Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    How does this sound?
    This week: Hazard -> Nolan
    Next week: Anelka -> Benteke

In order for this to work though i can't afford anelka to drop more than 0.1. Unlikely? What do ye think?

I think he needs to do it now as he can't afford it in 2 moves if Lukaku drops again (which is very likely since he didn't even get on the pitch tonight).

Giroud has looked very dangerous so far and Nasty will come back into the side this week or next you'd think.

I have Wally and Zab (who doesn't) but feel that Giroud is the way forward especially if Wenger is unable to sign another striker of quality before the window closes.

Looking at a 6m type for a fair number of weeks to afford RVP. As in, about 6,7 weeks. Is Taarabt a good or bad punt?
Fixtures arent too bad. Not sure how Bent might affect Berbatov (and Taarabt indirectly) though.

Yes, but same West Ham that couldn't score against Newcastle. Stoke will be tough to break down, imagine they will park the bus for a point.

I do see the attraction but at the moment I have Noble, in the hopes of a few assists or a pen. Two West Ham mids is too much.

Would appreciate help in deciding alternatives on Hazard. Team ATM stands at:

    Boruc
    Coleman M.Turner Mbiwa Toure Ward
    Silva Coutinho Hazard Wanyama R.Morrison
    Dzeko RVP Benteke

    1 FT. 0.4 in bank.

Wanting to bring in Sturridge long term for Dzeko and oust Coutinho out but can attend to that later. Thinking Hazard > Walcott due to Arsenals fixtures. Don't think I can afford Caz. Other alternatives I believe may be Michu (thought fixtures, Europe) or a Spurs mid but none seem to be nailed on yet. Thoughts?

Nailed on, and as a 4th or 5th mid that's what you want. (depending on you set up)

Is a classy player and will quickly become a vital cog in SOT midfield. Getting rid of Morrison is very good advice as he doesnt get 90 mins.

Think Morrison is going to be nailed on at some point. Shined in preseason. Been having a sub appearance both games so far. Touted as Uniteds best ever youth talent. Must be something in it..

It would just be annoying if the week there is a late injury or someone getting rested in you midfield that Morrison doesn't get 90 mins.

But the kid does have talent so maybe holding on to him will be benefical, it just seems a risk.

Need some more views on this please.

    Team atm-

    Boruc
    Collins,Murner,Burner
    Walcott,Nolan,Coutinho,Jedinak
    Aguero,Soldado,Lambert

    4m,Chester,Hazard,Ivanovic

0.5m in the bank and 0FT.

Worth it to do Hazrd>Silva for a hit and catch the price rise and avoid playing Jedinak?

I did the same although I nearly went for Paulinho. Double spurs attack may not be the best idea at this time though

Almost certainly going to wildcard post GW3, so who would you guys bring in for just GW3 based on this team?

    Szczesny /4.0
    Toure / Zabaleta / Collins / B.Turner / Chester
    Silva / Walcott / HBA / Mirallas / Thomas
    Aguero / Sturridge / Soldado

39 is safe for starters, might drop even more after hits.

Hard to get knocked out early.

Everyone seems to be Hazard to Silva (or Nolan at a pinch).

What are your thought on my team?

    Mig

    Coleman Zab Reid

Jarvis Nolan Mirallas Barkley Silva (VC)

    Soldado Aguero (C)

    Subs: Boruc Shaw Toure Benteke

Used my FT to bring in Jarvis for snoddy.

    1.2 mil in the bank

    Your thoughts ?

Stick for now.,,, but try use yr next trsf to pull barkley or Mirallas to a chl or arse player ... Oscar looks nailed on, Santi may come good for Arse soon too, he was great last season
