Just in case you missed it, we’re supporting PlayON over the new season as our weekly Premier League game of choice. Yesterday we brought you our Strategy Guide, offering some tactical approaches that worked for us last term and tomorrow we’ll be following this up with our first regular player picks article. Today, however, we’re going to examine some of the features of PlayON that you may have overlooked or missed out on whilst playing the game. Plus, we get to take an exclusive peek at the new PlayON website in development.

The Live Matchday Experience

PlayON is powered by a live feed of data from OPTA which enables them to update their points on the fly. They also provide a live feed of events as they happen – this means you can see your points tick away as tackles, goals and assists rack up. You can also see your standing in any of the games you’re playing update live and even compare your current score against any of your competitors. Take it from us, it’s addictive stuff when you’re tussling at the top for some prize money.

For a preview of a live matchday on PlayON, check out this movie.

My Club and League of Titans

We have to admit, we only investigated this feature at the very end of last season but can see clear potential in it. PlayON enables you to affiliate yourself to your favourite club, which means that from that point on, your PlayON weekly team score get added to your club’s points total. This can help your favourite club win trophies in the game when they reach certain points thresholds.

This is taken a step further with the dramatically named, “League of Titans” – which is designed to prove which club supporters know the most about football. Here the top scorer from each club is picked to represent their club in the following Gameweek – leveling the playing field between clubs with small numbers of followers and the larger clubs. Score well and you might get the chance to become the “Titan” for your club and go some way to demonstrate that your supporters have the superior football knowledge. After all, it’s scientifically proven that Fantasy Football ranking is linked to football knowledge.

Open Challenges

PlayON, like most Fantasy Football experiences, is best played with mates but, if you’re new to the game, you can immediately get involved in some one-on-one challenges by using the “Open Challenge” option. You set the number of games you want to play, the amount you wish to stake and other players will see your challenge and come and take you on.

The New PlayON

There’s a revolution on the way with a brand new site being prepared to enhance your PlayON experience. While this is being developed as this is typed, PlayON have offered us an exclusive early peek at what’s in store and you can view the development site via this link.

As you’ll see, the game is getting major facelift with a slick new design but there’s also new features on the way:

Top 5 Leaderboard
Your top five weekly scores over the PlayON season will now be collected and you’ll be ranked against other players in this new leaderboard. There will also be Top 5 Leaderboards for individual games for those setting up regular showdowns with mates.

Enhanced Live Matchdays
PlayON are adding a chat facility to the matchday console. This will fire up once the game is created during the week so you can start the banter before the first whistle blows. There will be private chatrooms for all games created on PlayON so the players involved can trade jibes while the points tally up. There will also be new matchday information tickers updating on major events in the matches and full lineup details for each match. Nice.

And there’s more…
With a new mobile site on the way and a reward system that offers players cash prizes for reaching milestones, these are exciting times for PlayON.

The PlayON Team would like to get feedback on the new site from us so if you have any suggestions for improvement or new features you would like included, add them as comments below and the PlayON Team will pick them up.

Be sure to check out our player picks article tomorrow and, if you fancy taking part this weekend, refer back to yesterday’s strategy guide for some tips to get you started.

You can play for free and Fantasy Football Scout is running a £2 multiplayer game for the community with a guaranteed £500 prize pot this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

While I understand why everyone likes Toure and Mignolet, good value, etc. etc. I'm surprised that so many people are using them out of the gate. I would expect most teams to be thinking about a WC during the first 4-5 weeks of the season and Pool's fixture for defense aren't great early.

at Villa / United / At Swansea...can't see many CS from those matches? Feel like there are better early options (West Ham, Newcastle, Norwich, etc.)

    Am I crazy?

Yes - that I am crazy; or

Yes - that staying away from LIverpool defense for the first 5 weeks is smart.

Frankly I look at Reid's schedule (assuming Collins is out) and I like a 5.0 WHAM defender more than Toure (sounds crazy though)

I've WCed early the last few years and it's played out great. This years, this strategy seems even more viable with

        - uncertainty around Bale, Rooney, etc.
        - DGW
        - Abilty to buy Lescott for the early set of fixtures
        - Desire to get a bunch of Man U and Swansea in around week 5

You never learn more than after the first 3 weeks and have a time to grab a bunch of value players that emerge (who's the second Toon CB, which Sunderland defender is locked on, will Cameron play under Hughes, who is EPL ready, etc., etc.)

Plus when you save it, you have a lot less flexibility as many of your players have appreciated in value and they become tough to sell

casuals follow the points. If Pool has shut-outs, his price will rise (as it should)

I can honestly see early scores of

6 2 1 1 2 for the first five weeks, not sure we see a bandwagon for that type of performance (unless of course he scores a goal)

Maybe. JRod is more likely to be dropped or moved out wide. Lambert is surely one of Southampton's key players. Osvaldo could have a Bony/Michu effect and increase Lambert's returns...

I changed Brayford to Burner and Collins to Murner (yes both:) ) Brayford is supposedly not nailed and Collins I'm not sure on. If burner turns out to be a rotation risk I don't want him and Collins. 1 is plenty for me. My new defence is Burner, Murner, Terry, Chester, Clyne

His returns were shocking in the hole last season. He's a no go imo. Shame 🙁

In the hole behind Rodallega is different than in the hole behind Bent though.

And I can be wrong here, but wasn't Ruiz out when Berb played in the hole? He's pretty influential for Fulham.

Berbs up top with Taarabt in the hole seems the be the better line-up, and hopefully bent is just a bit of cover... but his signing would surely put me off Berbs. I'm a huge berbatov fan, but its a wait-and-see for me.

what are the 4-5 bad gameweeks to a SOT/WHAM rotation in the first 20game again and is a HULL player a suitable option to come in at those?

    Cardiff wasn't.

there was a google docs link yesterday somewhere with all the rotations.

    repost anyone?

    A) Cech / K Toure / Turner(nor)

    C) Foster / Toure / Terry

B, simply because I'm in the camp that's not sold on Toure being guaranteed minutes. I also like cheaper keepers

A poll on the Sunderland site said Westwood, but everyone's just guessing.

I reckon Westwood but nobody knows for certain. Wouldn't risk going with either.

I am confused on getting Cech or Ivan.

Will Ivan play both games and score in both / either.

If i consider Cech I dont need to transfer any of Lukaku, Hazard and Benteke in GW 3.

Should I get in Manone for Cech and Ivan for Collins or keep Cech and Collins as it stays.

    My current team is

    Cech, Boruc
    Collins, Reither, Mert, Zab, Coleman
Mirallas, Hazard, Snod, Ravel morrison, Walcott
    Benteke, Lukaku, Dzeko.

    Any thoughts on the same.
