Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Urghhh, I've had a terrible start to the season, my overall rank is ~1.5mil... What should I do? Keep calm and hope my original selections come good or PANIC?!

    Szczesny, Harper
    Collins, Clyne, Chester, Ward, Toure
    Walcott, Coutinho, Morrison, Snodgrass, Mirallas
    RVP, Lambert, Soldado
    0.5 in the bank.

I could do something drastic like RVP & Morrison -> Sturridge & Silva...!

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Snodgrass is the weakest link in there IMO... though you have a pretty lean team (budget wise) already. I wouldn't get drastic, its fairly sound. Maybe downgrade Szczesny so you can upgrade Snodgrass. Or the 2-3 week plan could be to also milk a little cash from Soldado to chip into the Snodgrass replacement fund.

I quite like the look of Paulinho, I could just do Snodgrass -> Paulinho?
I'm pretty concerned about not having Sturridge though and I think my defence could do with at least a 1M upgrade.

...also Szcesny is awesome! 11 points and he hasn't even kept a clean sheet yet! I wouldn't really feel comfortable playing a 5.0 GK every week.

          fair enough about Sir Chesney.

I didn't know Snoddy & Paulinho were only .5 apart. That seems like a good call, but I'd be a little reluctant until we saw more than 1 game with Paulinho in that role. Sorry to offer more of a wet blanket than a solution. Nolan?

Keep calm Perchinho. If you like the look of your team, stick with it and just tweak it here and there.

If not wildcard the crap out of it over the International break. Try and build some early value over the ten-twelve days.

I like Cazorla's potential as well but looked like he was playing a little deeper against Fulham til Wilshere came on - which could bode well for the Tott game.

Could afford Welbeck to Negredo as well if that affects the view of the 2 transfers. Really not sure where i stand on the Dzeko v Negredo debate.

No point asking about Dzeko on here Shifty. There's about a 90% negativity about him on the boards.

Did Cazorla pick up any BPs this week? If not I'd think twice before going with him. Great player though and could explode with points at any time.

No BPs for Caz this week. Liked his contribution during this game and the CL game, will watch tonight's one for how he's doing. Thanks!

If you're thinking about keeping Walcott longterm, then sooner is better than later, especially in comparison to Coutinho. I own both, but Coutinho is top 3 on the chopping block (unless he can get into that central role like at the end of last game).

I can see the European midweek games taking a little out of each of Arsenal & spurs, so I don't think we'll see anything quite as high-flying as in the past. But, its still a reasonable transfer. Should pay off in 2-3 weeks if not immediately.

Crumbling under the weight of RVP so soon? He did blank and Liv look solid with the off chance he is rested for palace like last year against wigan was it? Surely if your going to cave in GW6 is the best time?

      haz > Silva

Michu is a good option but silva has the better fixtures and city are more attacking. Not sure who you would captain but i'd say Silva would be the best option unless you can somehow get aguero as more reliable option than Dzeko. Nolan might do well again at home.

I am in a spot of bother next week as i can only field 9 due to poor subs selections and had hoped a few more bandwagons would have started to see if anyone was worth bringing in for a hit but there has not been.

Would you take a hit to field a player or take no hit and take 0 pts? Brought in Silva for my FT and am doing well atm - big hitting mids have all mis fired and only 1 or 2 cheap budget ones have offered a case.

How much value is put on the wildcard - would like to save it for a future DGW or could use it now and sort out my team and have a decent GW - I feel it will be another low scoring GW though with Ars Vs Tot and Liv vs ManU probably going to be tight affairs and only ManC vs Hull worth investment.

    Benteke / Soldado / Dzeko

I have 3 trades i have in mind. which one would you do? or would you take 4 point hit for 2 of them ( i would never do -8)

Bassong - a 4.0 (chester or turner) - since i have a pretty strong defence i dont think i need bassong and his price is due to drop an afew days)

Dzeko - Sturridge . Sturridge for more consistancy, less of a risk. But should i wait one more gameweek since his playing man u and dzekos playing hull?

Mirallas or coutinho - Paulinho - i like the way paulinho plays, had plenty of shots.. and i see him gettting points pretty soon. thinking mirallas for him.

Not sure Cazorla plays given their huge output on the road. I suspect Arsenal, Spurs and Swansea all might rest some regulars as they have such big leads.

Could be wrong, but wouldn't be surprised, especially given the Gunners' injury concerns.

best city mid is silva as yaya only goes forward as a plan B and silva might end up supplying him in that case as well. Whereas silva can score and get assists.

Still think Walcott is at least equal or slightly more goal threat than Santi but thats a flip of a coin as one can have a huge haul and the other paltry in any given GW.

Nolan is very strong at home and Ben Arfa and Paulinho have had a lot of shots but not quite clicking for them yet but at some point it will.

yeah he'll drop the next time im sure. but he's a bench fodder anyway, just for this circumstances (Chester playing City) is what tempted me to take hits to replace him.

Current thoughts for a WC in the international break:

    Migs/Boruc

    Toure/Coleman/Shaw/Collins/Chester

    Silva/Lampard/Walcott/Jarvis/Paulinho

    Soldado/Sturridge/Benteke

Was tempted to do it this week but probably not wise, with the blank weeks around and the international break.

Actually I want to take 2FT into the international break bt Chester playing City & no City coverage worries me.
Could be Hazard to Silva late in the week or save.
        What abt u Acqua?

would of said bent if i knew he was nailed on and could be.

But bent would also be the best player for the next several weeks and not just a 1 gw punt.

Lambert has a decent fixture also.

    Morning all,

Who to captain this week? Silva should pull the strings against Hull but then Wally could explode against spurs, and also thinking Lambert could pop up as a good differential to get a brace against Norwich?

    Cheers
