Romelu Lukaku is rested to the bench as Fernando Torres leads the line in the first match of Chelsea’s double. Oscar proves his differential status by grabbing the opener from his role in “the holeâ€, while Roberto Soldado opens his Tottenham account with a coolly-converted spot-kick at Selhurst Park.

The Game Changer

While Chelsea eased past Hull at the Bridge, Tottenham’s narrow victory came courtesy of their summer signing from Valencia. Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolled up to Palace without last term’s talisman Gareth Bale and with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Christian Benteke, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge opening their accounts on Saturday, Roberto Soldado’s 15% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners were desperate for a response from their 9.5 investment.

The Spaniard may have looked sluggish but eventually delivered thanks to a smartly converted spot-kick. His manager duly admitted post-match that Soldado’s still lacks “sharpness”. Despite this, the numbers suggest good things to come: Soldado had more shots on target and created more goalscoring opportunities than any Spurs player.

A guaranteed starter, whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, he now sets his sights on a run of four home fixtures (SWA, NOR, WHM, HUL) and also has trips to Cardiff and Villa in the next eight Gameweeks.

For those eyeing up an exit route for Romelu Lukaku or who simply cannot stomach shelling out 14.0 for Van Persie, Soldado certainly presents an option if he can, as Villas-Boas’ suggests, sharpen up in the weeks to come. Conceivably, he could even become an armband contender over Tottenham’s favourable run.

The Underused

Oscar went into today’s clash firmly in the shadow of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in terms of FPL ownership. Typically, however, he stepped up to deliver and outscore both. Moved to the role in “the hole†behind Fernando Torres, the Brazilian – with less than 5% ownership – continued the form that saw him score in three of his last five starts in 2012/13 by poking home the opener at the Bridge.

Mourinho has already suggested he is likely to field the playmaking skills of Oscar centrally more often this season but with Mata warming the bench for the entire match, there’s every possibility the Brazilian could be ousted from the XI for Wednesday’s game with Villa, with Jose giving the Spaniard a run-out. Furthermore, the introduction of Marco Van Ginkel and subsequent shift to a 4-3-3 merely compounds the potential headache we could face this season, with Chelsea’s midfield boasting an embarrassment of riches.

The Selection Poser

Jose Mourinho’s first teamsheet of the season has already signposted the Fantasy frustration we can expect up front for Chelsea over the upcoming campaign. Romelu Lukaku was the Blues form player over the summer, racking up five goals and a pair of assist across the pre-season fixtures, and was anticipated by many to get the nod as Mourinho welcomed Hull to the Bridge. Instead, it was Fernando Torres who led the line against the Tigers, earning an assist for Lampard’s stunning dead ball strike after being fouled, before making way for the Belgian on 75 minutes.

Today’s XI will, at least, afford Lukaku’s owners a fair degree of optimism ahead of the midweek visit of Villa. Surely he will now return to the starting line-up on Wednesday against Paul Lambert’s side but with a trip to United and a blank Gameweek 3, it seems the exodus is already underway.

    Re baps for CB's v FB's..

Can't be arsed checking them all but but both Che CB's + Cole scored the highest, Ivan missed out, but the Liverpool FB's both scored more than the two CB's so I doubt it's as simple as CB v FB..

Goals, assists and cleanies are still the biggest factor and I'm not sure it's worth looking past that when selecting a team as far as bap potential goes

I've already took a 4 point hit. It was always the plan. Would it be stupid to take another? I only hit 48 points with Terry, Hazard (C) and Lukaku left to play again.

Yes it would. I have 49 with only Dzeko more than you and I'm content with it. I may make one change after all games have been played. Hits taken by others in week two will help me rise through the ranks! If you think about it, you're giving away almost 10% of the points you've earned, and almost 20% of them if you take another hit.

So, is Lukaku just going to be another Ba? Or someone worth keeping despite the rotation?

A lot got Ba last year, expecting him to start regularly ahead of Torres, but that wasn't the case.

Don't think he will be worth keeping past this GW (or the next). The problem is not only that he is young so is bound to get rotated.

The problem is actually that Mourinho will blatantly sign another striker because he has explicitly said so and thus there will be even more uncertainty. For what it's worth, I don't think it'll be Rooney but may be Eto'o instead.

would solve all our chelsea striker rotation woes! i read somewhere though that Falcao doesn't feature on the Chelsea scouts "app" that they made for Roman Abramovic, because he scores less than 90% overall, due largely to his outside the box and off the ball work...

sounds to me like the app has a bug

It's annoying me that I had him originally and swapped him for tiote at the last minute........

I think Barkley is probably better than Gibson, they have 2 pretty good fixtures he has a good chance of playing well in and therefore retaining his place, scoring points and the inevitable price hikes due to bandwagon. Also consider Fellaini may be going before the window.

I'm definitely going to A. Cole to Coleman and could use the 1.5 to upgrade Lukaku but I only really fancy Sturridge or a Man City striker who we aren't sure on yet and LIverpool have a bad GW3 which is difficult for all people with DGW'ers in their teams.

Yeah was considering the same just in a different order. 4pt hit this GW (2 of Ivan, Lukaku, Hazard out). Then a transfer GW3 and GW4 would bring in RVP.

This means my transfers are all downgrading in both price and I think quality, so leaning toward a wildcard for GW4 to get any price rises, take advantage of any new players coming in the transfer window and generally getting the ideal RVP team

I agree about the two title faves but...

Who is nailed on in Chelsea and city...? That's the issue for me. By the sounds of it nobody is safe at city and mourinho will rotate a lot too. Especially with all the midfield options available.

I can't imagine that other than RVP there's anyone you are absolutely desperate to bring in. I know its RVP but Chels and Liverpool I can't see 2 more braces, wait till GW4 in my opinion where the transfer window is shut and you have a better idea of who is worth owning for the longer haul

    Will Clyne start next week?

Wanting a mid-long term replacement for Ivan at 4.5
Like Soton fixtures. Getting Shaw or Clyne.

    Form, value raise says shaw.
Head says clyne long run is wiser.

    Votes please; Shaw or Clyne?

        Better player.
        Less rotation risk.
        Gets further forward on avg.

From the heat maps they look about the same positions. And, are the two first reasons really true?

Not sure if you can afford it but im planning similar but to Lovren instead.

Going by his previous couple of years with lyon and his internation stats he should be good for 2 goals this season, also center backs who are constantly winning headers and playing simple passes seems to benefit alot from new bonus system, i can see him ending season as one of the bargains of year.

Anyone else that watched the man city pre season games more impressed with Jovetic alongside Dzeko than Negredo Dzeko. I feel the double CF partnership doesn't offer enough creativity without bringing yaya and Fernandinho too far forwards
