The new Bonus Points System, the Fantasy Football fortunes of Stoke’s players and the two-goal reminder of Robin Van Persie’s talent are among the key issues discussed by the community this week. Once again, we also take a look at the latest from our community leagues – if you have a community league you would like to see featured in our round up please email me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Hottest Topics

One of the most innovative changes to the new Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points System (BPS) has been the real time updates on players’ progress during games. RonH was among the first eagle eyed members of the community to spot this welcome upgrade.

Site contributor Andy’s been examining how the new BPS criteria is influencing allocation. He’s factored out obvious ways to acquire bonus, such as scoring a goal or keeping a clean sheet, to see who is benefiting. Turns out the new system heavily favours solid centrebacks as many of the community had predicted over the summer.  Goal scorers are also going to have to do a lot more than score to get maximum bonus.  Monk has also been busy looking at the new BPS, this time comparing it with the old EA PPI system.

Can lightning striker twice? Jairzinho has been stalking the internet to have a look to see how last year’s top managers in the FPL game are progressing this year. He’s also tracked down some Premier League stars’ FPL teams, most notably the Stoke players’ mini-league. Cameron Jerome is riding high in Stoke’s league while Michael Kightly is among those vying for the wooden spoon.

One of my favourite posts (particularly after ending Saturday with just 20 points),  came on Sunday morning. Corrigan’s ‘chin up, it can only get better’ post proved a real tonic for those of us staring into the abyss of a disastrous Gameweek 1.

Southampton’s capture of Italy striker Osvaldo has delighted Saints fans but does it mean rotation at the Hampshire club? Shaylan Givens started this excellent discussion about the Italian’s impact on Southampton and the rotation nightmare it may herald.

Our resident Cardiff expert Sigga-Cardiff was on hand to give the community a reality check regarding the Welsh side’s assets. Turns out Peter Whittingham, and not Kim Bo-Kyung, is the budget midfielder we should be considering.

Finally,  the RVP or not to RVP debate rumbles on. We asked those who plan to go without the Dutchman who they will be relying on over the coming weeks. SW6 is keeping tabs on Wayne Rooney as an alternative, whether he stays at Manchester United or moves to Chelsea. Jack(Off)Attack is eyeing up Wilfried Bony and Sergio Aguero among others to potentially give the RVP-based teams a run for their money.

Community Leagues

More than 100 community members are taking part in a raft of FFS UEFA  organised leagues this year, which use real life league and club names. The top scorer across all leagues was Patrick Star, whose Partick Thistle grabbed an impressive haul of 104 points. The Bundesliga saw the biggest thrashing with Reddy outscoring Lateriser12 by 39 points. The closest contest was in La Liga where TW’s Barcelona sneaked past Declan’s Getafe by just one point. FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour, handed out for flair and bravery, went to The Light Knight’s Norwich. He veered far from the template and opted for five expensive defenders, Kevin De Bruyne and also captained Frank Lampard.

Meanwhile, FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) game is continuing and saw 25 defenders finding their way into Premier League teams. The two most valuable assets this round, Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves found their way to 4Vets‘ Liverpool and COMH‘s Man United respectively. Arsenal, owned by Zep, have staged a remarkable comeback into third place as Norwich under The Shadow still lead the game with Fulham under PeppieandFelix not far behind. Notably, Hull City, jointly run by Damo and Kuqi Monster, have been boosted by a huge increase in value for Gareth Bale. Only two bidding rounds  remain. Bids on midfielders must be submitted by Saturday 2359 BST.

Patrick Star’s great score this week has also seen him top Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league. Messimerized lies in second with a very creditable score of 99.

In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues, named after a number of FPL legends, have also seen some incredible scores this week. ENR leads the All Things RVP league with a score of 101 points, the All Things Baines Leader is RDB007 with 108 points, 4Vets’ 101 points was enough to top the All Things Mata league, Crouch Potato is in front in the All Things Walcott league with 100 points and Reedy’s 102 points sees him top the All Things Michu league.

Ginkapo and Doosra’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition has also started up again this season. Back on the Horse tops the main league and those leading the seven H2H leagues are: 4Vets, Canadian Football, Back on the Horse, Crouch Potato, Reedy, Scroobius Mac and Athletico Timbo.

Finally, Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing competition has seen 84 Fantasy managers knocked out, with 609 through to Round 2. Torres Magic’s Early Bird competition has seen 463 through, with 105 eliminated. Entry for the Last Man Standing competition closes at the GW2 final update.

really thinking walcott captain now. fulham's left side looks like being briggs and taarabt (adam johnson 4 shots and 5 key passes v them). the 0-3 win last night eases any doubt of a breather i had as walcott can be benched in the return leg if needs be. his form is good enough too, just sod's law the only FPL game so far was the blank, around that he went goal & assist in the last friendly v a full strength man city, goal for england, and 2 assists last night.

strongly tempted. rvp is the proven man with the slightly tougher fixture, dzeko is the exciting man but i'm not sure my heart can take having 2 dzekos, 1 is agonising enough

It's funny, because Arsenal are also weakened on the left side (Oxlade and Kos out). If both teams target each other's weaker flanks, this game could be full of goals.

      defence looks decent (7/10)

Midfield is too ram packed and that has a really bad effect on ur forwards..
Downgrade one and get sturridge or bentekkers- depends on whether u are willing to bench him gw3
      (5/10)

      Attack (2/10)

Basically u can do a lot better than this with a gw1 wc. Remember the new bonus points- cbs getting more baps/ppi than midfielders are generally. So I wouldn't go all out in midfield

      just my opinon/breakdown

Bro I like Migs, Coleman, Oscar, Silva and Soldado...

Nolan is meh but I think at 7.0 he's a good player for any team....

I prefer Giroud over Wally and I would lay off cout until I see some returns ie. hits form...

But if you're gonna wild card, I think you should bring RVP straight in your team.

Marc Wilson is being deployed at CM, his favoured position, for Stoke now that they've signed Pieters to play LB.

Not a bad OOP prospect? Those who saw him score for ROI vs Faroe Islands will know he's not afraid to shoot.

hmm... Stoke are woeful. They could play Shawcross as a centre forward and i'd dodge him. They could be in trouble this year

It depends if he was shielding the back 4 he's probably worse off than last year - think Lee Cattermole or Scott Parker - its easier to score/assist as a full back than a full blown Defensive mid

If Lambert scores you'll probably break even or gain on the hit. Unless you're wildcarding early getting rid of Lukaku now will probably save a hit later on.

this is my team, looking to ship out lukaku and hazard, who are the best replacements?

    boruc, given

    moxey, brayford, k.toure, terry, lescott

    hazard, silva, barkley, nolan, coutinho

    rvp, lukaku, weimann

thinking lukaku > dzeko, but is that city overkill? could do lukaku > soldado, but I would have to downgrade on hazard when ideally would have liked another 'big hitter' in there.

    thoughts?

I've been pondering that question too.. Mata is exactly the type of player we're looking for but whether Chelsea will want to let go of their player of the season is another question..

I'd be more than happy with a Mata + Rooney swap

Is RVP a must to get in? What I'm thinking (when all teams have only 1 fixture in the GW) is that the your starting 11 is effectively a starting 12 because of the captain. Having RVP captain effectively makes your starting 12 as expensive as possible. I think this is a strong case for saying he is a must

Already did Ivan > Coleman and Lukaku > Soldado for a -4pt hit. Now my dilemma is I got Anelka, 0.0 left in the bank and Morrison as a 5th mid (click my name for team). GW1 = 66 points

    What should I do?

    A) Anelka > Gayle and take a -8pt hit
    B) WC with this team:
    Boruc, McGregor
    Toure, Coleman, Shaw, Whittaker, Chester
    Hazard, Silva, Nolan, Walcott, Kasami?
    RVP, Soldado, Gayle
