Hull City boss Steve Bruce added to his forward options late last week by acquiring Danny Graham on a season-long loan deal from Sunderland. The former Swansea man is the club’s seventh signing of the summer and follows the likes of Allan McGregor, Curtis Davies, Maynor Figueroa and Ahmed Elmohamady to the KC Stadium as The Tigers prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Having fallen out of favour under Paolo Di Canio after just six months at Sunderland, Graham’s security of game time looks set for a significant increase in the season ahead. Judging by his new manager’s comments, it’s clear that Bruce – who has an option to make the deal permanent at the end of 2013/14 – is a huge fan of the 27-year-old:

Just thought I would point out that Sissoko only made 12 appearances last season and still got 53 points, considering he is nailed on and Newcastle should be better this year I can see him getting 160 points plus next season.

He is a steal at 6m

All depends on who is bought/sold.

As it stands, he'd be nailed on as CAM and therefore a good prospect but if Cabaye is sold without a replacement, he could well drop back into the double pivot, lessening his fantasy appeal.

Here's a very different RMT I feel and one I think that would do surprisingly well.

    Hart, McGregor

Zabaleta, Kompany, Baines, Koscielny or Mert, Coleman

    Bale, Walcott, Morrison, Koren, Thomas

Lambert, Berbatov, Anelka (or Long for 1m more)

    £99m (or £100m)

I feel there's a lot of value in the premium defenders this year as the difference between any 4.5 and Kompany is bigger than the difference you gain from a player who'se worth 2 million more in midfield. Kompany's the one player I am surprised we haven't seen in more RMTs. I think I would end up playing 4 defenders about half the time and 3 the rest. Bale would end up being the captain most weeks, Walcott in gw3 and 10 and 12 if I haven't got any better options by then. The massive drawback is the lack of flexibility in the attack preventing a van Persie purchase without about 3 wholesale changes. Also, the lack of ability to get a CIty attacker as I already have 3 City.

Obviously things will change but I'm definitely considering spending more in defence this year. Any one else considering doing the same?

The trick is to forget all this "heavy hitting defender lark"...Baines is a peg on the board who will get you 170-180 points for 7.0 mill of your budget...same with Vert...Doesn't matter where they play.

All things being equal, £s spent on players you aren't going to captain should return more points spent in goal/defence than in midfield or up front.

The sticking point is that those expensive defenders will safely and predictably get good points, whereas some surprise cheap defenders will inevitably do well enough to outstrip them in terms of value. Also smart use of cheap defensive rotation can add value. And you'll have loads of money sat on the bench if you only play 3 of those expensive defenders.

Another thing to consider is that while the new BPS system favours defenders more than before (especially CBs), it will probably be more likely for a CB in teams which tend to win 1-0 or draw 0-0 to come away from a match with actual BPs awarded than a CB in a team which has won by a lot. ie. Kompany will consistently score high BPS in the course of a game, but if his team has just stuck 3 or 4 in at the other end he still might struggle to come out of it with any BPs awarded.

Also, Mignolet should definitely return better value than Hart.

J Rod is Jay Rodriguez from Southampton, who ended the season strongly and partners Lambert up front. Really good value at 6.0m

Aspas is Liverpools new striker, who has been impressive in friendlies and will either play on the right wing if Sturridge plays and centre forward if Sturridge doesn't. Fittest striker at Liverpool right now, priced at 7.0m.

As a Barca fan, I assure you, Cesc is not going to Man U. If Cesc leaves Barca, he will only go back to Arsenal and that too is already not going to happen. Xavi Hernandez is approaching retirement and Cesc is his replacement. If Thiago had not been sold to Bayern, I would say Cesc to Man U had 10% chance of happening. With Thiago gone, that chance is now zero.

Why what? If you mean why am I mad, it's because I don't have fast enough line speed to get the stream without buffering, plus I have a brilliant deal with Sky so not cost effective to change

You can get the bt channels using the satellite channels - if you have bt broadband and don't think the speed is good enough just give bt your sky card number and they will deliver it to your sky box - if you are happy with that you can then just drop sky sports to make a saving - if you don't have bt broadband then you would have to pay to have it delivered to your sky box

Is that so, interesting. My immediate reaction is at least they'll be showing games all season. ESPN and Setanta before it had a knack of showing games at the start of the season and then completely giving up by the new year for long spells once they had everyone's money.

No he asked about different positions. ]

Giroud is limited to being one of three strikers spots and taking up 9.0 of your budget. He does NOT affect the five midfielders you might pick.

I'd downgrade a defender and fix your keeper situation. Getting a player for just GW1 with no doubles seems a bit risky, more often than not you'll need the one FT to fix a different situation/jump on a bandwagon.

hazard is still a concern IMO, chelsea fixtures are tricky and the don't play at all week 3, so it still depends on a DGW announcement.

navas and negredo are both rotation worries, i'd def go for silva over navas at least. chicarito is a major punt and surely won't get many games? aspas isn't certain to play either although he probly will...

Negredo should be good when he plays but I'd opt for Soldado if that goes through.

Notable results for GW1 since 2008/9 from the big 4

    2008./9 Chelsea 4 Portsmouth 0
    2009/10 Everton 1 Arsenal 6
    2010/11 Arsenal 4 Fulham 0, Chlsea 6 wba 0
    2011/12 Man c 4 Swansea 0
    2012/13 Chelsea 4 Reading 2

If the trend continues , someone going to get a battering on GW1 at the hands of a top four club, and with Chelsea at home to Hull , Arsenal home to Villa and City home to Newcastle it not hard to imagine a battering or two.

    Neglect coverage at your peril

I agree that everyone should try and get a decent prospect from each of those teams. I think Hazard, Walcott/Giroud, & Silva/Aguero would be the likely candidates, although it will be interesting to see if Negredo starts regularly in pre season.

I just wanted to note that you dont really have a point there. Ofcourse players from good teams are better. But I doubt the stats you pointed out changed anyones team building plans

and I tried to point out that good performances from bad teams are equally possible. I think first rounds are probably more than 50% luck.

      Hi Gdog2244,

I am also looking at setting up a squad around Bale and RVP. But I think that defense is very weak and with the new bonus point system, top defender could score quite high.

I would perhaps look at sacrificing one of Hazard or Walcott to bolster the defense.

Some good players, bit top heavy. I'd say get two 4.5 keepers that rotae. Is Bale your 5th mid?

Fulham fans (or non-fans) - how do you see your midfield lining up? In fact from six?

Agree, i was a season ticket holder last year (not a FUL fan obviously, don't ask) and is like a library.

Has anyone ever met a FUL fan, in real life? Do they exist?

I've seen people argue that Lambert's the lone striker up top, plays further forward, blah blah, so is worth the extra 1.5 over J-Rod

If you saw SOT play towards the end of last season, like i did, you would realize thats not the case.
Although in theory J-Rod's a winger, the tactic their new manager applied often saw Jay spend a large amount of time furthest forward on the pitch.

    ------Lambert-------
    RW-------------J-Rod

Lambert would often drop deep, which allowed Rodriguez to make runs towards the inside, creating this sort of a formation^^. The other winger, would normally stay wide.

One thing which Lambo does have over him, however, is set pieces. This would not even be an argument otherwise

Lambert is a long term proven goalscorer too.
JRod had 4 months so still not proven for me.

If Adkins was still in charge, i'd go with Lambert, but Ricky's record under this new manager minus the set pieces, isn't as great as many think.
