its individual merit. If you think it will gain you more points over the last three weeks (taking into account other transfers it allows/blocks), then do it.

he should be, although, if we (Spurs) have nothing left to play for in gw38, I have a slight suspicion Gallas might be allowed his swan song before being put out to pasture in the summer

      B again 😀

      Because:
      1) Hart has better fixtures than Begovic and has a DGW
      2) Bale is a must till the end of the season, as Tottenham has great fixtures, everything to play for and Bale is the best player in the PL this season
      3) Walcott has better fixtures than Fellaini and Arsenal are fighting for a CL place (Everton are secure in their Europa league place)
      4) Probably Tevez will get more game time than Aguero

Actually why the second choice has more players?

Here is my team (0 FT):

    De Gea

    Luiz, Kompany, Davies (Sagna, Samba)

    Bale, Maloney, Nasri, Michu (Fellaini)

    RVP, Defoe, Tevez

    Anything worth a hit?

Really not getting carried away by DGW fever.

    Here are my proposed moves:

Fellaini > Maloney (leaving both Kone and Maloney with a poor fixture in GW37)
    Lambert > Lukaku/Defoe
Enrique > Kolarov (2 week punt for the -WBA- and -rdg- games)

I'm thinking of doing Lambert > Sturridge and having done with it!

      ZABALETA---DAWSON---baines
      MICHU---BALE---MALONEY---walcott
      TEVEZ---benteke---rvp

      (Boruc, Fellaini, Sagna, Demel)

Yeah, I'm thinking that's wiser. We'll have a lot of potential ghost players in our teams over the last two gameweeks as less teams have anything to play for and more fringe players get game-time.

For me, RVP is the obvious one, then there's Michu and maybe Lambert(?).

On my wildcard and sitting around 40k at the moment plus I haven't concluded on a team. By calling in the wildcard I want to benefit on the DGW and underused players.

I want 3 Manchester City players and I've got Aguero, Tevez and Y. Toure at the moment.
I want to trade in Hart but I'm banking on a Toure profit before.

If you could choose any, who would you rock? I'm liking Aguero, Nasri and Hart TBH.
    Bit puzzled, much appreciated! 🙂

hart is correct choice for def imo, nailed and cheaper than kompany (also nailed)
nasri looks a great pick at the minute, 32 points last 5 gws, and a differential.
Aguero is a differential and the goalscorer, but will not get 180 mins, more like 130/140, but still the best pick imo of the forwards
