Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Negredo is tempting but he can only play one position. Aguero can get starts as the main striker and as part of the attacking 3. If he keeps penalties then Kun seems the better option.

Monreal won't be out for long. Will probably miss 2-3 matches.
With Vermaelen out till October, both the CBs are better options.

On another note, we have qualifiers to play. Wish our whole squad was fit at the start of the season.

Now I move onto the 4x2 rotation ratings. I posted it about 30 mins ago, but it's not appeared, so apologies if it shows up twice.

This is where you have four cheap(ish) defenders and play two of them each week, allowing a bit more budget to go on one ever present defensive stalwalt.

    Part one was here: http://bit.ly/15cHeHZ
    Part two was here: http://bit.ly/161bp67

This is where I hoped the research would get really interesting, since it starts to get a bit of a mind fuck to try and see the best path to navigate just by looking at a season ticker.

An easy way to try and approach this might be to get two sets of 2x1 rotations. Much easier to work out, and you might think it does pretty much the same job as a 4x2. So let’s see if that holds true.

As previously mentioned the best rotations so far scored:

    2x1 Rating -4.28 Fixtures -38.5
    3x1 Rating -3.68 Fixtures -51.5

The best for the 4x2 is:

    4x2 Rating -3.95 Fixtures -73

Thanks a lot for this info, it looks like I'm thinking an even cheaper defence myself. I'm leaning towards a four-way rotation, since mid-price defenders like Zabaleta and Enrique were some of my best signings this year. What do people think of this back line?

Collins (WHM 4.5 is he a guaranteed starter?)
      Ramage (CPL 4.0)
      Shaw (SOT 4.5)
      Mertesacker (ARS 5.5)
      Chester (HUL)

My view is that I don't see the point in rotating teams like Hull and Palace and having them play every week when they'll be lucky to get many clean sheets in the premier league. I'd rather have at least one decent defender playing every week myself, with no clean sheet they might still get a cheeky assist or bonus points or something.

This seems very weighted towards Everton, which while understandable considering their strong value, is unhelpful for those of us planning to play Baines or Coleman every week. Would you mind making a version of this that excludes them?

Yeah I'm not settled on the exact players but I like the way the £ is distributed, other 7.0's Ive considered are Van Wolfswinkel / Aspas but they are of course new to the league. Kone had a real good season for Wigan so I feel like he can replicate it.

But yeah could even downgrade the 7.0 forward to Jay.Rod and then mess about with the midfield

Does anyone really think this new BPS will affect things that much? There seems to be a whole lot being invested in who might do well in them, yet it will probably make a 1 pt difference in most cases. I'd rather concentrate on goals, assists, clean sheets, etc.

Ive posted this before, but still interested in views of the experts. Is anyone else going with a 352 formation over 343 out of the gate? Snoddy/mirallas and 3 studs with sturridge/medium striker (berbs/lambs,etc) feels safer then reaching with j rod, Aspas or RvW? Am I crazy particular with the new bonus system that doesn't simply hand bonus points for goals?

Why do you think every RMT is 343? They all have thomas and j rod, neither of which I would feel great about playing? Rather put in a gayle and get a solid front 7 and go a bit heavier on defence out of the gate as some mispriced players at 5 and 5.5.

i prefer anelka + thomas to gayle + a 5.0 mid (or a 4.5 striker and a 5.5 mid), which are my current options.

I don't like having 2 of those weak guys, I'm leaning towards:

            Bale/Wally/silva/snoddy/mirallas
            Sturridge/lambert/gayle

Leaves me plenty of money foe defence/goalies

No idea people are easily influenced! Most of the Rmt's are rather similar and will be a bit different come week 1

I'd be the same as that, I remember I wilcarded one January to get Shane Ferguson in and even spent points last year getting Pog and Noel Hunt in... Sacrificing one or 2 places for better players is perfectly fine in my book.. a well balanced team just leads to bench points which just lead to selection annoyances and ragefaces!

damn that's a nice rank. good to know a 3-5-2 can get you that high. i'm going for 3-4-3 just 'cause it fits around my essentials, but i don't have an fundamental problem with a 3-5-2. i just don't like having 4 (or more) defenders.

Nothing wrong with 3-5-2. Imo there are many strong midfielders whereas not so many must have strikers. I play 3-5-2 most of the time and have done quite well by it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, seems like everyone on this board goes 343. That's fine once the benteke emerges but out of the gate mirallas and snoddy seem waaaaaaay safer than the 6.5 -7.0 strikers

personally i have rvp bale aguero walcott and baines, so i really don't have room for two mid-priced midfielders. i agree that the mid-priced strikers are inferior though, for sure.

I think I prefer 3-5-2 once I've built up a bit of team value. I'll probably start with 3-4-3 because the cheapest playing mids are about a million cheaper than the cheapest playing strikers. I don't know whether that's a popular strategy; it might explain the prevalence of 3-4-3 in RMTs.

Either formation can work well at any point in the season though.

31 goals in 42 games (73%) return in all games.
    25/36 league only (69%).
Why do so many expect him to be a risk?

          Interesting.

Mourinho saying they might have a DGW but he doesn't know yet.

Kalas being promoted to the first team squad. If he's a rightback, that might mean Mourinho prefers Ivanovic as a CB, two from four in the centre of defence. Or maybe Luiz in the double pivot.

So much dodgy and misleading statistical analysis floating around on here with stacks of up up-votes. Some have glaring oversights in the methods used, while others nonchalantly dismiss 'minor' factors which could actually have pretty significant implications. Don't trust the conclusions of the author just because the post looks impressive or like a lot of work went in it. I appreciate the effort that goes in, but putting a lot of work into it doesn't necessarily make it right or useful. Just keep a critical eye when you're reading them, because some of these posts are very misleading.

True, though I should make it clear I'm not suggesting they're deliberately being skewed or intended to mislead or anything like that. They're just often shot through with so many oversights that the conclusions being drawn are worthless, yet are still taken by many as gospel.

Whatevs, it's only fantasy football, I'm just saying the stats posts should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

K well, no need for 2 top end keepers. 1 at max paired with the best 4.5 keeper

Too much $ spent in the defense... 1-3 decent defenders paired with 2-3 cheapies

Bale is 100% needed for the midfield if you like it or not since he's 50% ownership. Pienaar is alright but there's better picks such as Snodgrass or someone who's more advanced or on dead balls. Siggy is a similar pick to Pienaar. AJ is Just meh, Arteta/Wally/Caz is the only Arse mids to consider and Nolan is perfectly fine.

Bony is a bit up in the air at the minute. Lukaku will have competition (although might start first game or 2 since Mourinho thinks the spanish lads will be rested.) Jeli might be off elsewhere + lots of better picks since Kony 2012 is at Everton

What is your big hitter strategy?

I am thinking of just going with RVP and Bale. I can use Lambert as my other obvious captain choice.

It gives me these fixtures for those three captains:

cpl, SWA, Nor, CPL, cdf, WBA, SWA, SOU, HULL, ful, HULL, cdf, tot, AST, NEW, ast, W'HAM, hull, STO

This is up to, and including, GW19.

There is only difficult fixture there. I also have Mirallias and van Wolfswinkel (or whoever is in form at that price) to cover.

Some interesting popular choices appearing when you look at percentage owned.

    Goalies;
de Gea second most popular at 16.7% even with Man U fixtures.
Davis third most popular at 15.6% so people going with cheap non-player who might get odd game

    Defenders;
Merts most popular at 24.4% and at 5.5m people spotting value I guess
Garrido higher than Turner at Norwich and 9th highest at 13.9%. Is he nailed on?

    Midfielders;
Quite a few taking a punt on Paulinho 14.5% in 7th place.
Over half of all teams could start with Bale 51%. Blimey!
Wanyama straight in at number 10 with 10.3%. People recognising he is more than a holding mid.
Huge faith in Coutinho as third most popular choice at 19.2% ownership. They think he's fairly priced

    Attackers;
RVP has 36% ownership. Pity we can't work out Bale/RVP ownership....
    Anelka 16.3% in 5th place....value choice
Lukaku getting some love and faith in him starting I guess at 15.4% in 6th place
New and unproven (in EPL) Bony in at 8th with 14.2%

Ay other surprises people are seeing? Also interested in any popular choices people see where the player might not even get game time but their price suggests they might.

In my opinion the best time to judge form and team line ups is in August, as most teams in this period start to play more challenging opponants. It is very easy to identify form players now when they play a team which no one has ever really heard of and this then leads us to choose players who did well against poor teams but havent shown much potential against more challenging teams.

+2, Lucas is too far back and that's why he's so cheap, although he does quite well there he's not Fantasy Footy quality plus the reds have far too many other options attacking in midfield for him too ever come far forward.

Since it is very difficult to have a well rounded team this year with RVP (and Bale) in, I have carried out some research to help me pick the ‘best three strikers’ based on form and recent stats.

From analyzing Striker’s Points Per Game last year (seen below) as well as other factors such as game time, current club, club form, transfers brought in etc. I have been able to put together an attacking three, which I believe will offer me the best return on investment.

While compiling many RMTs, I noticed a trend, a well rounded team if my strike force costs between 22-26million and a not so strong all round team if it costs 26-31mill.

As you can see I have also included the *new players below, based on 4 points per goal, 2 for 90minuts, 3 for assists and an average bonus, based on what players scored in FPL with similar stats:

*Bony, 8mill, 8.1 PPG (Rough Minutes Combined - 30 games)
    Van P, 14mill, 7.55 Points Per Game (Minutes Combined - 34.7 games)
    Sturridge, 9mill, 7.11 PPG (MC - 13.9 games)
    Lukaku, 8mill, 7.00 PPG (MC - 22.7 games)
    *Altidore, 7mill, 6.67 PPG (RMC - 33 games)
    Podolski, 8.5mill, 6.66 PPG (MC - 22.1 games)
    Suarez, 11mill, 6.46 PPG (MC - 32.8 games)
    Rooney, 10.5mill, 6.39 PPG (MC - 22.4 games)
    Aguero, 11mill, 5.60 PPG (MC - 21.6 games)
    *Gayle, 5mill, 5.60 PPG (RMC - 44 games)
    *Cornelius, 5.5mill, 5.5 PPG (RMC - 32 games)
    Ba, 8.5mill, 5.41 PPG (MC - 28.1 games)
    Lambert, 7.5mill, 5.38 PPG (MC - 34.7 games)
    Benteke, 9mill, 5.30 PPG (MC - 31.3 games)
    *Helenius, 5.5mill, 5.18 PPG (RMC - 33 games)
    Berbatov, 7.5mill, 5.16 PPG (MC - 31.6 games)
    Crouch, 6mill, 4.96 PPG (MC - 25.8 games)
    *RVW, 7mill, 4.73 PPG (RMC - 30 games)
    Giroud, 8.5mill, 4.67 PPG (MC - 25.9 games)
    Torres, 9mill, 4.65 PPG (MC - 28.6 games)
    Defoe, 8.5mill, 4.63 PPG (MC - 26.8 games)
    *Aspas, 7mill, 4.62 PPG (RMC - 34 games)
    J-Rod, 6mill, 4.45 PPG (MC - 24.2 games)
    Carroll, 7.5mill, 4.44 PPG (MC - 21.7 games)
    Kone, 7mill, 4.30 PPG (MC - 32.6 games)
    Weimann, 6mill, 4.21 PPG (MC- 24.9 games)
    Adebayor, 8mill, 4.05 PPG (MC - 17.7 games)
*Anelka – 5.5mill, Useless last year, but we know what he can do.

At 25million (which affords us the scope of having a strong all round team) the obvious frontline would be:

Bony / Sturridge / Lukaku (Total of 22.21 PPG)

However, this very much depends on the latter’s game time, depending on what business is conducted at Chelsea between now and 31st August.

Working on this analysis very much depends on how well the new signings can adapt to the Premier League, but as seen with Michu last year, previous seasons form can be replicated in the premier league. Hence, this research could prove vital.

More/Less game time for a certain few is also something to consider.

Other options I like the look of are:

    30mill - Van Persie / Gayle / Aguero (Total of 18.72 PPG)

All guaranteed starters (I’d say), so room for improvement, but a punchy price and Crystal Palace could struggle to adapt.

    And…

    29mill - Aguero / Lambert / Berbatov (Total 16.14)

All on penalties, which is highly underated. All three looking to push on from last season for different reasons. Lambert was recently quoted saying he ‘didn’t perform as well as he could this season’. Aguero, understandably was disappointed, with himself and rotation. And Berbatov is looking more settled, a season under his belt at Fulham, so should do more this time out.

I welcome your ideas from the research I have carried out above.

    Hope this helps…

Agreed. But Michu was playing for Rayo Vallecano, a middle rate Spanish team, in a league less competitive than the Premier League. Yet, he scored more Premier League goals than La Liga goals.

It definitely offers a rough guide.

personally i started with tevez last season because i considered the rotation chatter to be unfounded. in this case, i'd be pretty stunned if negredo started more than like 2/3 of games. also tevez > negredo as a proven points scorer. tevez at 9.0 was absurd value.

Do you think I'm close with an estimate of 180 mins spread across first 3 games?

Also it's a bit unfair calling Tevez a proven points scorer to make Negredo look bad. Negredo's "La Liga FLL" points (Fantasy La Liga) points would probably match Tevez's FPL points imo. Also, a strong scoring record in Spain cannot be taken lightly as Michu has shown. Talent is talent, be it Spain or England. Both have strong leagues.

maybe but the fact remains that tevez had an incredible end to the previous season, had pretty much the best points per game of any player in the entire league, and was proven in the prem for many years, whereas negredo could easily have acclimatisation issues and whatnot. i dunno guys, i'm not saying it won't work, i'm saying it's about 50% likely to work, which is enough to put me off.

In his last 2 seasons with City he scored 15 goals in 41 games. I'm pretty sure Negredo can beat that strike rate comfortably and match Tevez's value, even if he is half a mil dearer.

It's all about game time imo. 170/180 mins in those first 3 games for Negredo and I'm sure he'll fire me into a fantastic starting rank and already on top of an early bandwagon.

I'm not being too optimistic about that game time am I? :S
