Chelsea draw up to Old Trafford without a centre-forward but with a gameplan; they execute it perfectly. Jose Mourinho’s side defend stoutly to restrict United to scraps as Gameweek 2’s headline fixture falls flat.

The Game Changer

We were screaming out for a match winner to emerge, only to be left disappointed. Chelsea set out to stifle and frustrate United and succeeded in keeping them at arms length. Robin van Persie was starved of opportunities, Wayne Rooney, back in the United lineup, was restricted to long-range efforts. In an encounter billed as the first true heavyweight clash of the season, we were treated to a disjointed match, littered with misplaced passes and bereft of goalscoring opportunities. That won’t trouble Jose Mourinho and his determined defence.

The Underused

Rooney’s performance underlined what he brings to United. Strength, energy, craft and a goal threat – he will surely be a major player for Moyes, if, as expected he now remains at the club. Owned by under 2% of Fantasy Premier League managers, there’s no doubt that he has the potential to be a huge differential should he cement his start under Moyes and begin to show the form he demonstrated for periods of last season.

The Selection Poser

Rooney’s return to the fray will immediately pose questions over Danny Welbeck’s appeal. Having notched a brace at the Liberty Stadium, Welbeck has attracted big investment with over 90,000 having their head turned by the potential of United attacking player for 7.5. While Welbeck partnered Van Persie in a central role for much of tonight’s game, with so many options on the flanks and Shinji Kagawa to introduce, should he stay, Rooney would seem destined to tuck back inside on a permanent basis to renew his partnership with Van Persie.

The Dutchman’s owners will also be fidgeting at the prospect of Rooney’s return. Tonight’s blank would have come as a major frustration for those who handed Van Persie the armband and now, the prospect of Rooney emerging as a clear alternative in United’s attack will pose familiar questions.

A player of Rooney’s talent, offering coverage of United’s potential for goals, for 3.5 less – it’s a scenario that has to be considered by those with and without Van Persie. However, with so much to be decided in the transfer market in the next week and potential movement in and out of Old Trafford, the landscape could yet change once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I concur... I remember having him on my bench when he scored a goal, assist and 3 BAPs for Blackpool a few years back!

He's still quite chunky isn't he, doesn't look like an elite athlete?!

well, over half of his blackpool goals were from pens, you think he'll take them from walters? also, a big part of his points were bonuses even in games where he didnt score or assist, not gonna happen anymore. no thanks

Stoke are tied for 4th in Big Chances and tied for 8th in SOT. That is a top 5 offense statistically at the moment.

If they can continue this I think Adam, Walters and even Crouch become legit options.

Blackpool scored lots of goals, Stoke won't. Takes away the assist potential at least.

Below are just a few of the many decent options available in the mid to low price range for midfielders.
If the midfielders as a group are going to be heavilly squeezed for bonus points , then why not spend less on them?
An assist is now only worth five points (Note Walcott this week , old system woulld of got him a bonus) while a clean shhet is worth seven, eight or even nine points for a defender, and that is without attacking points.

Three of Soldado Benteke Giroud Sturridge Negredo Bony maybe take your pick
Five of the mids from the mid priced to low group (see below)
Coleman Toure and a couple of big hitting defenders Vertongen Evra etc

Play 433 (or 543 depending on fictures and rotate the mids depending on fixtures Cant go wrong imo

    Marallas
    Giaccherini
    Chadli
    Paulinho
    Ben Arfa
    De Bruyne
    Lallana
    Downing
    Adam

Just try making a team with no mid over 7.5 can come up with a stunning looking team. Especially as some of them will end up being the new Michus etc Of the expensiv mids only Walcott worth having imoand he can be replaced by Giroud for less money

People are going to need to adapt quickly imo , when you see 13 bonus points handed out in one match all to defenders then you know things have changed

Take someone like Vertongen who scores goals hes going to be getting 8 or 9 every time tottenham keep a clean sheet , if he scores then hes going to get 15 points , even if they concede one goal he will still be in line for a point on occasion

I think I'm still sticking with Walcott, Silva and Lampard for the moment. I think their ceilings are higher than the defenders and the likes of Coleman and Toure give me the budget to do it. I am thinking of going 4-3-3 with some combination Coleman/Toure/Zabaleta/Chelsea defender/Spurs defender/United defender at the back.

    Begovic

    Reid / Shaw / Brayford / Garrido

    Coutinho / Snodgrass / Walcott (C) / Whittingham

    Aspas / Soldado

Sub: Boruc / Ivan / Hazard / Benteke

Morning chaps, with the likely rotation in midfield at CHE, is it worth ditching Hazard this week?

I'm between these 2 routes, and struggling to decide, so any thoughts appreciated. Cheers

    A) GW3: Hazard -> Santi
    GW4: Dzeko -> Lambert

    B) GW3: Terry -> Collins, or Hazard -> Nolan/HBA
    GW4: Dzeko -> Benteke

Santi is in a team that scores goals, has great fixtures and he is pretty much as nailed on as you can be. The flip side is I prefer Benteke to Lambert, but the latter's stats have been pretty impressive despite his points to date.

    Boruc, (Davis)
    Zaba, Toure, Terry, (Chester), (Ward)
    Walcott, Silva, Hazard, Mirallas, (Morrison)
    Soldado, Sturridge, Dzeko
    Bank 0.4m

Hmmm. I've been on B for the last few days, but am now on A. Perhaps it's the gooner in me. If last season is anything to go by, getting Santi at the right time is very rewarding.

Also, Lambert has 4 plum home ties in the next 6 (starting GW4), whereas Benteke only has 1.

I wouldn't double up on Arsenal MIDs. Giroud + mid is fine, but not both MIDs.

I would do a Hazard to Nolan if you are looking to downgrade. Or be ahead of the curve and go with Snodgrass, hoping Norwich turns their attack around (he will play this week, don't worry about that).

I kind of think that double mid isn't all that different to 1 mid plus 1 fwd. Essentially you still have 2 players needing attacking returns from the same team. For this to work the team needs to be capable of scoring a lot of goals, and for all our faults at the back, I think we will be right up there in total goals scored this season.

I like Giroud though, unless we sign a new striker. Problem is that there with Soldado, Sturridge, Benteke, Lambert, Bony etc, there are already a plethora of other good options up front. Not so much in midfield as yet.

I would drop Soldado for either Sturridge or Giroud in a heartbeat. I would prefer to wait until after the TXn window closes to see if Giroud is the primary striker. If so, he is a great value as they literally have no one else worth a damn (AW doesn't seem to rate Podolski as a striker).

Interesting opinion. Solado has CL experience and is an established european striker. You fear his open play awareness? I like the value on Giroud, I just don't like him as a player, very limited IMO. Sturridge looks very nice but EL Suarez will be back.

After two horrible gameweek I needed to Wc

Rat- not playing and price drop
Coutinho- hasnt done anything currently playing on the left side although great player, 9M!
Anelka- we all know the reason
Snodgras- At some point will start making points, but only 1 point for 2 games
Mirallas- Coleman&Barkley showed more attacking potential in first two games, might be rotated with Kone

    Currently Wc team

    Mignolet- (Davis)

Collins- Coleman- Lescott/Nasty/Toure ( Ward, Turner)

    Silva- Walcott- Nolan- Paulinho (Barkley)

    Aguero- Berbatov- Soldado

    Bank: 2.3M

Going with Berbatov-> Benteke after gw3

Paulinho is bit unsure but he had lively performance against Swansea and should have scored.

          Slow down kimosabe.

We all post our thoughts. For every person thinking it's brilliant there is one thinking it's BS. You off all people should know that.

No one is saying people should just go ahead and transfer in the players a certain poster on here writes up. If anyone does then it's there problem. If the poster doesn't transfer in these players himself, then it's his choice. You can't hold that against him.

Enjoy your excellent FPL rank and stop getting personal.

          We are here to disagree.

we all know that he will keep big hitting mf players and i really find his post useless

it's only 2 gw of the season

infact i would like see him change to that strategy so i can enjoy in his rank dropping

he is ussualy spot on for him team and i like majorty of his picks and i find problem that a lot of people follow him and he will put then in trouble

He isn't saying he is going to play his WC and change his whole team and that we should all do the same.

"If the midfielders as a group are going to be heavilly squeezed for bonus points , then why not spend less on them?"

I think both Walcott and Santi will be in the top 5 (midfielders) like last season. More so if Bale goes away, Mata is rotated every now and then.
I also think Giroud will be in the top 5 (strikers).

I am going to go for it. I have analysed last year's scores. Fellaini and Mata won't get last year's score and Bale will leave perhaps. Yesterday, I saw Chelsea's match and their midfield will get more points than arsenal's. But too many will share those points.
Michu imo is another who will score big this year.

I have RVP, Soldado and Lambert up front.

Do you think Benteke is worth 2 million more than Lambert?

I am not sure. I think Benteke will outscore Lambert but not by many.

With Lambert, it gives me money to have more strength in other areas of the team.

      - Whitaker Might lose his spot with Bassong's return..
      - Lallana very good player.. but somehow Pochetino always subz him after 70min.. Don't know why..
      - Taarabat with the kinds of Ruiz Kaca n bent on the bench.. It might be risky..
      - Hernandez very good Player too.. n cheap.. But still not convinced by the swans and their europa league..
      - Ramsey ups n downs..
      - Soldado.. A must have 🙂

Anyone looking at Hazard -> Michu this week? If Santi doesn't drop then I think that'll be my transfer....

Yeah, obvious choice seems Silva but Michu could come good if the Swans get going. They haven't looked that sharp lately though.

Yep, already have Silva (and Walcott) here so looking for the next best thing.

        Santi
        Michu
        Nolan
        HBA

probably in that order for me.

Would you go Sturridge over Giroud?

Arsenal have the NLD which should be high scoring. However, the chances of them signing a striker but Giroud at risk.

Sturridge on the other hand has Man U this week but another negative being Suarez's return in GW6 (I think).

Heart is saying Giroud but guts are saying Sturridge. Whatcha reckon?

Giroud you can rely on Arsenal not to sign anyone of note!

I can agree, but it is indeed a factor with deadline coming up.

Tough one. I have Giroud myself, if I was getting one this week I think I'd go for him. NLD at home versus United? Giroud is on pens when Arteta is out as well (dunno what happens if Podolsk plays though), Sturr isn't.

Poldi will be on pens most likely.
But I think I may go Giroud, partly so I don't have to cheer for Liverpool to score 😉
        Thanks 🙂
