Romelu Lukaku is rested to the bench as Fernando Torres leads the line in the first match of Chelsea’s double. Oscar proves his differential status by grabbing the opener from his role in “the holeâ€, while Roberto Soldado opens his Tottenham account with a coolly-converted spot-kick at Selhurst Park.

The Game Changer

While Chelsea eased past Hull at the Bridge, Tottenham’s narrow victory came courtesy of their summer signing from Valencia. Andre Villas-Boas’ side rolled up to Palace without last term’s talisman Gareth Bale and with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Christian Benteke, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge opening their accounts on Saturday, Roberto Soldado’s 15% Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners were desperate for a response from their 9.5 investment.

The Spaniard may have looked sluggish but eventually delivered thanks to a smartly converted spot-kick. His manager duly admitted post-match that Soldado’s still lacks “sharpness”. Despite this, the numbers suggest good things to come: Soldado had more shots on target and created more goalscoring opportunities than any Spurs player.

A guaranteed starter, whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, he now sets his sights on a run of four home fixtures (SWA, NOR, WHM, HUL) and also has trips to Cardiff and Villa in the next eight Gameweeks.

For those eyeing up an exit route for Romelu Lukaku or who simply cannot stomach shelling out 14.0 for Van Persie, Soldado certainly presents an option if he can, as Villas-Boas’ suggests, sharpen up in the weeks to come. Conceivably, he could even become an armband contender over Tottenham’s favourable run.

The Underused

Oscar went into today’s clash firmly in the shadow of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata in terms of FPL ownership. Typically, however, he stepped up to deliver and outscore both. Moved to the role in “the hole†behind Fernando Torres, the Brazilian – with less than 5% ownership – continued the form that saw him score in three of his last five starts in 2012/13 by poking home the opener at the Bridge.

Mourinho has already suggested he is likely to field the playmaking skills of Oscar centrally more often this season but with Mata warming the bench for the entire match, there’s every possibility the Brazilian could be ousted from the XI for Wednesday’s game with Villa, with Jose giving the Spaniard a run-out. Furthermore, the introduction of Marco Van Ginkel and subsequent shift to a 4-3-3 merely compounds the potential headache we could face this season, with Chelsea’s midfield boasting an embarrassment of riches.

The Selection Poser

Jose Mourinho’s first teamsheet of the season has already signposted the Fantasy frustration we can expect up front for Chelsea over the upcoming campaign. Romelu Lukaku was the Blues form player over the summer, racking up five goals and a pair of assist across the pre-season fixtures, and was anticipated by many to get the nod as Mourinho welcomed Hull to the Bridge. Instead, it was Fernando Torres who led the line against the Tigers, earning an assist for Lampard’s stunning dead ball strike after being fouled, before making way for the Belgian on 75 minutes.

Today’s XI will, at least, afford Lukaku’s owners a fair degree of optimism ahead of the midweek visit of Villa. Surely he will now return to the starting line-up on Wednesday against Paul Lambert’s side but with a trip to United and a blank Gameweek 3, it seems the exodus is already underway.

Which one to sell? Mert or Ivanovic?
Which one to buy, Yanga or Coleman?
Although I was planing a wc after gw3, I could get Persie with just one hit, by gw4.
So those defender transfers are not just short term. I also have Boruc, Rat, Chester

Liverpool were poor at the back at the weekend. They were at home to Stoke, were shaky at set pieces and should have conceded.

Benteke is one of the most prolific forwards in the league in 2013.

          No brainer imo.

Will have to keep an eye on City assets tomorrow evening though admittedly.

Lots of different opinion but every time he got the ball he looked to move it on quickly and took up good shooting positions. I expect him to be the best wide man at spurs this season. Sigurdsson is a decent option but has proved more of a workhorse for spurs so far.

What are people doing with Benteke for his Blank?

I think he will do really well this season and he's had a good start to boot. Are people holding through the blank or transferring him out then immediately getting him back again? Seems a waste of a transfer to do this but I have a weak bench and atm cannot field a full side for GW3.

I didn't watch all of the Spurs game but I know Sturridge was pretty poor yesterday.

I've always planned to get Ivan out first... Coleman bandwagon seems like ideal swop. I want to hold Lukaku for ManU game as I've got a feeling he'll start against them. Could be foolish though.

one year i finished 900-odd and i was in the millionth ranks until gw5 or so. The start is purely a guess, its over the season where you can make decisions based on form etc. gw1 always a guess.

Is Ivan to Coleman tonight too knee-jerky?
I always planned to do it anyway. Seems as though I should save myself 0.1?

    so my GW2 captain options

    a) Walcott - Fulham are crap at defending (but they are at home)
    b) Mirallas - very attacking but WBA look solid
    c) Sturridge (always seems to score, Villa still poor at the back)
    d) RvP - lovrs playing Chelsea, MNF rule

    RvP it is

    #HazardOUT?

First of all, my squad is:

    Cech Krul
    Coleman Toure Olsson Chester Brayford
    Hazard Walcott Coutinho Nolan Grandin
    Soldado Dzeko Lukaku

I'm one of those 37.7% owners of Eden Hazard. I'm also among those who have 3 Chelsea players in Cech, Hazard and Lukaku. My original plan was to transfer Cech out (for Mannone) this week, Lukaku out (for Bent) the week after and bench Hazard for GW3 - as Hazard is a season keeper as far as I'm concerned.

However, if Hazard draws a blank on Wednesday or doesn't play, those joining the queue to ship him out with be huge in number, I'm thinking of changing my plan to as follows.

GW2: Transfer out Hazard for Silva or Navas
Play Krul (Newcastle home) dropping Cech to the bench for the away game against United.

GW3: Transfer out Lukaku for Giroud (or another striker) and keep Cech on the bench as he doesnt play, Krul has a home fixture again.

GW4 bring Hazard back for Walcott hoping to take advantage of a significant price drop, allowing me to double up on City attack for their favourable fixtures and hopefully take advantage of a significant drop in price of Hazard (hopefully to 9.2). The problem with this is Cech and Krul both have away fixtures this week (not ideal, but manageable)

My question to you, esteemed FFS members is:

Should Hazard draw a blank on Wednesday, should the priority shift from moving other Chelski out of my team to this man? Or should we all keep to the original plan of dumping our Lukakus and Ivanovics first?

Personally I am going to keep calm and save a transfer this week. Then going into the blank I can make 2 switches or maybe even 3 especially since it will be much closer to deadline day. Mind you I have Benteke + Ivan who I don't mind playing next week.

Haz will most likely leave my team at the blank, for Nolan or Siggy if Bale goes.

hmmm, I just worry that Hazard is more open to price falls, and this could see us save .2 maybe .3 which can go towards rvp!

Anybody else thinking Spurs defence have some serious potential for clean sheets.
Walker and Rose provide great cover and clean up any balls over the top.
Shame Rose isn't a defender in the game.
