Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Players I want: Vidic, Vertonghen, Barkley, Ward-Prowse, Nolan, Oscar(Post Gw3), Benteke(Post Gw3).

        Too early for that, my team isn't that bad, or is it?

        Mings, 4.0
        Kolo, Shaw, Murner, Burner, Ward

          I think it's fine, forwards are brilliant and you don't *need* to make a transfer for next week so that puts you up over most people next week, certainly not a hit. Hazard to Silva is what I'd do and hope Snodgrass starts.

            I don't fancy Silva tbh, Williams and Hazard are the main issues this week, shall I get rid of one or save the FT? No money itb.

              Fair enough, I would get rid of Hazard. Nolan/Michu perhaps? I wouldn't save the FT as I think a mid will score really well and Hazard will drop. Wouldn't want him in future either with rotation and doesn't seem so threatening.

      Thats some really cheap midfield you'd have there tbh. Get Nolan with the FT and then benteke or Vert GW4. oscar isnt going to play all the time, barkley is going to fade/rotated soon, Vidic cant play that many games when the Champion league starts up so he's gonna get rested, ward prowse is bench fodder.

    How does this sound?

    This week: Hazard -> Nolan
    Next week: Anelka -> Benteke

    Hazard Out - the question is who to bring in?

    I've already got the likely lads Silva, Walcott Michu

    Nolan - like the thought of the downgrade but not sure on him as an individual. Seems to blow hot and cold. Had for a long streak of 2s last year.

    Miralles - Ended last season well but not showed anything in first couple of games

    Have I missed anyone?

    Screw it. Benteke, Hazard & Anelka > Aguero, Nolan & Campbell. 4 point hit. Aguero captain...I don't need to do Anelka > Campbell but with the price swings and the fact he'll play and Ravel, who would otherwise be in my first XI, won't, mean it ought to be worth it. I'll probably WC week 4 anyway.

    What a disaster of a few Gws. Rank now 471k. Had RVP (C) - UTTER FAIL and hazard (did fk all),

    Again gaston ramirez didnt play due to manager having some sort of grudge against him.
    Had to get rid of Ravel morrison and lost 0.1 there.
    Still got brayford....who doesnt play
    Baker injured in first game.

    had to take a -8 to filed 11 players next week..What a jowke.

        Baker was a gamble that paid off and then he got injured. But he may yet be of some use.

        Brayford was a fail and i had no idea about him. Thought he was nailed.

      Use http://www.totalfpl.com/pricechanges for the time being. Seems a lot better atm.

    Anyone understand why all the Chelsea players keep rising ahead of the blank? Seems like they're all going to be more expensive by Saturday.

    Making the Chelsea situation even more crazy... aren't they getting Willian and Eto'o?

    Any guesses as to the starting value/viability of these guys?

    You'd have to think they'll be 9.0+ at least.
