Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Repost.

Need some views on this please.

    Team atm-

    Boruc
    Collins,Murner,Burner
    Walcott,Nolan,Coutinho,Jedinak
    Aguero,Soldado,Lambert

    4m,Chester,Hazard,Ivanovic

0.5m in the bank and 0FT.

Worth it to do Hazrd>Silva for a hit and catch the price rise and avoid playing Jedinak?

Hazard>Silva done for free! - £0.4 banked. My friends, I need a playing DEF for this week.

    Mignolet

    Zabaleta - Toure - BRAYFORD/RAMAGE (Terry)

Walcott - Coutinho - Mirallas - Silva (Kim)

    Soldado - Dzeko - Lambert

    Should I sell Brayford/Ramage for..

    a) Whittaker (SOUTHAMPTON)?
    B) Fonte (norwich)?
    or
    3) Terry>Coleman/Collins?

dont do whittaker, he will not last long term. fonte i think you're 0.1 short.

i would keep terry as i think cheslea will be solid under mourinho and he is mopping up the baps.

what i would do is wait for clyne to drop to 4.4 and get him in for ramage/brayford

clyne should start and is a decent long term option. he's 90% on the way to drop to 4.4 and offers the same as fonte. dunno if he will drop before this week but he could, maybe keep an eye on that. if not just get Chester from Hull.

only problem is chester is a good option long term but could get slaughtered this week by city. he will be good for home matches. plus at another -4 to get him in it wont make sense to get him this week.

          do the math...

          non-playing defender = 0

          playing defender (for a hit of -4) = Best case....6-4= 2 Worst case...2-4= -2

don't waste your transfer on a defender.....

I believe Smeichel as well who talked to Roo and said he never wanted to be moved, I think the case was just an argument between Rooney and Fergie where Rooney said transfer me if you dont wanna play me or smthn. I think the relationship with the club and moyes is still solid. And Rooney never handed in an official transfer request. Clubs usually admit it if that would be the case as well and that never happened.

          114. Very bad start. Lukaku, Coutinho, Mirallas. All huge disappointments. Should have gotten Coleman. Still, I started bad last year and finished 1524, which was pretty good for me. The main thing is that I am ahead of all of my English in-laws. I did not even know what the English Premier League was until 6 years ago when I got married.
