On a day which struggled for goals and headline makers, City’s stuttered victory against a confident Hull saw the Fantasy landscape shift and generate a series of selection headaches. Elsewhere, two largely ignored midfield assets earned precious points to boost their stock.

The Game Changer

Alvaro Negredo second goal in as many games has announced his arrival in the Premier League and accelerated doubts surrounding Edin Dzeko’s status. Introduced from the bench at half-time to replace the Bosnian, Negredo latched onto a fine delivery from Pablo Zabaleta to head City into a lead which they scarcely deserved.

With a 25-goal tally in La Liga last term, Negredo’s pedigree a proven marksman was unlikely to be kept shackled for long. He’s taken opportunities in his last two outings as a substitute and will now surely push for a start for the Gameweek 4 trip to the Britannia. While that’s good news for Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options, for Dzeko owners, today’s events were far from welcome.

The Underused

Robert Snodgrass monopolised our attention in the Norwich midfield over the pre-season, resulting in new signing, Nathan Redmond, being largely overlooked. The former Birmingham winger has, however, shone far brighter than his team-mate thus far, adding an end product to several sparkling performances to seal the points against Southampton.

Priced at just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Redmond has earned just over 1% ownership to this point. That’s surely set to change over the international break with Snodgrass owners doubtless considering the trade that would free up a precious 1.5 in funds. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in the next five, however, both Redmond and Snodgrass come with a hefty caveat attached.

While Redmond was picked out in this week’s ScoutCast by Granville’s Fantasy Island Risk pick, Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa was also singled out and was our headline act in the Differentials. Like Redmond, he duly delivered. A constant source of creativity and threat throughout, Ben Arfa’s superb strike settled the clash with Fulham at St James’ Park. Unlike Redmond, the Frenchman has a string of favourable fixtures which lend themselves to further investment and a marked increase in his modest 4.5% FPL ownership.

The Selection Poser

As mentioned, Negredo’s emergence could well sound the death knell for Edin Dzeko’s security of start. The Bosnian is currently owned by over 19% of FPL managers following his impressive opening to the campaign and kind 7.5 valuation. Those managers will now be highly concerned going into the break with Negredo surely in line to get the nod for the trip to Stoke.

Gael Clichy owners also have plenty to ponder. Whilst Zabaleta benefited from clean sheet and assist returns, the former Gunner was consigned to the bench with Aleks Kolarov given the nod on the left of the City defence. Presumably, Clichy paid the price for the defeat to Cardiff. Unless Kolarov’s start was part of a regular plan in home matches against teams likely to “park the bus”, Clichy may be another name scrapping to earn a start at the Britannia as Pellegrini puts his stamp on the City squad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How's this team with only a -4 hit for Gw4. (still would have 1.5 in bank)

    Thinking of goin 4-3-3 ...

    Migs (Davis)
Coleman - Collins - Ivanovic - Whittaker (Chester)
    Coutinho - Silva - Brady (Tonev,Colback)
    Benteke - RVP - Soldado

I am moving Dzeko and Mirallas ---> Benteke and Brady.

Move tonight because Brady rising and Dzeko falling, eh?> ?
    thanks!

Pogba was crap in his final year which was the reason he didn't get too many 1st team chances. Attitude maybe.
I don't know what happened exactly in negotiations but he was a free agent and United were in no better position to sign him up than any other club. Some players just aren't happy living in Manchester.

Fergie wanted him to stay but he was adamant he wanted to leave. Baffles me that we didn't give him any more first team opportunities. Some of his stuff tonight against lazio was different class. If he keeps on improving he will be a world beater

Making money wasn't the main reason of wildcarding, I've planed it since the beginning of the season.

      I'm currently on

      Mignolet, McGregor
      Zabaleta, Collins, Fonte, Dawson, Whittaker
Barkley, Nolan, Yaya Toure, Ben Arfa, Ward-Prowse
      RVP, Soldado, Cambell

Don't know how much of a newb I am, King Eric, last season was my first one and you've outscored me with 52 points. Not so impressive, considering that I haven't played the first (double)gameweek. Cheers.

Rooney - CPA, mci, WBA, sun, SOT

Sturridge - swa, SOT, sun, CPA, NEW

Benteke - NEW nor, MCI, hul, TOT

My money's on Sturridge. Selfish enough to be a good Fantasy pick too, something Rooney lacks.

Sturridge to have the most consistency out of those I'd say, but not necessarily the highest scores

Benteke or Rooney could grab a hat trick in one of their games, they're explosive players, whereas I can't see any Liverpool hatties coming any time soon

don't know the source, just copy from other blog: " Wayne Rooney is out of Manchester United's trip to Liverpool on Sunday. The 27-year-old could miss England's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine after having 10 stitches in a head gash suffered in training on Saturday."

I think this years bonus points system now means that rule of never taking a hit for a defender does not apply.

really is incredible how many bonus points defenders are getting

Im starting to think 433 formation is the way to go

I think vetoghen is the way to go. A centre back who will get his 5 goals and keeps clean sheets. calling it...can see those odd 15 point hauls

In my opinion, if you have 3/4+ changes that you want to make to your team at this point in the season, you should go for the wildcard rather than save it for later on.

Even if none of the transfers are urgent, why delay getting your team into the best possible shape?

    Wildcards are best used early.

Alternatively if you only need to do 3/4 then an 8 point hit could be the best way. I always think its good to save the WC for when you really need it.

I guess it depends on how many changes (no matter how small) you want to make.

In my instance there were quite a few sideways transfers I wanted to make in order to improve my team (e.g. Reid -> Collins to save 0.5).

I want to keep Dzeko. But I cant stand spending every weekend worrying whether he'll start.

    My team is:

    Boruc Krul
    Coleman Toure Wilson Collins Chester
    Walcott Coutinho Oscar Redmond Barkley
    RVP Soldado DZEKO

So i dont have the funds to upgrade him without a minor reshuffle.
I quite like having him in there as I then have 1 player from each of the top 6 - top 7 if you include Everton.

The obvious and widely suggested change is to go Dzeko > Lambert

Being a football hipster 😉 i'm looking for more of a differential though, are there any others in his price bracket? The two I can come up with are Remy (7.4) and RVW (7.0/1)

There is Bent at 6.5. But im not sure if any of these are significant upgrades on Dzeko.

Are there any other names I've potentially missed out? Or should I wait for Eto'o to be slapped onto the market at a healthy 7;)

So, assuming I'm not WCing this week, is it worth making my free transfer now before the international games just in case of injury?

Turner is about to drop tonight and Collins is rising tonight, resulting in a 0.2 change in price. I have 0.4 in the bank, so I could cover it, but i'd rather not have to.

I'm currently thinking I don't have the balls to do it early just in case I get screwed by injuries over the next fortnight.

How does everyone else feel about making transfers now?

For this scenario I wouldn't risk it. Could easily end up in you wanting to take a hit or two before the next GW, and 4 points > 0.2mill

Took a 4 point hit shipping Mirallas (to Brady) and Dzeko (to Benteke).

    GW4:

    Mignolet / Lewis
    Shaw / Toure / Coleman / Collins / Turner
    Walcott / Brady / Silva / Barkley / Kim
Benteke (vc) / Soldado / Van Persie (c)

    £1.6m in the bank.

If Fellani moves to United I am right in thinking Barkley will retain his starting position. Brady has great attacking potential and is on pens so he maybe worth keeping, even if its just for the price increases. Kim will be the first to upgrade in my midfield (Although he did look good today imo). I will keep my eye on Toure and I hope he retains his start.

    Thoughts?
