While the club-record signing of Stephane Sessegnon made most of the West Brom headlines on deadline day, Steve Clarke’s acquisition of Morgan Amalfitano from Marseille may prove a canny piece of business. Arriving at the Hawthorns on a one-year loan deal with a view to a permanent move, the 28-year-old will bring a much-needed creativity to a Baggies side without a goal to their name in the league this season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Clarke was quick to praise the new arrival and indicated Amalfitano’s versatility could be key for the campaign ahead:

“I’m delighted to welcome Morgan to the club. He is predominantly a right-sided midfielder who can also operate in a number of other midfield and attacking positions. Morgan is a technical player with good quality on the ball. He also has fantastic work-rate and we believe his game is well suited to the Barclays Premier League. Morgan’s arrival will increase competition in midfield and add more quality and depth to the squad.”

The History

A product of the Cannes youth system, Amalfitano’s senior career kicked off back in 2003/04 with French outfit Sedan. Over the course of four seasons, he turned out 126 times and picked up a pair of assists for the strugglers before he was acquired by Ligue 1 side FC Lorient ahead of the 2008/09 campaign.

The midfielder’s first couple of years in his new surrounds harvested nine goals and eight assists over 72 top-flight appearances before Amalfitano improved markedly, with five goals and 16 assists delivered in 2010/11. Signing for Marseille under freedom of contract in July 2011, he failed to replicate his final year at Lorient and managed just two goals and seven assists from 60 league games before making his way to the midlands. Amalfitano has also turned out once for the French national side, providing an assist in a 2-1 win over Germany in February last year.

The Prospects

With the Baggies still failing to adjust to life without Romelu Lukaku, Clarke is yet to settle on a familiar XI or formation so far. The West Brom boss has already handed six midfielders and five forwards game time in the opening three fixtures and switched from a 4-4-2 formation to 4-3-3 as he attempts to find a suitable system without the big Belgian to bang in the goals.

Certainly, Sessegnon’s arrival suggests a move back to the 4-2-3-1 of last season could be on the cards, with the Benin international tucked in behind a lone forward. While such a scenario would indicate Amalfitano is more likely to be handed a berth on the Baggies right, it remains to be seen just how often he can expect starts, bearing in mind the likes of James Morrison and Graham Dorrans also offer options in his preferred position.

Coming in at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.4 in the Sky Sports game, the Frenchman is certainly cheaper than the majority of his midfield team-mates and looks one to monitor, should Clarke decide to lessen his rotation and attempt to nail down a settled side. With games against United, Arsenal and Liverpool, in addition to a trip to Stoke in the following six, though, few will be willing to take a punt on West Brom options right now, with the upcoming schedule affording Clarke’s side little opportunity to turn around their poor start to the season.

I'd be worried about Clyne ousting Chambers. I'd also consider Lamela or Michu over Silva for better goal scoring potential.

    Mignolet (Lewis)
    Evra Mertesacker Walker Chester (Coleman)
Walcott Lampard Brady (Ward Prowse, Dikgacol)
    RVP (c), Benteke (vc), Giroud

    The plan:
    - Seeing as I am on WC I may as well get in RVP for captaincy safety blanket in GW4 (CPL) and GW6 (WBA).
    - unless RVP is going NUTS I will ship him for Sturridge (c) in GW 7 (CPL) then upgrade Dikgacol to Michu/Lamela depending on who is in the best form. Brady can knock in some penalties in the meantime with any luck.

    Seem like a decent plan?

Looking for thoughts on this team..

    Goalkeepers
    Migs, 4.0 - pretty standard.

    Defence
Will always play 3 at the back
Vidic,Collins,Fonte,Wilson,M.Turner - Throughout the season Collins/Fonte and Wilson/Turner rotate. Therefore I think theres a high chance of atleast 2/4 clean sheets per week between defence and GK. About 20pts per week.

    Midfield
    3 Big Hitters
    Walcott, Lampard, Michu, Barfa, Brady

    Forward
    Soldado, Sturridge, Benteke

Barfa Hernandez is so last week. I'd rather have Michu & Brady and then upgrade Turner to Coleman or someone better. I'm biased towards 4-3-3 though. I think a 6.0 defender will more likely outscore 6.0 midfielders this year.

Opted with Giroud and Benteke mainly as it saves enough to bolster midfield and defence.

Will wait a couple of weeks for Spurs to settle and then pick Lamela or Erikson.

it looks very close between the two but I see eriksen picking up many more assists and chipping in with goals whereas lamela is pretty much all goals like a striker only he's been classed as a mid.

wouldnt be madness to get both but i think soldado and one of walker/vert is also a good pick.

Obviously i'd get lamela/eriksen over ozil if you already have walcott. because that would be too much arsenal cover if you like and throwing all your eggs into one basket - would do it for a dgw though.

Only worth it if you dont have a playing keeper at all.

hits are only worth it for getting in big hitters for a favourable run or to get out dead wood that would otherwise be costing you lots of 2-3pt returns over a long period.

Your looking for a keeper that is going to guarantee you a clean sheet in order for you to avoid a points loss. And that is obviously no one. However, if you intend on taking him out next week then you are perhaps as we'll doing it this week. The most likely negative situation is that you lose 2 points. Not really a lot to gain or lose either way IMO

I'd prefer Benteke and Erikson in the long term. Definitely Benteke for this game week. Erikson can maybe wait a week or two until things settle and we get a better picture of what is happening with spurs. I personally try to stay away from players who are rotation threats which is why I don't really fancy the city pair, although silva must be one of two city attacking players who will play most minutes this season along with yaya

Over-rated and over-priced for the past 41 league games. Aguero has way too much competition for his place and rarely explodes even when playing.

Silva was great in his initial season but now plays that annoying role for FLP purposes of being involved in all the moves leading to goals but not applying the final touches, similar to Cazorla at Arsenal.

Put simply Manchester City just have way too much competition for places and with the Champions League starting rotation will be in full effect. The prices in brackets below are the values at which I would purchase the players to have a good enough effect on games to oust the likes of Walcott, Michu, Benteke, Sturridge, Soldado. All of which have far less competition, likely to score the teams goals and ultimately all at a lower price.

      Aguero = 11.1 (9.5)
      Silva = 9.4 (8.5)
      Y Toure = 8.9 (7.5)

The strange dilemma with Snodgrass is that the harder the run of fixtures the more likely he is involved in any goals due to our reliance on scoring from set-pieces.

Of course the harder the fun of fixtures the less likely we are to score. For this reason I've selected Redmond in order to concentrate funds on bigger hitters and rotate him with Brady.

Snodgrass is very similar to Nolan at West Ham in that he will pick you up points at a steady rate but will have spells of nothing, hence reflected in their respective prices.

Advice - Hold if you have him

I'm pretty certain I'll be doing Silva > Umlaut for my free, depending on any other injury updates. Even if Silva starts, fancy Stoke to shut shop reasonably no?

Just did some digging on Umlaut, if you want to read it

Great article ENR. If could afford Silva to Ozil I would. just enough cash, though.

I got benteke in for Dzeko. Thought I would get Giroud, but changed my mind last minute.

Kim is indeed on my bench. Only option right now would be Silva>Barfa if I take the hit.

Thanks bud. Interesting move with Benteke over Giroud. It might well pay off. I'm going all out on Benteke (C) this week. I'm guessing that you might be looking at it too?

Not really the brightest of fixture for Barfa vs a decent Villa side. Newcastle seem to be struggling on the attack, however he seems their only spark. Not good fixtures after Hull too.

For a free, it could be worth it.
For a hit, it's tricky. Would take the risk if you think he's a good player to have for the run-in. If not. just stick and hope Kim does something

Hope there will be some more Silva news tomorrow.

You reckon I go ahead with Silva > Ozil?

Yeah, I am thinking Tekkers for the armband. Soldado backup. Might go with Soldado, not sure.

With Barfa its more about form. Peno taking midprice midfielder who is the only offensive spark in the team. Seems like any scoring goes through him, and consider the lack of midfield prospects, his star shines brighter.

Yeah, I think I'd do that if I didn't have more pressing issues. You're gonna own this week: you'll more htan make up for the last week. Its a great team.

With the core of our team so similar, there's still only so much we can differ by. The first 3 weeks have showed that. 😆

Pretty concerned about my defence if I were honest. Especially when everyone seems to have 2 every-weekers at the back atleast.

Lamela is wait and see, in my opinion. Not sold yet.

Our team are similar, but I think Snoddy and Ozil will be much better than my Mirallas/Silva or Mirallas/Barf combo.

You conveniently forget you have Zaba over Collins!

Barf could benefit from a better striker in Remy too. Looking good actually.

Ooh just saw if I do Silva > barf, i could get RVP for any of the 3 strikers (for a hit)

O yeah, Zabs over collins. That does help a bit. Heehee.

Whoa......you got lotsa cash if you can pull that off! Could be a good idea.

I am still in the anti-RVP camp, though. Solidly, too.

Same, the issue is which striker to get rid. None of them warrant a hit isn't it?

I'm anti-RVP......so I say no, of course! I think your team is good. Defenders, as you said, is the one glaring place for improvement, but youre fine beyond that.

Stick with the wonder force. If Benteke scores a brace are you really gonna care if RVP does too?

True that. Fairly confident about K-Dawg

Still go ahead with Özil you reckon?

Fascinating to see when Sakho comes into the picture. Pool defender at 5.5 should be a good option with their fix

I think you like Sakho too much. toure will take starts off him, I guarantee it. Maybe hes worth it anyway, but 5.5 is a decent deal, not a great one. Equal to, say, Mertsesaker, in my opinion.

                        I see it this way

                        Kim (+4)

                        or

                        Barfs

What if silva plays though? He could do well if he plays. that makes it Silva +4 vs. barf.

The 2 million extra is a good point, though. Would allow Lamps>Ozil (sadly not mirallas, though)

You think its worth risking if silva is in bad shape?

Oh definitely don't do it if Silva is declared fit tomorrow. If he's any doubt, then it should be worth it for the run-in (even if it doesn't breakeven immediately, it should in the next 2-3)

I'll be avoiding any transfer if Silva is fit too.

Try booking.com or TripAdvisor. There are reviews and pictures from reviewers for choosing your place. Good way.. Have fun. 🙂

he'll only manage to get one session of training with the lads before the game tomorrow, AVB said it's not impossible for him to start but my personal opinion, he wont start, but get a gametime from the bench.

@ eric... my personal advice would be to switch evra for rio, save the one mill and improve your midfield...otherwise your team is solid...now help me with mine pls !!

        Boruc (given)
rio, chester, collins ( turner) (whittaker)
Ozil, Coutinho, Lamps, Barkley ( ward Prowsie )
        RVP, Soldado, Giroud

        Question :
        1) Should i get dawson for collins ?
        2) Lamps or erikson ?
