No thrills. Few spills. Just two men in a room talking about Fantasy Football.

Granville and I handed Jonty and the “Professor” an extended pre-season and rolled the ScoutCast back to its rawest form. Just myself and the Mancunian sharing our thoughts after a summer break and looking forward to another Fantasy campaign.

We talk double Gameweek assets, I roll out the van Persie duvet, Granville reveals more than he should about his team lineup and, around all that, we assess the early bandwagons and preview the weekend fixtures.

Forty-five minutes of two blokes talking about the stuff that’s rattling around in most of our heads right now.

It’s good to be back.

Eavesdrop on the conversation via this link or earwig via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would love to know. Sunderland fans all seem to think Westwood apparently, and I'm tempted to take a punt. Is there a chance they could be rotated though? It seems risky.

So how many *risks* are people taking?

I'm currently looking at one, Dzeko. But that means forgoing Lukaku.

Hard choices. Not sure I have the maverick in me to go more then one risky play.

Its hard to draw a line on the concept of 'risk'. Although for arguments sake my only risk is Dzeko as well. I have Ivanovic, JRod, Chester, Clyne(GW2) as well but I don't consider them particularly risky players to have for GW1.

Michu is pretty fixture proof, I think he demonstrated that last season. Good pre-season form too... Silva... has he done anything pre-season? City has good fixtures, that's true, but I'd wait for 1 GW to see who's actually playing, and well...

Aye I get where you are coming from, I had silva in a initial draft but I have had way too many instances with silva in my team where city score 6 and silva just gets an assist. Put me off

I did change lambert to dzeko this morning with a view to play for first 3-4 game weeks, he could fast become a liability I'm afraid. From what I've seen of pellegrini, 2 up top is standard and kun has barely got any preseason minutes. Could all go tits up really fast

good team! but does that defense rotate well? terry will be rotated too once luiz is fit remember, so seems pretty risky at the back, if you got migs maybe go for a 4.0 and use it to upgrade a def who can be used for rotation

        This thing about Terry rotation.....

I don't buy into it at all.

What's wrong with Cole - Luiz - Terry - Ivanovic

People are overlooking how much Mour loves Terry and vice versa. Plus the fact that he's club captain and still a top drawer centre back.

KDB is better from my research...

KDB is more polished at this stage of his career. Has more versatility than Schurrle and is a far better team player. KDB doesn't just score goals but sets up assists. Schurrle has a reputation for shooting first and looking to teammates only after his ball has gone into the stands.

Think KDB will fit better. Schurrle will have flashes, but he will need more molding from Mourinho.

I dont think this has been covered to great detail so I'm asking,

For 5.5, who is the best value defender? Lescott or Koscielny/Mertesacker

    First 5 Gameweeks:

Lescott - ManCity areserious contenders for four cleansheets in the opening 4 gameweeks on the trot.
But is he completely secure until Nastasic is back after GW5?

Kos/Mert - Since it is Arsenal, Upto 4 cleansheets are possible in the first 5 if they really perform above average, but personally I dont see them getting anything more than 2 cleansheets at best. On the plus side, they are immune to being dropped, well, Mertesacker anyway.

    Votes anyone? Cheers.

Most major transfers are deadline day transfers, then medicals, training etc and you would be into GW5 already until Lescott is dropped. Maybe im being blinded by optimism! You can always switch to the Arsenal lads then?
Or do y'all reckon to start with Kosc/Mert and save a transfer along the way?

I am always an advocate of saving a transfer if you don't need to use it.

Especially with the striker/midfield bandwagons that emerge early in the season. You want to be using those transfers to take advantage of those, not to swap out poor defense choices you've made at the start of the season.

That's not to say you shouldn't have City defense. I personally have Zab in my team, but that's because he'll be sticking around in my team for the long haul.

I can always transfer him out, but Zab seems like the main man for now.

I have funds for Kompany, and have been kicking around the idea of having him for the heck of it. Might do that as well...

True. I think Kompany gives u a lot more value, security and bonuses for just 0.5m extra than Zab.

With Lescott, you can be wary and at least transfer him out when Nastasic is fit again. Zabaleta would just magically be rotated one day when you arent expecting it!
Same reason why I have Cole instead of Terry or Ivan

Unfortunately, I have my heart set on a 4.5/4.5 rotation. I'm starting with boruc/cech, and will swap out cech to westwood or manonne when the sunderland situation is a bit clearer.

    Greetings people.

Here's my super-duper template team (well, almost). 100m well spent:-

    Foster Boruc
    Terry Toure Lescott Murner Burner
    Hazard Walcott Coutinho Mirallas Kim
    Dzeko Lukaku Soldado

I had people calling it an "excellent" team, "very good", etc. But somehow i'm not entirely satisfied with it. Reasons are:-

    1. I think a couple of favourite players will not perform as expected. Coutinho may struggle against Stoke defence, Mirallas is playing away at NOR, Walcott is flagged, Terry might only play the Hull game, Dzeko & Lukaku's gametime issues, etc. I tend to agree with Matt's (last year's Winner) strategy that we should get the team that can bring the best points in that particular GW, and look no further than 3 GWs.

    2. Nothing in the bank so it means that i can only get RVP in GW4 by playing my WC early. Not sure if i'm gonna do it again this year.

    3. Players like Nolan and Snodgrass have fixtures and a bit from with them, and can easily match/outscore the ones i pick at lesser price. These players, including the likes of Paulinho, HBA and current England hero Lambert, are pretty much undervalued imo and their price can only rise rapidly if they score good points in the first few GWs.

For that, i'm still not sold with those premium players in my team that i can get with no Bale/RVP. A better strategy would be to save a little itb so that i can get the probable performing/bandwagon players (maybe Mata, Zaba, Silva, GJ, other City strikers, Papiss) later on without taking many hits. Just my two cents.

      My qualms:

Two of your front three are rotation candidates.

Terry not likely to start both DGW fixtures, dampening his appeal in my opinion. You'll also be forced to bench him in GW3.

Lescott is only a short term option for City. Just be wary of that.

You're right in that you've got all of the basics down. But I see some tweaks that could really improve it as a longer term team.

Yep, Lukaku is a DGW punt but our hands are tight to ditch him early if he can't hold the spot. Best is to avoid any City striker atm but we would want them for the good fixtures GW2-4.

I think Terry has a big chance to play GW3 given experience, as the Bayern Clash should be top on Mour's agenda.

Lescott is not totally nailed on i know but he's a real goal threat at set pieces and until City find another CB, i think i'll stick.

Chelsea have a blank GW3. I can assure you that Terry will not play. If you meant GW2, then he's not likely to get a cleany against United, so him playing isn't a benefit.

Dzeko probably won't start all of GW2-4, lessening his appeal.

I'd get both Benteke and Lukaku for the DGW just because you could really, really regret it if you don't, that's the best points potential pairing for the DGW (at least IMO), and after that, once the dust settles, you can decide who to go to for the following gameweeks because I really don't see them as long term options, at least at the beginning, too much rotation risk for Lukaku and awful fixtures for Benteke. But by GW2 you'll have a better view of the prospects of the other strikers...

      1. Ivan > Terry. Downgrade Lescott (he will inevitably use up an early transfer otherwise)

      2. You can downgrade your Chelsea assets to help fund a move for RVP in time for GW4.

      3. Jump on board the value players now, their price will go up, especially those with form and fixtures on their side.

I have double of them in attack just because even if they fail in gw1 and/or gw2, they still have a fantastic run of 10 gameweeks to bring home the goods.
Soldado comes in for Lukaku in GW3 after Cole becomes Coleman in GW2.

Ward and Chester have 100% H/A rotation, to cover for any of my guaranteed defenders being dropped. Seems good enough to me, although expecting a cleansheet from Holloway is making me chuckle!

Of all the dgw options I've considered, and my dozens of screenshots will confirm that I've done so, Oscar was in my team for most of them but I now am quite confident in not having him. Silva and a Chelsea def; Lampard; Lukaku; all seem much better risks to take then Oscar. Just don't have any stats, evidence to justify such a precious spot for him.

Which Chelski defender have people opted with and why? ATM I've got Terry purely because of the 0.5 difference from the others. Nintendo sure if he's nailed on for both games though. Tough call.

Same for me. Luiz won't play both so if Ivan is at Rb either terry or Cahill will start both. I fancy it to be terry

      Nintendo? 🙂
I've gone for cech. It's not flashy but it will allow me to get a sunderland keeper after things become clear (I hope).

Cole, he does have an attacking threat, despite what people are saying

I bet Hazard will be the number 1 captain pick for the first gameweek.

Those you planning to WC after week 3-4 why do you think of

    1. Lescott - solid first 4 weeks
    2. Staying way from Liverpool (toure and mig) as their erly fixtures aren't great
    3. The new rb on Sunderland, seems cheap safe way to play their good early fixtures

    Foster boruc
    Lescott terry Celustka murner Chester

Defense and gk rotte well early on. Any thoughts?

      1. Lescott is alright for the short term. If you plan to use him for only the first four GWs, go for it. If you want City defense for the long haul, go for Zab.

      2. Liverpool always do well defensively, and Toure at 5.0 wreaks of value.

      3. Besides Sess two years ago, I don't think I've ever had a Sunderland player in my team. Not worth it.

        Altidore!

(Is very aware this can backfire horrifically.)

I'm not sure Lescott is nailed on. I like Hart for the first few fixtures though.
