Last week we updated the Fantasy Football Scout “Hall of Fame” or “HoF”. You can access this via the HOF tab at the top of the site or via this page.

The Hall of Fame is a ranking system which we apply to everyone in our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-leagues – both the free and the members league. In a nutshell it tracks the performances of every manager over each of the seasons they have participated and awards a “HoF rating” accordingly.

The “HoF Rating” is based on points scores from previous FPL campaigns, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 80% that of the previous year. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2013/13 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2006/07. The “HoF Rating” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allocate managers a rank alongside the veterans of the FPL. It’s not a guaranteed way of identifying the best FPL managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Leagues, but we think it’s pretty good at identifying those who have displayed good consistency.

We generate two separate tables in the Hall of Fame. The “Career” table that updates every year and a “Live” table that will be updated using the latest season data, after every Gameweek. Everyone can see the “Career” table via the link but Fantasy Football Scout members also get to see a live table via the Members Area which inludes current 2013/14 points totals in the table and takes these into account when calculating the HoF rating. This can be more than a little bit helpful and reassuring in that, using the team ids in the table, you can examine the squads and transfer activity of some of the top FPL managers.

For example, Career Hall of Fame leader, Ulrik Nylund is clearly a hugely successful FPL boss, having masterminded three top 200 finishes in six seasons. Indeed, Ulrik is yet to finish outside of the top 8000 in any of those seasons – an incredible level consistency. Interestingly, however, he’s currently sitting on 179 points and is ranked just inside the top 300,000. Having said that, his wildcard is currently active, perhaps reflecting his start to the campaign.

If you want to get yourself in the Hall of Fame, simply sign up to our leagues, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League (1580-1106), or if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code is available on the dashboard of the Members Area. You will be entered and visible on the table once the next Gameweek deadline passes and FPL leagues are updated.

For more information on how the Hall of Fame works, view the movie below in which I talk through the tables with its creator, “Professor” Chris Atkinson.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Pretty slow day... Let's talk about something.. such as regrets over pre-season picks.

Are there any 50-50 picks for GW 1 team that ended up gone wrong?

    Mine were:

    Brayford over Chester
    Toure Boruc over Mignolet Fonte
    Ravel over Barkley
    Coutinho over Silva
and to some extent, Lukaku over Dzeko.

My one real regret was not going for Barkley - I chose Jedinak because he was "more nailed on", but had Barkley in my squad up until the Friday before it started. And he would have come on as sub gw1 thanks to Snod being injured.

I just checked out Hangeland and Riether in the six week projections. They have the same projected points each week apart from one where Riether is 0.1 better, yet it says they still add up the same. Is that a mistake?

You have got to have a Liverpool defender from gw 5 onwards. Go for Sakho if you want to save some cash and CBs are more favoured for baps.

Terry and Vidic are rotation threats when CL starts whereas Liverpool has no other competitions to take part in other than the Carling cup.

Not at all. Enrique is only nailed on while Cissokho is out. Agger will play every game he's available for. Skrtel completely out of favour, Ilori/Wisdom/Kelly young and will play cup games/at RB. Toure and Sakho fighting for the spot alongside Agger.

I think Terry is a terrible idea. If he stays in the starting lineup every game you look like a genius. But Cahill saw more minutes preseason and played in the Super Cup alongside Luiz. I would guess that Cahill and Terry rotate with more Cahill than Terry. No one really knows though.

Tough to say. But knowing his fitness levels and the effort he puts into training, he has shown in the past he can play 3 games in a week if need be. Maybe age has caught up with him, but still reckon he'll at least feature from the bench

I'd go Lampard. He's scored very well for his minutes every season. He looks like he'll see a lot of minutes. He now looks to be on corners and a larger percentage of direct free kicks in addition to penalties and indirect free kicks. Just in set pieces, I expect at least 5 goals and 5 assists.

Plenty of people on wildcards or trading Toure out. What's your thoughts on premium defenders? Here's a quick list of mine:

    Premium:
    Luiz (attacking threat)
    Kompany (Sureity of starts)
    Zabaletta (I own)
Ivanovic (possibly the best attacking threat/slight rotation risk)

    6mil club
    Vidic (rotation/injury risk)
Rafael (attacking threat&differential but rotation risk)
    Terry/ Cahill (big rotation risks)
Johnson (attacking threat but is he premium enough?)
    Walker (see above)

    5.5mil club
Nasty (nailed on for the next month and premium clean sheets but ni attacking threat)
Coleman (loads of attacking threat/ not at a premium club)
Sakho (will he start from the off? Os he nailed on?)
Ferdinand (first choice in a premium/no attacking threat & injury/rotation risk)
Mert\Kosc (nailed on and at a fairly premium club/ good fixtures)

    5 mil
Dawson (will he keep his place? Good option if he does £2mil cheaper than his partner at the back)

My list of every-game-caliber defenders worth owning is: Vertonghen, Evra, Vidic, Mertesacker, Johnson, Jose Enrique, Agger.

For those willing to regularly rotate a 5.0-ish defender, Coleman, Hangeland, Lovren, and Coliccini are also good options.

Premium defenders to watch: Sakho, Luiz, Rafael, Baines. Sakho and Luiz are particularly exciting prospects if they can secure their spots.

I think owning one from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal are the priorities, given upcoming fixtures. Your pick(s) from among those clubs probably depends mostly on budget.

Cheers for the moral support! Yeah I had a terrible (as in even worse) start two seasons ago and ended up around 6k - Frustrating this is that time I started with an objectively stupid team (N'Zogbia, Taraabt, Gyan (!)...) but this time I look at my team and wouldn't change a lot of it - Hopefully it's just a case of being patient and waiting for the cards to turn in my favour...

Would I be crazy not to get RVP even though I'm on a WC?

      No, not really. I'm om a w/c, and I think I'll go with 3 of Studge/Giroud/Soldado/Benteke.

Depends a lot on the rest of your team but if I were WCing I would be either getting RVP in or setting up so he's an easy future transfer. No argument that there are other strikers currently doing the business but RVP, in my view, gives you coverage of the main goalscorer AND main creative force for the potential champions. With that in mind, I think he is effectively 1.5 players and worth the extra.

Then again, if you look above you'll see that taking my advice might not be the best idea this season... 🙂

I wouldn't say crazy. There's more than one way to "skin a cat" in this game.

Having said that, looking at the fixtures, I am coming around to the fact that an RVP team will outscore an RVP-less team in the next 6-8 gameweeks. With an RVP-less team, I am having real trouble spending my budget in the middle of the park.

I lost it when he says "tata and farewell".

This fellow came accorss as a rich aristorcrat in Australia in the early 90s and was ripping off free meals for ages. He finally was caught. He died a few years back.

        RIP 🙁

Def is class. IF they aren't rotated. All in all, it's a bit too punty for me. (Nani, Barkley, JWP, even Lamps with all the Che mids)

Who would get for less of a punt? Im settled on Nani and Lamps. Just need adequate backup i know there is a possibility of rotation.

That's the thing. I don't know. That's why i kept my wc. Want to gather more info. Maybe downgrade one of the defenders and upgrade one cheap mid...

I don't like Nani or Barkley or 3 'expensive' defenders.

I'm on WC too and am setting my DF up with 2 premium (6.5+5.5) + Coleman + Collins + 4.0. Currently on Evra and Mert, but that changes pretty regularly.

I'd ditch Terry or Vidic for a 4.5 or thereabouts and upgrade Nani and/or Barkley depending on the formation you intend to play most often.
