Christian Benteke inspires a superb display of attacking football from Villa that blows away a bewildered Black Cats, dragging them into the relegation scrap as Stephane Sessegnon sees red. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s events.

On the Up

Christian Benteke
A stunning hat-trick from the hugely impressive Belgian forever scribed his name in Villa folklore and left his faithful Fantasy owners beaming. Benteke has arguably been the signing of the season, registering 18 goals that have almost single-handedly kept Villa afloat. His consistency in a struggling side is quite extraordinary: Benteke has now struck 13 goals in his last 15 league starts, returning incredible value having started the season priced at just 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Matt Lowton
While Benteke will, quite rightly, take the plaudits, Lowton’s recent performances from right-back deserve recognition. Tonight’s assist was his third in six league matches, a spell which also brought that stunning strike in the 3-1 win at Stoke. Villa’s survival this season will assure Lowton of a place on our pre-season watchlist for next term.

Gabby Agbonlahor
Whilst, inevitably playing second fiddle to the mighty Benteke, Agbonlahor has produced some stunning recent form that have boosted Villa and directly translated into hefty Fantasy profit. Tonight’s goal and brace of assists ensured that Agbonlahor has returned attacking points in five of his last six starts, with four goals and three assists in that spell.

Going Down

Stephane Sessegnon
A straight red for violent conduct brought the Benin international’s recent run of form to an abrupt end and was perhaps the biggest blow to Sunderland on a miserable evening. The spark in Sunderland’s recent revival under Paolo Di Canio, unless there is a successful appeal, Sessegnon will miss the remainder of the season. His Fantasy owners will now be pushed to get rid to swap for double Gamweek assets, while Di Canio will have to hope that he has the attacking resources to compensate for the loss.

Simon Mignolet
Di Canio’s rearguard simply had no answer to the pace and industry of Villa’s flanking forwards, whilst they buckled under the presence of Benteke. Having kept back-to-back clean sheets, tonight’s damaging defeat is ill-timed. Sunderland could yet be lured into the relegation scrap, although with home fixtures against Stoke and Southampton to come, Mignolet and his defence have the opportunity to rediscover their resolve.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Baines Zaba Sagna [Figueroa Rafael]

    MIchu Bale Walcott Maloney [Fellaini]

    RVP Lukaku [Mirallas]

    £0.9m

1FT - willing to take a hit, FELLA or MIRALLAS has to go - will prob sell Baines to make up into someone good - Tevez? Nasri? Silva? Vertongen? Macauley?

I like Demel's fixtures, and he's been great for me this season, and that leaves Clyne, who I'm benching anyways...

I think tonight kind of sealed it really.

Can't see Wigan getting out of this one. This is not the same team that went on that magical run at the end of last season, in exactly the same way that this wasn't the same QPR side that got their act together at home at the back end of last term.

Talking of QPR, we play Newcastle in Gw37 and believe me I wouldn't be resting your hopes on us beating Newcastle if I was a Wigan fan. I doubt my lot will be bothered and I can see us rolling over and getting beat.

        Newcastle play QPR in GW37.

QPR players don't give a toss anymore (not that they did for most of the season anyway). Newcastle will get the 3 points they need to be safe from that game.

Hey guys, need some proper advice, I’m 20 points behind the leader and need to make up the difference.

    DDG Bunn
    Davies* Dawson* Distin Clyne Sagna
    Walcott Michu* Cazorla Bale* Puncheon
    Berbatov RVP Tevez*

Got 1 FT and 1.8 mill in the bank

Do you think it is worth doing this -8 hit.

Distin, Cazorla, Berbatov -> Zabaleta, Mata//Hazard, Lukaku?

He has Hart in defence... No chelsea midfielders...

Or should I do something else? Any help would be awesome.

I wouldn't do Distin > Zaba - I reckon Mancini will rotate his fullbacks, playing first choice team in the cup final, so Zaba may only play one of the matches. Even if he plays both, you're essentially losing 4 points to match your rival's points, which won't help you catch him.

That's just my opinion though, and I'm 70k places below you, so take that with a pinch of salt!

        What about DDG-> Hart?

Do you all think Man City will concede in both?

People are being far too pessimistic about the dgw imo. I think that far many more players from the big teams will play twice bar injury, maybe not for 180 mins but enough to do serious damage.

I have Vertonghen, Zabaleta, Michu, Hazard, Bale, Maloney, Tevez, Defoe, Aguero. Most are saying only Vert, Michu, Bale and Maloney will start both games but I think the other five will also start both and if they don't they have good fixtures afterwards and there will no panic to remove them ..

Love me a good dgw. Bring it on... 🙂

I'm going with Hart, Verthongen, Luiz, Zabaleta, Mata, Michu, Bale, Tevez, Defoe & Kone. All or nothing at this stage..

So what to do with Sess? If I bring in anyone I would have to bench Walcott in order to play them. Am I better off leaving him 3rd sub until gwk 37?

I can only see Wigan picking up 5 points in the run in while I think those just above will all get 2 minimum

Their biggest problem is that Newcastle are probably their best hope of staying up now.

And Newcastle have a nice easy game in GW37 against a totally useless bunch of f***tards who won't be arsed to do anything other than turn up and go through the motions.

Unless 'Arry plays the kids Newcastle will have more desire to win that game. We couldn't even do ourselves a favour so I can't see us doing Wigan one!

Will RvP play against Chelsea? I' m sure there' s gonna be Welbeck (didn't play much lately) or Chicha (always starting vs Chelsea) and Kagawa. Might be hard to fit him in.

the points haul/golden boot is only thing that would stop fergie from rotating. both of those are no longer factors now

Consider that Mata could get injured on Thursday/play 90+ minutes. Then probably proceed

If it helps I'm ditching the same three, but coming in would be Mata, Benteke and a City def; just can't decide kompany or Zaba.
